Namecheap makes it so hard to delete domains/account

I want to delete my account and deactivate all my domains. I submitted a support ticket 2 days ago and received via email a support ticket #. However I cannot find anywhere on their site where I can check the status of my ticket but they don't hesitate to send me email after email reminding me to renew my domains another year.

Can someone provide me a link to check support tickets or a phone number I can call?

  • I think you can't delete a domain. You should wait until it expires.

    • You are wrong, you can delete the domain easily from your domain control panel.
  • they won't automatically renew will they?

When they expire, they'll just drop off?

    • If you chosen not to do automatic renewals, then yes they'll show expired.
  • redstanford,
To turn off domain auto renew:
Login to namecheap, goto "My Account" then click "Manage domains". You will see list of your domain name. Click your domain name and click "Auto Renew" on the left side. You can turn off the auto renew there.

Namecheap doesn't provide phone support. But you can contact them by using their live chat (https://www.namecheap.com/support/livesupport.aspx) or ticket system (https://support.namecheap.com/)
  • You can contact their support and ask to have it removed if you really want it gone.

  • Don't know it it will work at namecheap, I use name.com, and there I have a second account that I don't have any domains in. When the time is right I push those domains I want to abandon to it. They are gone from my active list when they are in the redeem period. I don't look at that account and don't know what happens after I push them away.
  • Not familiar namecheap, I get my domains from GoDaddy. Have you tried there phone # support (if they have one) about this issue? If not just be patient and wait out the ticket. I don't think you can just "deactivate" your domains just like that if you are talking about it auto-renewing there should be an option to cancel.
  • I agree with you. I tried to delete one domain and it was very hard to do. I don't remember the details anymore, but I had to contact Namecheap support. I was used to Godaddy where it's very easy to delete an account (domain). However, Namecheap gives you free or low cost privacy, whereas Godaddy charges quite a lot for privacy.

    • What is the advantage to deleting a domain vs. just letting it expire?

      Just curious.

  • You have to wait until it expires I don't think that you have an alternative.

    • I don't know about your specific question but have you tried their online chat support? I've used it many times and always get instant response and help.

  • Namecheap support deleted a domain for me when I spoke with them several years ago. I could not figure out how to do it otherwise.
