A Great Launch - And I'm The Only One Who Knows

I received an email this morning from Brad Callen. Here is an excerpt:

As I mentioned before, Frank's relaunching Mass Control 2.0 in June
and will have a limited number available. He gave me a special
"headstart link" to get you, and only you, access early.
As he said, I'm the only one who knows about it. Shucks! I must be doing something right!

Is anyone else as privileged as I am?

Ivan

This brings up something I wanted to pick peoples brains about. The advertising industry is pretty tight on false advertising/claims these days. However, on the face of it at least, marketers seem to be able to get away with it alot..?

(ie, "it will NEVER be available again" or "this sale WILL end on x day" or "you are the only person seeing this offer")

Now I dont mean to be pedantic but isnt it an interesting debate to discuss where the lines of hype, grabbing the interest of your customers vs false advertising actually lie?

(And yes I got it too and I have nothing against Brad Callen!)

      Hi Josh!

I just finished Tweeting my friends and then purchased your TwitterFuel at 50% off. It looks like a great product and I look forward to reaping the benefits. Take care and I will let you know the results in a couple of weeks.

My favorites are the sneaky ones.. Like when someone adds a little html code that takes your IP address inserts your physical location in a paragraph to play on emotions and make you feel like you can relate to them in some way or another.

"I'm Billy McFalsename and I live in (Your City Name goes here) and I got rich!"
--The Website(s) and popups that are notorious for that particular sneaky trick are all scams made by the same person, btw.

I laughed when I read a comment by someone who said they live in a small backwater town of less than 30 people and saw his town name displayed on the website and knew that the "person" the webmaster was claiming to be obviously didn't live there.

In small towns like that, everybody knows everybody. In huge densely populated cities, a person who is reading through a site like that wouldn't think nothing of it.

I feel so dirty for falling for his lack of respect for me, and my feelings

Well the fear of loss and scarcity are great motivators. Us marketers just need to be careful to be truthful and if we say only x amount of copies will be sold at a certain price we should honor our word.
