Most common sizes I get hired to design are:

468x60, 728x90, 250x250, and 300x250

Skyscrapers (160x600 and 120x600) don't seem to be as popular these days.

  I pretty much do the exact same thing! The other sizes just does't do it for me. Maybe it is the positioning that goes with it or just the size itself. But those 4 sizes seem to be working pretty good.

125x125, 468x60, 250x250, 728x90, 300x250, 468x60, and 250x250.

  Try slider sizes. I have found using sliders work very well over standard banners. I speculate that since most sliders are centered and on the top fold and a good portion of surfers develop ad blindness/tunnel vision.
  
  Also huge banners for backpage.com and craigslist listings.

Keep in mind, it's also niche dependent. Depending on the industry the advertisers might favor one banner size over another. I've found the 300x250 to be very common in certain niches.
