What is the typical go-to method for people that make sites where SEO isnt really an option.

Like that 1million pixel site, how did he get the "word" out? From what I remember he had no money for paid ads.

I highly suggest reddit for traffic in the masses. With reddit however, you will need something entertaining, not some niche site. Something interactive, that others will share. Maybe quizes about certain TV shows ETC.

Pinterest is a good traffic source for middle aged women stuff. Like cooking, home improvement etc, and i have heard it has good CTR's with Adsense.

Best of luck in your ventures! Hopefully you will be back here in a couple of weeks with something viral.

I heard Bebo is coming back. Should keep an eye out for that, and get in quick (Making massive groups) and grab some awesome usernames.

I know it's not exactly what you mean, but man, reddit has no inventory. If you want to advertise to specific subreddits other than the front-page reddits (cat images and memes), you're out of luck. Advertisers have already bought up everything through April, which is as far out as you can schedule; I checked dozens of subreddits. I predict variable-rate pricing in the future if they want to maximize on that; the $0.75 CPM they're charging is obviously too cheap if it's selling out that far in advance.

If you're not doing SEO then you're most likely focusing on paid traffic and social media.

Sometimes you need things faster than SEO.

If you can do it right, you can get lots of hyper targetted traffic from forums. Blend yourself into the forum and start dropping links in every now and then to good articles that are actually useful, and you will most likely get a good reception.

if you can get ahold of a good free traffic book with a lot of methods you will find your site in engines anyways in the end. Just use all the methods effectively.

but viral marketing is the best, if your niche can lend itself to trends you are good to go. then start getting into video.

The video section of this forum is a good one to join for cheap. Kurt teaches, viral, trends and video btw

If you can write a compelling press release that will get tons of other sites to write about your project, you can pretty much do away with SEO. Also, if you know how to work Twitter and get in front of the right eyeballs, you can leave all the SEO keyword research and targeting behind.

This is what I was looking for. I can see how press release would be awesome if it was in front of an audience because of the third person aspect.

Im currently doing niche sites but Ive had an idea for a big authority site that I think could go big. However I dont have the writing ability to produce hundreds of articles and its still in a blueprint stage.

I may pursue it eventually which is why I was wondering how this would work when SEO is off the table.

      thanks

Nothing wrong at all with focusing on paid ads and/or social media, but don't ever do it at the expense of SEO or completely disregard SEO. That would never be a smart business move because if you know what you're doing, there is too large of an upside to ignore when it comes to SEO.

By ignoring SEO i mean only initially. As in pretend my website was on weight loss as a whole or something. The actual niche topic or market is hugely competitive and from an SEO standpoint would be terrible to pursue.

Im sure I would find many long tails for landing pages but the initial theme of the site is bad from a competition standpoint

I gotcha, sounds like you'll still be doing some SEO then which is good. If you want really fast results at ridiculously low prices, run Facebook Ads. We've been getting them for less than 1cent per like and that's for targeted, English speaking likes.

Clicks to a website are more, but it's still the most cost effective paid ad method right now.

You've got to have a sound budget and do these and more:

    Hire a professional internet marketer.

Run numerous paid ads on Google adword, Facebook, YouTube, top related sites and forums.

    Social medias.

Depending on your territory offline marketing might help such as banners, flyers, medias e.t.c

Press release and also try to get yourself featured on the news online and offline.

And ofcourse, you need luck and above all prayers too in everything you do..

    Goodluck..

Social media is the exact option where the exact number of traffic and visitors prevails and give the apparent form of output.

If you don't want to go the SEO route but wan't "free" traffic then blog commenting, guest posting, YT videos, Reddit, forum marketing, social media marketing.

If you're willing to go the paid route then banner ads, PPC (FB & Google), solo ads etc.
