Treading water, help me scale!

Warriors,

I find myself in a strange situation. I consider myself somewhat successful at IM and I am absolutely thrilled that I have been able to depend on it for some - albeit nothing grand - extra income.

Yet for as thrilled as I am that I have some success here, the more usual feeling is frustration as to why I can't scale and grow this larger!

Traffic and earnings, last three years, traffic is 70% organic/30% paid:

2011
unique visitors: 13968
earnings: $1258

2012
unique visitors: 14321
earnings: $3746

2013
unique visitors: 12428
earnings: $5216

So, as you can see, my traffic is actually a bit less in 2013 than the two previous years, yet because I am adding customers my business has grown. Additionally, 2013 was my best year for new internet sales despite the lower traffic. So things are headed in the right direction, just at way too slow of a pace for me.

I have struggled to get over that roughly 1000 uniques a month threshold for sometime and I know if I do I will start to make some really good money.

Can anyone offer me some advice to turn this into a powerhouse? I feel I am on the brink but I rack my brains trying to quickly figure out ways to increase my traffic and sales.

I hear about hot shots making this kind of money within six months or a year of starting IM and here I am with years of experience (been in it a lot longer than the three years shown here) and I am struggling to take this to the next level. I think the stage is set, what is next though?

Bump that 30% to at least 50-60%. Possibly spend more, with current traffic source or try new ones. Paid traffic, is where it's at these days. Use it more, track it and you can make more money. It seems that your content, is converting well...just scale the targeted traffic....

Btw, what traffic(paid) source(s) are you using?

The paid traffic source at this point is 100% adwords.

I was targeting the same keywordsi I use on Adwords via MSN/Yahoo for awhile but just wasn't getting the conversions...Perhaps I should give another shot there though.

Its very difficult to help, if we don't know what we are helping.. if that makes sense.

We could say go vertical with your keywords. But we all know that there is a difference between "Traffic" and "Targeted Traffic"

We could say go horizontal with your keywords by identifying "More".

We could say write a blog, and migrate that traffic to your sales funnel.

We could say take advantage of any of the social mediums at hand.

We could suggest building parallel websites to help with the draw.

We could say leave this where it is at, and repeat the process with another product in another niche.

We could say leave this where it is and develop another and another and another product in the same niche, then develop a bigger site that uses all the funnels. ( IE an authority site )

We could say really focus on your SEO and figure where you can increase your traffic.

We could complain that we have been doing this same stuff for 3 years and never made a penny

      We could say spend more.

we could go on and on.

We will say hope that helps!

You kind of sound like Gollum!

Alas, I know it is a general question, yet just invoking conversation about it helps spur ideas.

        Thanks

@JRJ, I have tried facebook ads but have yet to have a converting customer...still some work to be done there I suppose.
