What to do if you're just getting started.

I was thinking today about what I would do if I had to start over from scratch.

Most importantly - I was thinking about what I would do differently.

Which is easy when you look back on it all. I got started in the early days
of the Internet. Long before tools like Wordpress, Lead Pages, Facebook Ads,
Stripe, and all of the other tools that have made it sooooooo much easier
to setup your online business.

I can remember hand coding my first website in HTML. Total nerd alert lol

I can remember wasting YEARS chasing after Google traffic. HUGE waste of time.

There's nothing wrong with getting traffic from Google. But there are just
entirely too many ways to get traffic that are easier, faster, and FAR
more effective.

If I were starting over today, I would follow a very simple formula...

1. Create a squeeze page giving away a free cheat sheet that taps into the #1 fear, desire, or frustration of my target market.

2. Drive traffic to that squeeze page using Facebook Ads. Right now
Facebook advertising is by far one of the fastest, most affordable
ways to grow your subscriber list.

3. Email my subscribers at least 3 times per week.

4. Create and sell my own products. (We've found that we make the most revenue from our own products vs. affiliates. But you can certainly start out with affiliate marketing!)

That's it though...

The six-figure formula in a nutshell.

If you do this persistently, you should have a six-figure business by the end of the year. Possibly faster if you've got some good copywriting chops.

I like to use a membership site as our base income.

Then any other additional products we launch are just the cherry on top

Facebook Ads will allow you to grow your list quickly and then you can convert those new subscribers into sales using personality-driven email marketing.

Email is your sales driver. It's where you convert subscribers into raving fans. And fans into customers. It's THE #1 asset in your business.

Our real job as information marketers is to educate, inspire, and entertain.

You need to combine your information with entertainment.

Or as by good buddy Travis Sago calls it - Infotainment!

Create emails that delivers tremendous value, build trust, tell stories, inject your personality, and point them back to related offers.

Personality is the MAGIC Sauce in Your Business.

Pull them in with a story and then tie that into a marketing lesson.
Followed by your affiliate link. (or product link)

Every piece of content should be branded with your personality.

Tell people about your latest Super Bowl Party, your strange quirks, your addiction to American Idol, how the dog just chewed through your couch - doesn't matter what it is - all that matters is that your REAL and that people can see that you CARE.

Be REAL and people will love you for it.

Cheers,

Hi Kim! That is some good information, I know Facebook ads are hot, to bad I owe them $32.00 right now LOL, But I think the KEY thing you mentioned is building that LIST - this is the most difficult thing to do, even though everyone makes it sound so easy to do  I have purchased many wso's that claim to help make a big list, but it seems like everyone has the same old techniques, that do not really work! I have made some money with IM but not nearly 6-figures But I will say that I have enjoyed your post Thanks for the info!

Kim makes a great point when she talks about her first site being HTML...

There are so many tools and resources available online now, it makes it very easy to get lost and focus too heavily on tactics.

The 6-figure formula Kim laid out is simple.

    1. Drive targeted prospects to your sales funnel (Facebook is definitely an option that works well, although there are other traffic sources that work well too)
    2. Provide enough value to entice those prospects into your sale funnel
    3. Sell them something... your own products, service, or affiliate products

There are a lot of ways to do the 3 things listed above (multiple traffic sources, multiple ways to create websites, etc.), but the key is focusing on how you can keep it simple and provide value.

Test, tweak, and improve along the way...

    Thanks,

    Josh
