[possibly a dumb question but...] Is it possible (easy) to make a membership site that does this?...

Is it possible (easy) to make a *paid* membership site that only allows them to enter the site a limited *number of times*?

So, their unique password (that they have paid for) only allows them to sign in a limited (+ pre-determined) number of times.

Possible? Easy?

Please advise.

    Well it's possible yes.

    Digital Access Pass has a credits feature where they get a certain amount of credits and once used they have no more access. Or you can do memberships based on timeframes.

      I'll check out that link.

      In this case, the time frame way won't help me. The site I envision will be one people will be tempted to (ahem) share access to. I figure, if they are only allowed to access it a limited # of times, they will see that sharing their password will = equal giving away part of their *actual $$ they paid in*. It will make sharing = actual *giving* -- and make it much less likely! So the token model woks better in this case.

        That might not be enough of a disincentive... What's preventing them from making illegal mirrors of your site once they get in and right before they chargeback? If this sounds ludicrous just check out some adult webmaster forums / dating webmaster forums to see what I'm talking about. There's a reason why this token-based system isn't used on a wide basis...

    So you're making it annoying for everyone to prevent a little sharing.

    Some membership scripts (such as s2member) can limit the number of IP addresses. This could be an easier solution.

    Some cause-oriented hackers recently hacked one of my websites. So I researched what they're about and then donated a large sum of money to the entity they hate the most.

    The next time they hack one of my websites I'm going to donate DOUBLE.

    If the sharing aspect is the only reason you want to set things up this way then my recommendation would be to forget it. Those who want to share your stuff will do so either way. Don't focus your business on the very small few people who will always try and take you for a free ride. Instead focus on building your business around your paying customers. You'll make a lot more money that way.
