Forum Marketing, What are they actually?

Hello warriors, I hope all of you are doing good.

Recently I have come across various people and fellow warriors mentioning Forum marketing and they say its very effective in bringing traffic to the website.

I myself have a technology based website featuring smartphones and tablets, can anyone enlighten me on how can I benefit from Forum Marketing and if so, what would be the best Forums to target?

Thanks in advance.

I would assume they're talking about being an 'authority' member of large forums within your niche.

That is, answering questions and queries correctly, providing valuable information of contributing to discussions.

Then you'll link in your signature or profile to your website. Generally, if you provide valuable posts, people will want to find out more about you.

Obviously your niche is technology, so you'd use Google to find the large technology forums, as well as specific forums in sub niches.

Google terms like 'technology forum', 'smartphone forum' etc will bring provide the results that you need.

Although, I think most marketers who suggest forum marketing are probably more likely to be in the IM niche...

Forum Marketing I'd very simple marketing..

In any forums you have to provide quality information and help people what they are looking for. The more you help the more people will trust you and visit your signature links..

So the strategy works in all the forums so help with providing quality informations and they will come to you..

Don't just think posting on forums and your signature links will get hits, provide more quality information and more hits you will get in your signature link

Thanks for the suggestions, but is sharing links (targeting to my website) related or below a forum post under a particular query a good method? I mean, will it bring traffic to my website, if I do so, will forums ban me from using links in posts?

I think the best bet is to put it in your signature. People will want to find out more about you and your products if they find you interesting enough.

take time get a feel for the technology forums concerns, answer questions then phrase your signature link with a message that addresses one of those concerns and links to content on your site related to that concern.

As others have said, do not go into the forum all guns blazing with the intention of taking more than you give.

It can be an excellent method if you engage in the forum as a contributor, especially if you can demonstrate an area of expertise with good advice.

On the other hand, if you're "one of those", spamming links, forcing any thread to fit your offer, or dropping meaningless, null content one liners just to show your sig, you'll do a good job of teaching members to ignore you.

As for banning you for linking, each forum has its own rules and its own culture. Spend some time lurking, getting a feel for how things are done.

Don't try to pull the "I'm new here, can I do this" game. You might get away with it once, but keep trying it and mods/owners will ban your butt.

John pretty much nailed it. Lurk first, learn about the community culture then add value. If you speak when you have something valuable to add, you become a contributing member and even an authority. If you just talk, talk and talk, you become noise. Stating the obvious is noise, but pointing something out which helps someone understand an issue or solve a problem, makes you a resource.

One good way of doing this, is to offer a solution to a problem..

Forums are full of people who are experiencing a certain issue/problem for which they require a solution or answer.. If used correctly, you can use the forum to answer those questions.

Now the key is, to have a link to your main website as the signature of your posts. If you provide enough helpful advice which is relevant to the product you're offering in your signature link, people will naturally click on your link for further help/information.

NOTE: Don't use the forum as a sales platform to bombard other participants with a sales pitch! That's not how forums should be used.. Provide free helpful content (without prompting folk to click on your signature!) and people will naturally want to see what you have to offer.

Get involved. Get to know the other members. Network. Provide valuable answers to peoples questions and make epic topics people want to get involved with.

Get a link in your signature and if you do things right people will take note of you and follow your sig.

In some forums you can post links but usually it's only allowed every now and then if you're a valued contributor. Signing up and instantly dropping a link probably won't be allowed.

You can't think of it as just a way to continually post links to your own site.

You seem to already be doing forum marketing - you have a sig to an IM site in your blog.

Forum marketing can be effective in generating traffic to your site indeed.

1.) Find a forum that has high traffic in your niche.
2.) Be helpful and don't cause any problems in the community.
3.) Don't be spammy and post your links (many forums don't allow affiliate links)
4.) Complete your profile, and be active in the community.

    Good luck!

The problem with forum marketing is that most people cant understand the difference between the marketing part and the spam part. Here let me explain it:

A person engaging in forum marketing makes helpful and useful posts about subjects he is very experienced in. His primary goal is to be useful and to be a part of the community.

A person engaging in forum spamming makes useless posts, does not engage and never really helps anyone. He just wants to put his link all over and is hoping that people will click it despite the fact that he is not giving anything in return.

Forum marketing can be great. Forum spamming is just lame and annoying.

To summarize, we can say that Forum Marketing can bring traffic effectively through signatures right?
