I am not an article writer. I have tried but I despise it, I am not too fond of ezine either.

My approach is now to create a good content rich site and focus on seo (keywords, backlinks, etc.).

Is this a valid approach or should I stick with the articles?

It is a valid approach, but a lot of people find it hard to stick with it due to the fact that you do not see the results as quickly.
A better approach may be to consider doing a little bit of both until your pages begin to show an ability to climb steadily.
Then you can cut out the article marketing.
    Just one mans opinion.

This is what I am going to start trying.

Articles are just another way to get links spread around. They're not the only way, so yes you can do things without them JK already mentioned software and that's an excellent way to get traffic and links.

If your content is good enough and you get the ball started with linking, it will grow. There are some cases where it can happen quickly (aka related to hot trends, new products, useful software, popular themes, funny or scandalous, etc) but more often than not it takes focused time and effort to take on a life of it's own.

  • Write a business plan. Article submission is only one means of generating a BUZZ for your business. It's an effective one that works... at least for now, so you are doing yourself a disservice by not leveraging it. But you have to pick your core competencies and work on those. Outsource the rest or just skip it and hope for the best. If you make a cake and leave out the sugar... well you don't really have a cake, but you could eat it I suppose.

There are always going to be "Necessary Evils" in all jobs. It just depends on how you define success and if you are happy with the results you can drive by other means.

Got to agree on this one. The progress might be slow at first but it'll surely work.

Article marketing is not the only option available out there. If you feel this is not your cup of tea, then just work on different linkbuilding and promotion techniques. I happen to share your article marketing antipathy, and I think that, in general, doing things that you don't like are not worth it and won't bring in any tangible results, apart from outright frustration.

If you find that article writing is just not your niche area, then there are plenty of options out there for you to explore. There isn't just one way to do something. I know I can't stand writing articles either!

Go with creating a marketing site if you feel it's right for you!

    Good luck!

Providing good contents is a good approach. Adding keyword as tags is an addon to see from search engines eyes. By providing good contents to the readers will give you loyal visitors.

Article marketing is just one method of promotion. But I was wondering - if you hate writing articles, how do you plan to put good content on your site. Wouldn't that necessitate writing articles?

In any event, you don't have to write the articles for your site or for article marketing - you can outsource them and spend your time on other backlink getting methods.

I plan to write the content for the site myself, I do not enjoy it but I will do it if it is for my own site. I guess if the product appears to be converting I may outsource articles also as a form of advertising and building links

Have you considered paying for someone to create some backlinks for you?

There's people in the WSO forum that will take care of your needs for a reasonable price.

Article marketing is a pain in the a**! It's the first item on my list for outsourcing.

    Cheers!

Funny thing you can actually do
SEO using the articles, since article
    sites rank very well.
