Now Here's A Unique Niche

In browsing my local Craigslist today I ran across perhaps the most unique niche market I have ever seen.

Going to Prison??

This guy was "literally" thinking outside the box

Talk about a starving market, these folks would probably give anything to have an edge while doing their time.

On the downside, it would be very hard to trust a lot of your clients.

Oh Lord, that's just hilarious. Do you think there's potential to the niche at the moment. I might consider switching to this if mine goes dead. I would do a decent article campaign on making trazors.

looked into that market a year ago and found a warrior who had been making good money in that niche.

finding customers would be kind of hard and getting in their mind for the sales copy would be pretty depressing.

even if the product works for the customer... the customer is still inevitably screwed (no pun intended)

Great niche , however all your customers are only there for the short term unless that have prison internet. On the plus side when they get out you may be up for some return customers.

Actually i saw a fairly nifty idea about jails/prisons. My buddy happened to do something minor and had to spend 30 days in the county. I was going to send him money to put on his books for commisary. They actually had an online deal set up that let you order from a whole list of stuff, soap, shampoos, snacks, foods..etc. and the service would deliver it.

    pretty good idea imho

This one made me think of the time my sister told me she was losing her lodger as he'd given notice because he was due up in court and knew he'd be going to prison. I asked if he was expecting to go down for long, and she said 'I dunno, but he gave me his new ten-year diary'

She then went on to say that he could probably use a file with one of my cakes hidden inside. Short of 'Creative Mailbag Stitching 101', it would seem that the best way I could monetize the 'Going to Prison?' niche would be to sell my culinary techniques. At last, an advantage to only being able to produce a sponge that could double as an angle-grinder

heck with the new budget amendments passed in Wisconsin today more people are now getting out of prison then going in!

Seriously though i saw a guy on fox news one night that runs a consulting business for guys going to prison for white collar crimes.

So... With all of that being said, do you suppose the posting got flagged because of content or because breaking the Craigslist TOS?

    Hmmm,

I didn't know it was flagged, CL is a funky place, you never know what will be gone there.

Here's one thought though, think about the guy offering the counseling, you think it could have been a front for fencing stolen merchandise?

credit card fraud would have to be a risk in this niche, and thats why many of them are in prison.

Apparently the guys at Craigslist didn't like the idea.

I just clicked the link and I got to a page with the following text:

"This post has been flagged for removal."

Looks like the guy relisted the ad here:

    Going to Prison?

I'm not sure why it was removed, sounds to me like he's offering a legitimate service to people in a very desperate situation.

Funny, but it sounds like a legitimate market. Especially for white-collar convicts who might be very nervous about their first time going into "the joint" or whatever... I would definitely give the niche a shot if I had the know-how and time.

Also makes me think... what other scary, harrowing, life-changing experiences do people go through that they might need a guide like this? Being drafted? Going for your first prostate exam? Going to college? Missionary work? Hm.
