Transfering websites between host with whm issue.

Guys,

I have migrated some websites with cpanel from host host A to host B , but i have noticed the size of the usage on disk after copy to host B are much smaller then host A.

Is this normal due to some compression feature or something went wrong during the transfer?

Thanks,
Morg

It depends - are you a reseller or do you have your own server?

Assuming you went from reseller to reseller, hosts can choose whether to display disk space as actual or partitioned, so while one host might display the amount of space you purchased as the disk size another might display the actual disk size for all the accounts on the server.

The only other thing I can think of would be related to temporary files and logs - I doubt they would make a more significant difference than a few megabytes though.

Well its reseller to reseller, the hosting copied it but when i have saw the disk usage for each cpanel there is a difference up to 2x the source size.

I think before the migration there is a compression should be that i think.

That's a pretty large difference for compression. I would definitely check your websites just in case. Hopefully it was just a simple 'accounting' error.

The last thing I can think of is it having to do with "reserved" space - did the accounts have the same space quota in your old WHM as the new? Sometimes if you don't set up 'reseller packages' and have custom appropriations for disk size on each domain then during the transfer it views the old account as it's reserved size.

Some logs, emails or backups may have not transferred.
Anything custom from Host A may not be on Host B. cPanel is always the same.

^This. We get these questions a lot during our migrations & most of the time it's logs & backups.
