Hide whois in Godaddy

Normally it costs 9.99$/year for 1 domain to hide whois in Godaddy. I think i've heard that on other registrants there is a limit for this, example if you own more than 5 domains, it gets for free, or something like that.

Is there some particular amount of domains you have to have in order to get this option for free? Or it doesn't matter you own 1 domain or you own 20 domains, still you have to pay those 9.99$ for each?

Hi, it's called privacy protection, in GoDaddy, it's paid service. No matter how many you have, you need to pay for each one. It's free with namecheap, so if you really need it, you should go there.

Last time I checked only the first year was free with namecheap, although it's much cheaper than $godaddy$ after that, I've been using name.com for years, and they have always had a discount code that made it free.

That's why I slowly move all my domains from Godaddy to Namecheap, because of the free or cheap privacy.

I'd be careful with Privacy protection. We only use it on the most risque of our names, or when we are trying to hide from direct competitors. If you are trying to sell your domains, you probably don't want to keep things private since Whois is the first place investors and domain buyers go to research the name. And Google also likely penalizes privately registered domains by lowering their ranking.

Your last sentence has any evidence for it? or it's just another "i say nonsense" moment?

Privacy of the domain does not concern me at all. You can even put a fake information if you don't want to pay the whois guard.

Anyone following this advice could lose ownership of their domain.

Fake whois info is a violation of ICANN rules and your domain name can be suspended or even canceled if someone reports it as invalid. You are given an opportunity to correct it prior to action being taken against you, but it's not worth the risk of missing that email.

Try Namecheap to register your domains instead of Godaddy. They have free or very inexpensive privacy.

Remember that Google values transparency almost as much as relevancy. I said "likely" because I'm not an SEO guy, and I'm not up with the latest strategies. But if I were, I would not do anything to jeopardize my rank, or piss off the algorithm.

There are plenty of SEO people who agree with me, and plenty more who say it doesn't have any effect at all. At the very least, here's an interesting take on what G and Y actually care about as far as registration is concerned...

Last time I used it at namecheap, it was free for the first year and then $2 a year after that. Any time you register a new domain, you get a free year of privacy with it. You can transfer it to another domain if you want, so if you only have one that needs privacy, you might be able to get several years for free.

One more note about privacy: usually when you join an affiliate network, they will want to know the url of your web site. They will probably check the whois to see if you are actually the owner of that web site, If they see that the ownership is not public, it may be a factor in turning you down.

One can arrange with the domain providor to make public and once accepted as an affiliate, can make it private again.
      I also recommend namecheap.com

Namecheap is free for the first year and still cheaper than godaddy after that. I think namecheap is way better than godaddy all the way around.

Google is not going to penalize your website because you made your contact info private. It ultimately doesn't make sense for them to do that because many people would make their info private out of privacy concerns, not to be sketchy.

I found Namecheap a PITA to navigate and find stuff. When I needed service, that was also a PITA. Godaddy ain't perfect by any means. I think I shall stick with Godaddy, but then privacy is of no concern for me, I don't care who knows what domains i own.

Name.com has one of the cleanest interfaces I have ever worked with.

Among other things they added the ability to select multiple domains for changes, for example I selected 15 domains and switched all the nameservers to cloudflare with one click. That would probably take a half hour or more with godaddy.

And they have free whois with a coupon forever (so far I've been with them for years)

And my renewals have been $9.25 lately, which although not the cheapest, it's competitive.

Make an LLC and get a PO Box or private mail box at the UPS store. If you are running any kind of decent business you should have an LLC anyhow.

The only registry I'm aware of it .AT (Australia) which doesn't allow P.O. Boxes, then a private mail box would be needed.
