Is your WP blog getting hammered by blog comment spam?

If you are relying on Akismet to filter your blog comment spam, it looks like something BIG has gone wrong with that plugin. My WP blog is getting FLOODED by comment spam. I was able to fix the problem by using a hash based spam filtering system. This system blocks remote posting methods used by spammers. Just a quick heads up. You don't want to log in to your blog and have to wade through thousands of spam comments. You might also want to try a Captcha based commenting system

Yes it is, and I don't use Akismet. I use Antispam Bee and WP Spam Blacklister, which seems to work fairly efficiently, but it's unbelievable the amount of comment spam I'm getting.

I use Akismet but I haven't had a problem so far.

I use AVH First Defense Against Spam Plugin along with Akismet and Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin. Combined between all those, I rarely get any spam at all.

I was flooded by spam about a month ago. Today, no problems. Not sure if it had to do with me living in India or not, because even before I came home to NJ the problem lessened. I would say if you are hammered by spam it likely means you are seeing a massive surge in traffic. Not a bad thing

It's more safe to use captcha method or approve the comments manually.
You can also use third party comment system.

I use Akismet and manually approve.

    Spammers HATE me.

I've never let one slip through.

    I'm the best spam-goalie eva.

PS: And I have not noticed any irregularities as of late.

I use Akismet as well as captcha for filling up any form on my website.
    That well serves the purpose.
Before applying captcha I was getting around 25-30 spam comments daily on my website that looked like real ones but are done by bulk commenting softwares and after appying captcha filtering now I get at the most get 4-5 spam comments a week.
That is awesome result for me.
