Differentiating yourself - Amazon Affiliate Site

I was listening to a talk with Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose, where Tim briefly brought up a site called Everyday Carry. Upon investigation, I was delighted to see that the owner took a different approach to the Amazon affiliate sites.

It's basically an affiliate site which lists the items in certain people's pockets, then photographs it. Simple? Yes. But truly refreshing

Far too many warriors, who go down the amazon affiliate site path, redo the exact same thing which has been done a million times before. Not saying that's bad. But I'm just making sure everyone is aware that there is different, OUT OF THE BOX ideas that set you apart from your competition.

Note: I have absolutely no affiliate with this site; it just got my attention and thought you warriors may find it helpful.

thanks for sharing this - a very clever idea and is definitely an inspiration in finding a different angle in presenting affiliate links. (to the traditional way of just slapping up a review site) . Its also I'm amazed how some people carry so much stuff around with them!

I agree, people are too willing to accept cookie cutter work as a valid business model. Sure it helps to see someone who is doing well and copy what they're doing, but that doesn't mean to copy their website. It means to copy the reasons they do what they do.

In your example we could say "oh well that makes sense I'm gonna go take pictures of stuff in my house and then tada I'll be good" but looking deeper you can see why that site is successful - it's partly the personal touch, partly the desire to be as cool as other people, partly the feeling of security, and partly the completely non-aggressive link pushing. Take those little bits of analysis, apply them to what you are already doing, and then figure out which little bits help you the most.

Success is an aggregate of failures and the greater understanding you get when you can identify the good and bad of your attempts.
