Earlier today I posted a thread asking how many of you had started your online ventures in order to get some ideas for myself, the vast majority offered the same advice " Start anything just to get experience". So after not much after thought I decided to just go for it, make this the day I start been pro active!

I currently live in Puerto Rico a "associated " territory of USA that I bet many of you have heard of. Having such a strong relationship with the mainland make us to naturally follow every other trend that pops up over there , although I might add always a little late. People here love to see whats cool/hip not only in the states but elsewhere and there's only tumblr for that, no big blogs, magazines , nothing! ( In spanish and made in PR )

So here's my plan:

1. Get a eye catching domain

2. Install WP

3. Get a flexible free theme

4. Install the following plug ins:
  • Social media sharing
    Subscribe to email
    Automatic posting (For scheduled post)

I plan on monetizing the blog through affiliate sales( Amazon? )of the things I post. Also seasonal E-Books about " cool" gifts look like a good idea to me.

So, what do you guys think? Keep in mind that this is just for acquiring experience in all the respective fields I would need to later on be even more successful with my ventures. What would you do different? how would you monetize? any other recommendations ?

Thanks!
#project

    Hey GRVR,

It's awesome to see you've done some planning for your idea and actually put a little thought into things as oppose to diving in with a "blindfold" on trying to make money where ever possible! In my opinion, you're already of to a good start!

I do like your concepts however my expertise is not in monetising websites primarily, I've just sent you a personal message with a proposition I have

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with your project and have an amazing 2014!

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

It's great that you've come up with a plan, GRVR!

One thing I couldn't find in your plan was what NICHE you are going to be making your blog about... definitely spend some time coming up with a narrow niche who's target market is willing and able to spend that ever important dough!

Also note that if you are going the Amazon affiliate route, this will take some serious time and dedication on your part. We're talking potential years before you start seeing a nice income.

Good luck on your quest =)

I was thinking going the route of not actually been able to sell everything I post about for example if I post the latest resort that opened in Dubai it will still drive traffic from people sharing it and that I could monetize some other way.

Has for a niche....Hmmmm " Cool stuff" niche? I know it doesnt sound too specific but Ive seen a couple of successful blogs dedicated to that over in the states.

Its a solid plan but you need to have an idea in mind of what products you will be making and selling to the people who visit your site. This will help you decide on the domain name, keywords, content, etc. You dont need to monetize right away, but you need to know how you will monetize once you build the list and traffic. Build your own products as the cornerstone. eBooks, software, useful training videos or some other digital asset.

Yeah, I was thinking about using a catchphrase for the domain name because people here tend to like website names that are easy to remember and their name directly refers to what their about. Has for keywords, Im still a noob in the SEO department and that is one of my main goals with this website, to actually learn about it.
