Non-IM Markets = Easy Money in Your PayPal Account... Today!

It seems like everyone looking to make money online starts by trying to teach people how to make money online.

Now, I'm originally a Texas boy, but doesn't this seem like a bad idea?

Someone that's a beginner at making money online trying to teach other beginners how to make money online?

Now, I know a lot of products teach this method, and quite frankly, there's no question that IM is a big market. Also, just because you're new to online marketing, doesn't mean there aren't ways to ETHICALLY enter the IM market...

Some commonly taught techniques involve...

1. Interview an expert
2. Live case studies
3. PLR
4. Etc...

But, in reality, if you're brand new to the online world and you're looking to get started making money, it's actually pretty EASY outside of the IM market.

I'm going to outline a simple system for people struggling to make money online or those that are new that is foolproof and has worked for me on several occasions.

The cool thing is that once you do this, you can now teach people to how you did it, show people a case study, offer coaching, etc. if you so desire to enter the MMO or IM niche... ethically.

So, here's the simple system that anyone can use to get started online and putting real money in your PayPal account as soon as today.

Step #1: Pick a market... Most people get stuck on this one. They are afraid to pick the wrong market, etc. Don't spend more than 30 minutes on this step. I recommend picking something that has a large enough audience that you can branch out, sell multiple products, etc. You also want to pick a market that already has information being purchased... You can validate your market by research some of the following sites:

For Dummies Store

Store - For Dummies

Best Selling Books on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-b...337423-9660368

Best Selling Clickbank Products

Top Clickbank Products For 18 Jan 2014

There are a lot more places to look... Facebook, books stores, Magazines.com, etc.

NOTE: Trying to enter and sell a product as broad as "weight loss" is not going to be a great idea... Think "Weight loss for new moms."

NOTE #2: A lot of courses and marketers suggest health, wealth, relationships and then narrowing down... Nothing wrong with that, but you can be successful with all sorts of markets where information is sold... "Learn to play guitar," "boat building plans, "how to be a beekeeper," etc. If there is a magazine at the book store being sold on a topic (health, hobbies, money, etc.), you have a good possibility of success in the market.

NOTE #3: Give yourself 30 minutes... pick your market... and run with it. Imperfect action is WAY better than no action at all... Getting this launched the way I'm going to outline is not going to take that much time or money, so if it fails, it's good practice, you learned from it, and you can move on to the next market. Do NOT be afraid to fail. Spending weeks researching, etc. is guaranteed to lead to information overload, shiny object syndrome, and ultimately failure. If you get anything out of this post... THIS is the most important take away.

Step #2: Find affiliate programs, articles, and private label rights content about your topic. Make a list of everything you can find, and put it in a spreadsheet... Take no more than one hour doing this... Ultimately, we're going to use a PLR product to validate our market, setup our first funnel, and start making money. Don't roll your eyes... There are great sources of PLR out there... Don't by bottom of the barrel stuff. Look for higher priced PLR, PLR with limited copies being sold, etc. There is some great niche PLR here on the Warrior Forum... some with a limited number of copies being sold. The search bar is your friend... as is Google... Search like this "Your market" PLR

If you don't turn up results, broaden your search a bit, and see what you find... you will definitely find some solid content that you can use.

Step #3: Purchase your PLR. PLR with video and audio is awesome, although not a requirement. Read through the PLR and fact check if applicable... The first time I did this I bought some PLR in the dating niche. Skimmed the content and it seemed pretty sound. I didn't change anything initially... I just launched it as-is to get the idea validated... After validating, I made some changes to the sales copy, etc. to make it convert better, but this is not an absolute requirement.

NOTE: Don't buy junk PLR. I will say, that most non-IM market PLR is of a higher quality than a lot of the IM-related PLR I've seen out there. The problem with PLR in the IM and MMO arena is that many of the methods, tactics, etc. out there can become outdated pretty quickly. Think Facebook... A product talking about Facebook marketing from a year or two ago would not be nearly as relevant as today. Same thing with SEO tactics, YouTube, etc. Too many things that change... With "learning to play a guitar," not a lot changes there... PLR from 2 years ago is still relevant.

Step #4: Setup your sales funnel... I could make this REALLY complicated and do a hole training course just on setting up a sales funnel, testing, tweaking, etc. Many online marketers get hung-up here as well as they want a perfect funnel... You can ALWAYS add to your funnel, make changes, etc. later... Just get the funnel setup. Getting the funnel I outlined here could taken a few hours if you're brand new to this... the cool thing is, once you set it up once, it's great practice and it's much easier the next time.

Here's the simple funnel format I used when I did this for the first time...

1. Squeeze page with a giveaway report... Here are some easy ideas... "5 Tips to..." "The 3 Mistakes Most..." "Get access to a free online guitar lesson" "Quick Reference guide reveals..."

Quick Tip #1: Look at what others are doing in your market and do something similar... if someone is sending Google Adwords or Facebook traffic to a squeeze page, it is very likely that it works... not guaranteed, but a good starting point.

NOTE: Look at magazine headlines for ideas on your squeeze headline

Quit Tip #2: Unbounce and Lead Pages can help you get a squeeze page and funnel up in minutes without any coding required... Although paid resources, they are super easy to use and they have proven templates that convert.

2. Integrate your autoresponder with your squeezepage and deliver the freebie via email... Aweber has a $1 trial and Getresponse has a 30-day free trial. If you're not willing to invest in an autoresponder, you probably aren't going to have a lot of success online. You should be building a list... there is a ton of value for cross-promotion, etc.

3. After opt-in, send your subscriber to your paid offer... This can be done with a Thank-you page our redirect. Both are easy to setup. If you go the thank you page route, you can pre-sell your offer a bit... You should test both. I was lazy the first time I did this and just redirected to my paid offer (the PLR I just bought). I have had the most success in the $7-$27 price point for this first offer.

4. The first time I did this, I had an exit-pop that would send those that did not opt-in directly to my paid offer...

5. Write 7-10 emails sending traffic back to your paid offer... This is easy to do and many over-complicate this... You can literally take chapters out of your PLR or find articles online and give teaser content and a link that says... "to learn more, click here." Something is better than nothing here... you can also test new email copy or hire a copywriter once you make a little money. After your first 7-10 emails, you can send people to affiliate offers in your market, etc. Just make yourself do this... You can knock out 2-3 emails in an hour even if you suck at writing. The goal is the click through... remember that... I've found that some of the shortest emails I write convert the best... under 250 words is normally ideal... people have short attention spans these days...

NOTE: People get worried about continuing to send emails to someone that has purchased already... you can and should setup a buyers list in your autoresponder program that takes people off of the "lead list" when they purchase... Although not a perfect science as someone could use a different email when they purchase, don't worry about it. These little "what ifs" are what keep people from taking action.

6. Upload your sales page to a domain and create a payment button with PayPal. I used Ejunkie to deliver my digital products the first time I did this, but there are a lot of options. You can literally just setup a download page, put a link to your product on it, although this method is not secure (but it's free and doubtful anyone in markets outside of IM is going to be looking for backdoors onto your download page). You can also put affiliate links on your download page, etc.

7. Setup something to track opt-ins, conversions, etc. There are A LOT of options here... don't get crazy and keep it simple when starting out... Lead Pages has some cool analytics built in if you go that route, but you can find some awesome programs here on the Warrior Forum by doing a search. I admit, when I first did this, I just used Google Analytics and nothing else when I first launched.

8. That's it... This is VERY easy funnel to setup... you can always add OTOs, downsells, upsells, etc.

Step #5 - Send traffic to your squeeze page... There are lots of options here depending upon your budget, etc. Facebook is a GREAT way to get started and you can tailor your ads to the demographic you're marketing to pretty easily... Again, I could do an entire course on traffic, but it's really all tactical. Lots of ways to skin this cat...

When I did this the first time, I ran $50 in Plenty of Fish ads and used Quantcast to research my target market. There are a lot of research tools out there to determine WHO your ideal buyer is and tailor your ads to those exact demographics.

I also used Yahoo answers and some forums to generate free traffic. This is great if you have no money for traffic. You can also outsource this.

With that being said, paid traffic is a great way to quickly build your list and test your funnel.

I eventually reached out to some people that had websites that catered to people in my market and bought some banner ads and paid mailings to newsletters for a very affordable price.

That's it in a nutshell... Again, there really is no SECRET sauce, but the above is a really easy way to get started. You can always ramp up and create more products in your market, market affiliate products to your list, etc. The options are endless, but you have to start. If you do the above, you'll learn A LOT and you'll be leaps and bounds ahead of what most courses out there will do for you...

Hope this helps someone out!

Josh

PS - I do want to point out, that buying a course is not a bad idea... I think buying courses to solve specific problems in your business is a great idea... "Facebook marketing, etc. if you plan to implement that tactic in your online business.

Agreed! This is the biggest key to success in anything... Fear of failure can be crippling. Learning to embrace value is what sets apart those that success and those that don't... Period.

Some things I recommend doing when researching a niche...

    1. Make sure there are a good amount of products on sale (ideally physical and digital) and they sell well (lots of reviews on Amazon etc)
    2. Check there are plenty of blogs, forums and social media hubs on the topic so you can network and easily reach your target audience.
    3. Check Google search volume and trends.
    4. See if people are advertising on Google.
    5. And of course figure out what people in the niches problems and how you can solve them OR what makes them supper happy and how you can help them retain / improve that happiness.

Then I run a small test to check it's all going to be worthwhile. I.e. can I get traffic, sign ups and sales.

If it's a blog you want to run add 2-4 articles and an opt in form. Funnel traffic to it and see if you can get people onto a list with a 2 week email follow up series promoting a product.

If it's am email list send traffic to an opt in page that offers a solution to your target audiences main problem and then a 2 week follow up series offer additional help.

If a product you want to create then set up a sales page with a 'fake' buy button that doesn't lead to a payment processor. When people click to buy they are taken to a page saying it's 'sold out' and that page is linked to G Analytics as a 'goal'. Every goal indicates a sale. Simply drive traffic to your sales page and get an idea of conversion rates.

This is an excellent plan, and is pretty close to what we do when setting up a new promotion or testing a new niche. Something that really stuck with me was the section on funnels, "This is VERY easy funnel to setup... you can always add OTOs, downsells, upsells, etc."

A lot of people get hung up on OTOs, exit pops, redirects, and all the other "funnel hacks" and forget that in order to have upsells, you first needs to have "sells." Your basic funnel is the foundation, and deserves the most attention. If you get that right, everything after that is extra money. If you don't, all the other stuff you test is trying to play catch up to get your money back from the ad cost.

Very good plan for newbies and even more advanced marketers, it could definitely be a standalone WSO.

Thanks for this thorough, informative post. And thanks for not trying to sell me anything!

I'm part of an affiliate program that has virtually every type of product available. When my new team members ask for help in promoting and making sales, I always tell them: pick something you are actually passionate or knowledgeable about. It is far easier to market something you actually care about and you are actually at least familiar with, than it is to simply promote whatever is new or hot or high-converting. Obviously, offers with high-conversion rates are preferable, but not if it is something you know nothing about.

Your post would have more credibility without the sensationalism of "easy money" outside of the MMO niche. None of this is easy and anything involving newbies and PPC is extremely high risk.

I do agree with starting out selling PLR before producing your own material though.

Good points, and I think we're in agreement overall...

      A few things...

      1. PPC can be tested with a small budget, but of course, if it's your last $100, PPC is not the way to go.

      2. Free traffic can be used, but it will take a lot longer to validate or invalidate your funnel - Again, nothing wrong with free traffic and minimally you will build an email list while you test your sales funnel

      3. With paid traffic, the more targeted the better... Facebook is one great way to test a new funnel without risking a lot of money.

      4. This method is much easier money than most of the "push button" garbage out there... Hence my title... It's also much easier than digging ditches, etc.

      5. If someone is interested in paid traffic, I do recommend finding a credible mentor or course explaining how to setup a campaign with limits on spending, etc. to ensure someone doesn't lose their shirt

      6. Taking action with the above steps will teach someone a lot... through both successes and failure

      7. Not all campaigns will be winners, although you minimize your risk of overall loss by capturing email addresses and monetizing your list as you test your funnel

      Thanks,

      Josh

      Very good post.

I definitely think we often focus too much on the "latest and greatest" traffic techniques, and overlook tried and true methods for traffic generation that work.

Of course, testing is key to determine the best traffic sources for your offer, but at the end of the day, all you need is...

      1. Something to sell (Info product in this case)
      2. A platform to sell it (Website)
      3. People that are interested in buying your offer (traffic)

I'm all for people thinking and doing things for themselves. But
sometimes certain pieces of advice just make sense. Particulary
when you know this is how successful people started and still
        do things.

One piece of advice he gave about writing and selling an ebook...

DON'T try to sell it to individuals. Send an email to a listowner and
        do a joint venture.

(It helps if you've been a customer of that listowner).

Come on now. Let's take a moment to "see the forest through the trees".

I for one believe that, in marketing, there's seldom something that one can claim as "100 percent unique".

      Why?

Because SOLID marketing is actually PSYCHOLOGICAL and psychology never changes.

That is why, in my experience, I've been ae to generate hundreds of thousands of leads and dollars off "rehashed" marketing methods that are 200 years old.

I don't believe in what's new..... I believe in what WORKS.

Even IF some dude named Jarrett posted a sound method like this a year ago, I guarantee you, HE wasn't the first to think of it either.

I, as a successful direct response marketer THANK Josh for posting this sound ideology that WORKS.

The persuit of "what's new" is dangerously close to "shiny object syndrome", a dangerous disease that afflicts many a member here.

    Thanks for this Josh.

I'm just getting into IM and found it very helpful. There's a stage when you start looking into ways of making money online where it feels like you can't keep up with all the new systems that make what worked yesterday useless today. Just got over this.

I started digging and realized people are making money in pretty much the same proven ways that have been used for years, whether they say so or not.

I just created my first sales funnel and it's almost ready to start getting traffic. This post was very helpful both because of the tips and to reinforce the notion I had that this is how it's done.

      Yuuuuuup.

MARKETING doesn't change. The only variable that changes is the MEDIA.

What Josh laid out here is a MARKETING METHOD, used since the Dawn of direct response marketing.... adapted to this MEDIA (Internet)

  • Clear cut and concise tips here. The secret is on having those funnels set up and not over think things. There are new marketers killing it with ugly squeeze pages while others are stuck worried about if they used the right font or not?!

Yeah, you should see some of the ugly ass squeeze pages and salesetter sites I have out there.

A number of years ago, I got bit by a creative bug and had a desire to better my websites asthetiy.

I did that and my sales went down so I reverted back to the ugly pages with powerful copy - and sales went back up.

Try and find a niche of a niche of a niche. For instance. Weight loss - Weight loss for Men - Weight loss for Men over 50.

There will be plenty of men in this drilled down niche and you can easily target then on all these demographics on POF ads (not disclosed body type, few extra pounds setting) or FB ads (but not the body type)

Amend your plr and squeeze pages accordingly by early or late 50's. Make it seem more personal. Even go further and do it by country. so and send your traffic to the correct drilled down opt in page for better conversions.

U.S. Men in Early Fifties want to learn the 3 simple techniques to losing more weight etc etc.

Alot more targeted than the usual ads so more bang for your Buck.

THANK YOU for the great post! I am proud to say that currently, all of my income comes from "doing the stuff" (for me, it's ecommerce). I DO have a blog where I teach others what I do, but to the best of my knowledge I haven't made anything off of it yet- and I'm fine with that. It's rewarding to hear people find success when following my methods that took me a couple years to figure out! I've got a few affiliate links on it, but I also would not feel ethically right about cashing in on teaching others without having solid experience. Thanks again for the great thoughts!

I think there is a misconception that 'doing' internet marketing means going into the internet marketing niche and selling IM stuff. Many beginners fall into that trap.
You need to learn internet marketing (how to market online) whatever niche you go into but the term IM seems to be misused a lot.

      Great point!

Been busy and never responded to this thread, and you're right...

Just because you're an internet marketer does not mean that you have to sell products on how to market online.

As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, it's much easier to go outside the IM market and sell a product online...

Josh, this advise is amazingly good. Especially for a "free" post. Lots of actionable steps and love the part about just taking action and moving forward... that's the only way to learn. Thanks!

      Glad you found it helpful...

Wrapping up a couple of projects now, but I'll respond back to this thread later with some more information on market research and some markets that have worked well for me.

      Thanks again,

Great post and I agree 100% about the PLR route and non-IM route for newbies, and I would simply add that if you have any kind of marketable skills, you can offer high ticket services as an upsell - so it makes sense to choose a market/niche at the beginning that will provide you that opportunity if that be the case.

Plan your funnels (you should create several funnels targeting a variety of specific problems of your niche) around that skill and provide material for your optins that continues promoting that service directly inside the material (you can edit most plr reports/ebooks).

This is awesome, and a great kick in the butt to get started. So often we spend time looking for more info, trying to get everything right. I love your time limits, and the reassertion that if it doesn't work, its great practice. Get in there and try again.

Great job man! Definitely following this to be able to keep coming back to it for a great reminder.

Another tip for setting up your first funnel...

JVZoo is NOT just for IM products, as you can see here:

      https://www.jvzoo.com/products

It's a great resource for selling your products and creating a sales funnel quickly and easily.

It's pretty intuitive, but they have a lot of tutorial videos to help you get going and setup your product/funnel if you need some help along the way.

      Thanks,

Another helpful resource to add to the list...

I personally LOVE using Leadpages.net because it is so easy to get an opt-in page up, do testing, etc.

If you don't want to spend the money monthly on Leadpages, they release a ton of free templates on their blog that you can use... you do have to give up your email address, but the templates are solid.

It's all about supply and demand and using this tool of the Internet to reach a worldwide audience right from our own home office. Freaking awesome

Where else can you create a business for under 50 bucks a month? Its funny how people don't even want to invest that. Just looking around is all they are doing.

Today I have been finding physical products converting like crazy so being involved in markets where you can promote both makes it insane!

      You're right...

Entering markets where you can sell physical products, info products, services, etc. gives you all sorts of options to expand and grow, maximize the profitability of your funnel, etc.

      Another thing...

A lot of people will dump hundreds or even thousands of dollars on courses, but when it comes to testing a few bucks on paid traffic, etc. they won't do it.

Spending that same money on testing can be highly beneficial.

      Thanks,

      Josh
