Do I need an autoresponder?

I signed up for a autoresponder (aweber) when I joined EN. Quickly quit EN and now I am wondering if I even need a autoresponder? I only get a few sign ups a week.

Seems like I could just capture emails then add them to contacts on hotmail and email them for free through the hotmail account.

I can see how it could be nice to have the autoresponder chain but I could use saving the 19 a month right now.

When I first started out I had an autoresponder, but I didn't really know what I was doing so I was wasting money every month and I had just a few subscribers that I didn't even mail. If your still wondering what your gonna do online I would just let it go or you can put your account on hold for like $5 a month

It seems like your not really interest in email marketing at the moment.

I'm interested in email marketing I just get so few captures and I don't have any money for solos or anything.

I just signed up for an mlm so I plan on emailing leads with that offer.

This old man came into my bookstore and asked me for my email address. Next thing I know he is sending like 5 joke emails a day. I asked him what autoresponder he was using. He said he just adds people to his contacts and when he wants to send an email he clicks on the contacts he wants to send to.

Like I say I could use the extra 19 a month if this is an okay way to do business. I don't know if I am missing some benefit to autoresponders other then the follow up email chain?

If your struggling with cash right now and you don't have many leads it is probably a good Idea to just go the route the old man goes and when you get more leads and some extra cash you can sign up with an autoresponder again.

You don't really need a autoresponder until people start regularly joining your mailing list.

Eventually you'll want an autoresponder as you begin growing your business. For now, it seems in your current position you could be putting the $20 a month towards something more beneficial.

What I did to make some quick money when I first started out online was offering services. Find something you're good at that you feel people will need (pay for) and leverage it. Eventually you'll be able to afford things that will help better your business (like solo ads in your case).

    Good luck!

It's definitely worth having an autoresponder and starting a list when you can. If you don't have the funds for it, you can go a without it.

However, I'd say you should set a goal to earn enough funds that can pay for the autoresponder in the future.

The amount of opportunity to get leads, and converts makes it a very useful tool.

If you have a good website, you sure should keep the autoresponder, if you can, as you may have heard it said, that the money is in the list, and it's true, if set up properly. For more info. on this, go to: http:.//home.commissionfaststart.com

Always worth having an autoresponder I think, why don't you use a free one for the time being until it is worth spending the money. Mailchimp is free?

Auto responder will work when you are not there to email and it saves time.
Provided you have a good product and well written emails to make trust in the people that have signed up for you.
But if you think that it is of no use, just quit it like EN!

You can install your own autoresponder on your server and not pay any monthly fees. With everything, subscribe/unsubscribe, etc. Won't have such good stats, but thats something you don't really need, the only thing you need to know how much $ each mailing brings you.

An autoresponder is highly recommended if you're
planning for long term growth in your business.

I do not suggest doing it the manual way (as you
mentioned) via Hotmail. This can get very time
consuming and soon you'll realize that you're
spending more time on managing your list than
    actually building it.

Not to mention if you attempt to send mass
email using BC or CC than it will raise some
eyebrows with your email service. It will
    appear to be spam.

It will be in your best interest that you
    squeeze that autoresponder cost into
    your monthly budget.

Serious internet marketers rely on these.

Over time (as your prospect list grows)
you'll realize just how vital having an
    autoresponder is.

Well you don't need anything REALLY right?

The question is, what are your goals?

Want to build a following? Make sales? Generate goodwill with your prospects?

In that case I'd say an autoresponder is a great asset.

If you're unable to spring for Aweber, why not try Mailchimp? They're free for small lists under 2.5k (I believe 2.5k).

    Stay cool

You're on dodgy ground doing this.

If someone complains that you've emailed them and you can't prove that they agreed to be a part of your mailing you could be done for spamming and your business could be over before it's even begun.

If you're going to build a business you need to build so mailing list. In most cases you only need to make one sale a month from your list to pay for the cost of the service.

I'd keep it if I was you and make building your list a priority for the new year.

I think its important to have an autoresponer if you are trying to build a serious business. Try using one of the free services for now. Mailchimp is a good one. I use them for one of my services since the list is somewhat small. As your list grows you can either upgrade or go back to using a more robust service such as aweber.

When I started my online marketing I didn't know that something called an autoresponder existed, much less know how much this tool is worth for any marketer in IM or any other niche,,,

I bought a $200 IM course that had a section on autoresponders (AR), but I still didn't get it,,,

Years passed and I was losing thousands of dollars of income because I wasn't using an AR, I was doing promotions for affiliate programs, and without knowing it I was building those affiliate programs owners their very valuable mailing lists,,,

Now I know better, I have my own AR, and now I am building my own lists,,,

It is unprofessional and not business like to use e-mail accounts for collecting subscribers for a business venture, many prospects won't take you seriously and won't buy from you,,,

You can use a free AR service, ListWire is one of the best and have been around for many years, but free AR's have disadvantages,,,

I have used a few free AR services that don't exist at present, they come and go,,,

Uploading your AR software to your hosting account is taking risks, unless you know what you are doing, specially, SPAM issues and delivirility issues, you will pay one time, but you could pay a high price on results,,,

I had once used my own uploaded AR, one time $19, but lost it in a website hack,,,

The best AR's are paid ones and web hosted, that means that you don't have to upload them to your hosting provider, they handle any SPAM issues and deliviribility issues, and you can count on their handy support,,,

      Some of these are:

MailChimp, but I understand that they don't accept affiliate marketing programs, I have never used it,,,,

Aweber is the Cadillac of AR's, but they charge based on the quantity of subscribers in your lists, of course, if you know how to profitably market your lists, this won't be a problem, because you will be recovering your AR monthly fee with the sales you get from your list, but you must make sure that you have a "buyers" list,,,

There are several other autoresponders, some of them integrated with other affiliate programs, that is, that you receive an AR when you join this kind of affiliate program, I understand that GVO is one of these, but you are restrain to whatever AR they are using,,,

Some of these AR's have their own affiliate programs where you receive a commission if a referral joins through your link, most of these commissions are one time,,,

Most new online marketers get stuck and/or paralized when attempting to setup their first AR mail campaign, yes, at first, the process seems intimidating,,,

All these AR's have tutorials, some with step-by-step videos, technical support, and forums: where members help each other with setup and other issues,,,

      I use TrafficWave, why?:

Because: they are web based, have been around for many years, they are of the most inexpensive priced: $18.95/month, always the same price with unlimited subscribers and unlimited mail campaigns, they are called autoresponders, thus unlimited autoresponders,

They have a 30 day free trail, no credit card needed, if you decide not to continue, do nothing,,,

They have an affiliate program where you get $6.95 for your first three referrals, that means that with three referrals yours is paid for, if your referrals refer other members, you receive a commission for those, too, that is on a monthly basis,,,,

They have video tutorials and a very responsive support team,,,

There are two FREE reports-tutorials available, not endorsed by TW, that use TW as the demo AR, but the basics in them can be applied to any other AR...

One of the FREE reports was written by Carol Walzack on how AR's function and on how to setup TW AR's,,,

I wrote the other one: it is a very detailed FREE report on how to setup a complete ad campaign from scratch to promoting and building your own list process,,,

What I did was to break down a ten step setup process into over 200 tiny steps, bit by bit. Everything you need to start free.

I consider that this is the most complete and detailed AR setup tutorial available online,,,

This free tutorial is available to any marketer interested, you don't have to join through my link and it will be valuable to you, even if you are already subscribed to TW AR...

If you don't have cash to pay for your AR, with the 30 day trail, you have time to promote whatever offer you have and earn enough to pay the next month and from there, the sky is your limit,,,

You have to promote, promote, promote, and after you have finished promoting, start all over again,,,

There are many places that you can promote for free, considering that you don't have to pay for the time you spend promoting, with free things what you are doing is exchanging your time for money,,,

Like you can intensively and extensively use TE's (traffic exchanges), classified ads, forums (following the rules, of course), social media (Ex: FaceBook), there are some paid advertising services that will give you free or low price trails, some will give you a few days, or few ads to place opportunities,,,

For example, in my country there is a mayor printed and online newspaper that will give you unlimited advertising for up to three ads for free in their online classifieds, I have been receiving good leads from them,,,

      Antonios

Mormo, I guess that you quit EN (Empower Network) because of your monthly investments: $25 (sponsor) + 19.95 (admin) + 19 (Aweber) = $63.95 per month...

But if you got three active signups this monthly investment would be paid for ($75) with a profit for you: $75 - 63.95 = $11.05.

Blogging is a business structure that takes time to build, as in reality, any other business. But if you were getting a "few" leads per week I understand that you were doing well. Of course, you could improve that with more intensive promoting. If using free advertising media this would require more extensive use of the diversity of free media available.

What is "few" for you? How many suscribers, in numbers, were you getting?

An AR is an intensively valuable tool for all online and offline marketers, that is the real money maker.

You must decide in the beginning of your list building venture which AR you are going to use, because most AR's don't accept importing subscribers from other AR's, because of SPAM issues, you would have to transfer them one by one, or ask your subscribers to subscribe to your new AR. If you have built a good "relationship" with them, most will transfer, others won't and those you will lose forever.

No, you do not need an autoreponder to succeed online! All the autoreponder does is lets you stay in contact with people who come to your site and opt in for free information. The purpose of this is to build your own traffic supply over time. Your best bet is to learn how to get traffic first. You can do this a number of ways but just beware and do not buy traffic from places. You have no controll. You can use ppc with networks like facebook, google, bing. If funds are tight then I would focus on learning how to get people to my website first. once you do that you can have a couple of direct links on your page to make some straight commissions. Then Id would strongly suggest getting a opt in form on your site and start collecting emails. You need to understand as well that the more steps you give your views the less lower your numbers can get. Learn to get traffic first. Then learn to build a converting squeeze page that converts at a decent rate. no lower than 30% Aim for 60%. Once you learn to get the leads then the third step would be to optimize your funnel to give you front end sales. After you can get some sales with your front end offer then its time to optimize your email series to build trust and make more leads. Once you get to this level you can segment your autoreponder to send the people who purchase your front end offer to one part of your list with a email series building more trust and a higher ticket item where the people who don't purchase your front end offer you can work on them building trust and converting them into a sale lead. It all takes time and there is no fast way or magic solution to do this. Anybody who says so just wants to sell you their product and really don't care about you. Stay away. You'll do it!

It depends on what niche you are in.
Autoresponders work better for some than others.
I stopped using one a while back for one niche and it made no difference to sales.
I sell on the front end now.
It's not worth keeping names in the autoresponder if few are opening or reading mails.

Mailchimp offers the first 500 subscribers free. It might be a good place to start.

I agree that the price of autoresponders can be daunting but they really do work for you. I have had people in my system consider my class for 6 years and THEN buy just because they got consistent email communication from me. I highly recommend you have an autoresponder system and use it!

Yes using an AR is better and more professional than using services like Mail.Yahoo.com or Gmail.com

Use a FREE AR like Send Better Email | MailChimp they are very flexible PLUS you can upload your current list.

With Growing Business | MailChimp "pay as you go" service you can chose to pay per email you send (instead of paying Monthly). Simply put $9 = 300 emails, $30 = 1,000 emails, or $60 = 2,000 emails in your account and that could last you 3, 6 or 12 months if you send only a few AR emails each month to start off.

You can easily upgrade your account when you are ready to do so.

I tried ListWire.com but it seemed like they were sending emails to my list. So I left them.

I forgot why I left TrafficWave.net so many years ago.

But keep building your list as best you can.

    Best of luck to you,

Like a few others said, the value of a professional Auto-Responder is it provides some legal protection by opting in and opting out subscribers, protecting you from SPAM accusations and keeping you compliant with the 2003 law. The FCC can totally shut down your business and ruin your life.

Have you tried List-Wire? It's a free Auto-Responder I've seen people use to work their way up.

Another person pointed out you can join something like Traffic Wave (or STIFORP, or Pure Leverage) which gives you kind of an all in one package. With something like this you can generate enough recurring income with a few people in your downline to offset your own monthly cost.

    Hi Mormo

As others have stated an autoresponder is a tool that many of us that market online cherish

My autoresponder assists me with building relationships online in a professional and automated way.

With that being said, are you promoting anything else since you canceled EN? (which in my opinion was a good decision)

If you are no longer interested in conducting business online you may not need one.

If you are then it is in your best interest to have one.

I don't have a website for some of the marketing services I provide, but you best believe I have my customers and potential customers for that service on my email list

There are soooo many options that provide the autoresponder services and I've tried alot of them.

Aweber and Get Response were hacked a several months ago and I have used them for years.

I decided to try a self hosted option recently and it is working well. After testing and comparing to Aweber I'm noticing my self hosted autoresponder is providing better results and it is a lot more affordable than the aforementioned.

    Have a good one!

Hey, if money is an issue, use list wire but read the disclosure first. After reading the disclosure, if it looks solid to you, sign up. I have used it for months and I love it.

      mormo;

if you want to succeed online you must have an autoresponder, AR, it's the life of online, and offline, too, marketing.

even if you are getting one signup per month, its still priceless.

Aweber is the rolls royce of AR's.

if price is your concern, try a free one, like listwire, although it has its disadvantages, i used it for some years. i think that is the only free AR that has survived many years of existence.

Self-hosted ones have advantages and disadvantages, too. Specially, newbies or non-technical marketers. Spam issues could be a real headache, and other technicalities.
you pay for these on a one time payment. i once used one, but spent too much time working the technical stuff, and this is not my strong side.

TrafficWave is low cost, powerful alternative.

Getresponse and GVO could be other solutions.

There are programs, affiliate, that come with an AR integrated, but you depend on that programs system.

i have written a very detailed free report on how to setup TW, including landing page, capture page, thank you page, free giveaway, download page, e-mail series, congratulation page, pc setup section, bookmarking arrangement section, having a completely organized system for your success.

The basic process can be applied to any AR.

There's even a section on transfering one e-mail series from one account to another account.

Send me a pm if you are interested,

you can give it to your referrals of any other program.

      your friend,
