Would this be a bad idea for a blog post

so I have a travel blog, gets about 180views a day

I was going to make a blog post about 5 things not to see in Country X.

Then for each thing mentioned I was going to refer to another blogger in the same niche who has advised you to visit it on his blog.

Would make the blog post into more of a jokey thing that slamming there blog.

what do you think? good idea or bad? why?

leave other bloggers out of it.

If you believe they should not visit certain places then, OK, write about why.

Every time you mention another blogger you give someone an opportunity to leave your site and go somewhere else.

Sounds like a good way to send free traffic to your competitors' blogs. Why would you want to do that?

Bad idea. You might consider explaining why those are bad spots to visit when in that country, and how other blogs (without naming or linking to any) get it wrong. Be specific and give rational reasons.

Set yourself up as a better guide, in other words. Being controversial or contrarian is a tried-and-true tactic to create more buzz and traffic. If you do that, use social networks to draw in more traffic. Controversy/Contrarianism works a real treat on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Definitely don't send them to another similar blog. Every visitor to your website is golden and the last thing you need is referring your visitors to another site.

I disagree with all of you.

Referencing other bloggers and linking to their posts is a great way to build authority and become trusted with your readers. You become associated with big names in your niche and it shows you are willing to give out good advice to your readers regardless of whether it's on your blog or others.

It also allows you to get links and shares from other bloggers who have an audience that you'd like to reach. Bloggers love being referenced and will share it with their audience on social media or mention you on their blog if you do it properly.

Networking and working with other bloggers is one of the most important things you can do.

All of that's true... except in this case. He's basically bashing the bloggers in question. They're not gonna give him linkbacks and shares. They're probably gonna ignore him or fire back and not link to his blog. And they're definitely not gonna want to "network" with him.

In most cases, though, you're exactly right.

He's not bashing them as such just offering an alternative opinion. I don't see anything wrong with it. Difference of opinions and debates are good and it can give the 2 bloggers a chance to debate back and forth via blog topics. Mutually beneficial.

Bad idea. Why would you even want to do that? Leave other bloggers out of it.
