Difference between PPV and Media Buys?

Hi,

I hear people talking about "PPV/PPC" and "Media Buys". What's the difference between the two?

I hear media buys are for bigger budgets and ppv/ppc for smaller ones, is that true?

Media buys is buying ad space directly on a website or app.

PPV stands for pay-per-view, essentially they are popups and popunder ads. You pay a certain amount per view or impression every time your landing page is shown.

PPC stands for pay-per-click which is a pricing model and applies to different types of ads. Some media buys are set with the PPC model where you pay each time your ad is clicked rather then per impression.

    Ankee is right.

    PPV = popup ads

    Media buys = bannner ads

personally, media buys i believe are better because they're more sustainable in the long run. i see popup ads dying in the future as people become more educated on preventing or blocking them. media buys will stay

+ Mobile is taking traffic away from PPV...Unless you buy Mobile PPV (I know Exoclick has it), but thats quite different than Desktop PPV

Ok, so where can you buy PPC/PPV ads if not on websites?

According to "ankee1991" you buy "Media Buys" on websites. Where do you buy PPV then, offline?

What you're saying is that networks like Adsonar, Adwords, Adblade, TrafficJunky, ExoClick, Facebook etc. are "Media Buys". Can you then give me some examples of where one can buy PPC/PPV?

      Buying CPC = PPC
      Buying CPM = PPV

Popups? Can be either PPV or PPC, bought on either CPC or CPM basis.

I don't understand why one calls "PPV" for popups. I thought PPV stood for Pay-Per-View? I can buy Pay-Per-View ads on Plenty of Fish. Does that mean that Plenty of Fish is not a "Media Buy" but PPV?

If this is so, then what exactly is a "media buy"? Because Plenty of Fish is a website, and therefore, it should be called "media buy" (according to "anke1991").

        svedski,
        for PPV traffic check out:
Trafficvance – Trafficvance :: Advanced Display & Text Link Traffic | Home
        Lead Impact – LeadImpact
DirectCPV – Pay Per View PPV Cost Per View CPV Contextual Online Advertising Network
AdOnNetwork – Pay Per Click Advertising | Pop Under Ads | AdOn Network
Media Traffic – Media Traffic - CPV PPV Contextual Advertising

With PPV usually you pay per view of your popup.
So far I have been using Leadimpact. Their costs starts from $0.02 per popup.

Here's how the whole system works:

PPV traffic usually means traffic coming from adware that users have downloaded and installed on their computer to gain access to free content such as games or toolbars.

So with Leadimpact.com, people download their software (e.g. Hotbar, ClickPotato) to gain free, ad-supported access to a huge library of premium Web content. LeadImpact offers access to online games, videos, screensavers and software.

You then bid either on keywords or target URLs.

Let's say you bid on apple.com.
So when one of those people (who has a leadimpact adware installed)
visit apple.com - your popup will show up for them over the Apple's page.

You can bid and get your popup shown on any website you want.

        Same with keywords.
You can bid on, let's say "weight loss", so everytime someone enter
"weight loss" in Google - your popup will show up.

Your ad (popup) will be shown only to those who have leadimpact adware installed and
there are millions of those people.

    Thanks for that explanation Raimundas.

So basically it's like adf.ly? 1000's of clicks for pennies of the dollar...and you're lucky to get one opt-in per 10,000 clicks?

Or would you say the traffic is better than that?

I have a seduction/PUA offer. Do you think that would fit well with LeadImpact, TrafficVance and the like?

PPV traffic is super targeted and high quality because you can bid on any
keyword and URL. Adf.ly traffic is completely untargeted and low quality.

For 1000 popup views you will pay minimum $20 with Leadimpact.
So it's not that cheap comparing to adf.ly.

Your optin rate will depend on many things such as:
    Urls/keywords you target
Your landing page copy (freebie offer)

So if you want optins in the weightloss niche, you can bid on 'how to lose weight' keyword
or weightwatchers.com and offer a freebie in exchage for an email address.
    That's just a rough example.

When I collected emails in the weight loss niche with PPV,
my cost per lead was something $0.40-$0.70.

PPV is not easy and requires a huge budget on testing alone.
It's very easy to blow your money in a matter of minutes.
So you want to track every single thing.

If you bid on Google.com, the traffic will came in so quickly, that you won't even realize what happened. This is how much traffic PPV can deliver.

I'm not sure about the seduction/PUA niche as I have never tested it, but I don't see why you couldn't get emails in that niche.

    Thanks again. Sounds good!

So, any particular network that you recommend over another?

My budget is not very large right now (about $100).

Trafficvance.com has the most quality PPV traffic.
To get in you need a minimum $1000 deposit and be referred by a Trafficvance member.

Leadimpact has a minimum of $200 deposit.

Not sure about the others, but I think you can get in into some with your existing budget.

But trafficvance and leadimpact are two of the best PPV networks in terms of the quality and quantity of traffic..
