Print on Demand?

I was shopping for a book on abebooks recently, and I noticed that a seller who was selling print on demand books was really close to my house, like less than 1 mile. Curious, I found out it was an apartment building.

At this point I wondered what their business model looks like. Are they listing the books and having a printing company print and ship?

I'd be interested in doing something like that - brokering POD books.

Perhaps someone can steer me in the right direction.

  • That sounds really interesting! Do you have any idea what POD company he is using? Do you think it would work with Amazon's Createspace? I wonder what the criteria are for books to be allowed... I think this idea deserves further investigation!

    • It was just a random philosophy book I was looking for. I took a look at the seller's page on abebooks and I saw that their entire inventory of several tens of thousands of books were print on demand. You can tell because there is a special icon that appears under the listing when a book is listed as POD. I'd love to know how someone can operate this type of business from their apartment.
