Jumping on the 3D Printing Trend?

So there are basically 3 major hot tends to look forward to in 2014 when we are talking about technology.

#1 3D Printing - Growth rates are staggering. The market in general will grow 75% in 2014 according to Gartner. Gartner's Top Predictions for 2014 - 3D Printing and Crazy Stuff

#2 Bitcoin - We will either see Under $100 or over $4000 by the end of this year

#3 Wearables: Google glass, Apple iwatch, etc

There are a lot of 3d printing stories at http://3dprintboard.com and bitcoin at bitcointalk.org

So, are any of you guys leveraging the growth in these industries to come up with new ways to market products and earn extra cash? I am particularly interested in 3D Printing.

      It's something i've been looking at getting into, but not much research or checking it out so to speak has been done as of yet. Maybe in the near future.... Too many projects ongoing at the moment.

    You shouldn't be posting things like these on a forum where your competitors will see it. That's a fact. Amateur status right now. Can't stand it when people ask about trade secrets on this forum...or post information that they should keep to themselves. Only thing I'll add is that Bitcoin is going downhill fast. It was a fad...not a trend. Digital currencies will be outlawed soon, since the FED doesn't like competition.

      Really? I think any good marketer would already know these are hot trends. If you stay on top of things these are everywhere and it's common knowledge. I'm just curious as to whether people have begun testing the market out. I'm not asking for your business secrets geez....

      All 3 trends do not look very promising.

      #1 is very specialized.

      #2 is more like gambling

      and #3 might be a trend but who cares unless you buy Apple stocks.
      That's what people said about smartphones 6 years ago. I admit Bitcoin is a gamble, but with more major retailers starting to accept it, things look on the up and up. Like I said $5000 or $100 at the end of 2014. I think the former is more likely.

      With 3D printing, the market has exploded in the last 6 months alone and is exprected to nearly doubt in the next 12 months. 3D printing is specialized now but within 2-3 years it will be everywhere. Mark this post.

      As for wearable there are several ways I can think of to harness the future growth other than buying Apple stock. (Although I'm holding 1000 share to be sure )

      Anyone who watches the news knows all about these being hot new products.

      Nothing 'amateur' about his post at all. No 'trade secrets' revealed either.

      And even if they were 99.9% of people wouldn't do anything with the information anyway.

      I was thinking about buying a domain in the wearable tech niche, but ad words suggest there isn't much interest which did surprise me. There are also not many products available for affiliate yet... will probably get the domain anyway, worth the £6 gamble!

        If it is something you are interested in, start with a simple blog. Read a something or see something on TV, do a quick article, try to do at least 1 a week, maybe a few more. When the market opens up, just think where you will be! You wont be starting off... you will be ahead of the curve. Looking to the future and acting today is the best way to get the jump.

        Im doing the same thing with 4000K TV's it will pay off sooner or later, and the way things are shaping it, it will be sooner than I thought!

      yes can you say tulip boom. I.e. referring to the tulip industry that boomed and crashed hard, after it burnt out back hundreds of years ago.

      Most of this is just gambling and I agree with hpgoodboy

    3D printing could be a pretty broad niche, so I don't think he is giving away too much. I don't have anything in the niche because I myself don't have a product and haven't found any decent products to promote, but 3D printing is undoubtedly the way of the future.

      spot on!, you need to pick a niche within that niche, and you could really kill it online or offline. I do not have any ideas for you, as I do not know enough, but you need to think about or do some more research.

      There is always money to be made in new niches. An inch wide and a mile deep as they say.

    Yes it could be, but I think this is different. If you really look at the market cap of Bitcoin and look at the adoption rates, if it takes off this could easily be trading at $10-20k a BTC. Could it be the next Tulips? Perhaps, but I think this is a fundamental change in the economy.

      3D printing as a macro niche is a good place to start. I have A student that is creating a magazine in this niche and his vision is similar to the eventuality of something like "replicators" as seen on Star Trek. Certainly we are not too far from something at least somewhat like this and is making out to become one of the top fanatical niches if you dig down and find a related subniche like 3d printing to creat tools, guns etc.

        the "Product" is one of 3 things. its the printer itself, the plastics to use in the printer, and the programming to make the printer work.

        I will tell you right now, a library of 3d plots will be a huge money maker!

        I recently saw a study, that 80% of the low end models bought have and never will be used because the people buying them didn't understand the programming needed to make it work. ( Red flashing lights and sirens are now going off in my head everywhere )

          Would you say it's too late to make a general review or magazine site for 3d printing/wearable tech, with niches having their own page/blog post?

          Or at this stage is there likely to be too much competition and a long tail key word would be a better bet? Cheers.

            There is NO SUCH THING as to competitive, to crowded, or to late! If the topic excites you. If its something you would do with pleasure. If its something you are passionate about. If its something you are interested in. Just do it!

            Here is something I do when starting a blog. I go get the top 200 keywords on the subject. I start about half way through the list write a entry using ONE keyword as the focus. put a check next to the word. Do this 200 times.. what do you have? You have Authority, you have Relevance, you have eyes! You now have a hell of a platform to monetize from.

    I found this while searching Google about 3D Printing business's: 3D Printing Business - Could it be profitable?

    I wasn't thinking an actual brick and mortal business, but perhaps not a bad idea. i did see Makerbot has a store in NYC. Offering services might be a good idea, however I'm not looking to get into that kind of thing. I'm thinking more like web stuff. 3D Printing news site, or perhaps an innovative idea like Thingiverse.

    There are probably a couple others as well. I think Nanotech will be huge in the coming years, but probably won't really hit the mainstream until 2016 or so.

    My personal take on Bitcoin is that while it seems to be a fad, the best part of it is not as a digital currency so much as a temporary money holding platform.

    Say you're traveling from one country to another. US to Argentina, for instance. Well, in Argentina the government there is very desperate for US dollars. So people in Argentina have a hard time taking money out of the country when they leave (especially dollars) and would much prefer to have US dollars than the Argentinian currency. Bitcoin is doing well in Argentina!

    And also, if you have more than $10,000 in US currency on you there are obscure laws that say you are supposed to declare it when you leave, plus possibly declare it again when you arrive at your destination. I have yet to actually see one, but some people say that along with the drug-sniffing dogs there are also cash-sniffing dogs at the airports, roaming around looking for people attempting to get away with not declaring the money.

    You could declare it in some destinations and then discover that on the way to your hotel at your destination you find yourself getting robbed because of a phone call made about your large sum of cash by the people you declared it to. Plus, people who don't declare the cash and get caught are at risk of having their money seized even if they have broken no other laws and can prove the source of the cash. Someone was heading into Mexico with $56,000 some years back to buy a house there and was stopped and caught . . . and relieved of their money by the Border Patrol even though they had pay stubs to prove it was not obtained illegally . . . took YEARS for them to get their money back, and they didn't get all of it because they had to pay a penalty for not declaring it.

    Thing is, if you buy Bitcoin and then get on a plane, and then sell Bitcoin when you get to your destination, then you do not have to worry about such limits because "you are not holding the money" the blockchain is. And since you put it into the blockchain and then took it out of the blockchain when you sold it, you have not really "moved" the money, only yourself. Of course, there is always the concern that Bitcoin will crash the one day you travel while you are going from point A to point B, though!

    I look at Bitcoin as a form of hawala, but without the hawaladar. Or money transfer by proxy, instead of with Western Union or wire transfers through a bank.
