Anyone make money by commenting?

Hello,

I've noticed on yahoo articles and popular you-tube videos people comment with affiliate offers, like "work from home" etc.... Has one one tried this and had any success?

Thanks,

That is pure spamming. You know I see a lot of those lately and it is kinda annoying. I hope they could do better than that.

It is spammy, but it can be very affective

I used to do it when I had no marketing budget, I managed to gain a lot of leads from this method to get me kick started

Spamming is not good for our community ,so using affiliate links in comments is not recommended.

If you're gonna go black-hat, go black-hat. Stop listening to people on this forum (like me) and just decide if you want your brand to be associated with comment spam or not.

    Hi Joel,

All the time....but I use a different approach

I comment to build relationships with bloggers.

    I build friendships.

These friendships leads to guest post opportunities or interviews, or I accept guest posts from my buddies, which leads to money making.

I treat my commenting more like a gateway activity than anything else.

All the other approaches are spam.

    Give before you get.

    All the best!

This is what I do. Just commenting with links is spamming and personally I don't allow it on my blog. I just delete the links.

I confess... as a test I did tried that once posting links below videos (who wants to throw the first stone? lol), but I did tried to be helpful and relevant on the comment below the YouTube video. But I learned it wasn't for me.

For example, I had a CPA offer for a print-coupons-from-your-PC, so for every lead that downloaded and installed the toolbar in their browser I got $4.65. Four people downloaded it and I made $18.60 in 12 days before my post got down. I posted it in 2 coupon tips videos. I first searched for "couponing" in Youtube and clicked on Filters, then I clicked on "View count" to get the highest number of viewers for that search, then I posted a relevant comment like "Carmen's tips on this video on saving money with coupons is brilliant! Another thing you can do that I bet you didn't know, is ask the manager to give you an extra discount on your coupons and you could save even more. Go to this link to get free coupons: website.ur\GetFreeCoupons". Never use tinyurl.com to mask your affiliate link, otherwise Youtube will automatically eraze your comment. Use another less known url-shortening service. I forgot the one I used. I then gave my comment 18 thumbs-up with different channels to keep my comment on top of all the other comments. Plus it made it look like people loved my post.

Any-who, but I learned it wasn't worth my time just to get $18.60. I was expecting a lot more downloads. The videos were getting up to 100,000 to 500,000 views and my comments were below these relevant videos... are you kidding me?? That's why I didn't explored it further.

If the comment does not contribute positively to the content that the poster has posted, then it is simply just spamming.

However, if the comment contain useful content that contributes positively to the content, it will really add value as other people will be able to benefit from it.

Too many people have the "Get Rich Quick" mentality until they do not have any patience to contribute positively to the content posted by the poster.

It's spamming but yeah, I know people who rake in a good amount of money doing this on YouTube. They use software tools to automate the process on large scale so don't think that they are doing it manually.

^^^ Love this! It's so simple, yet so true!

OP, if you're legitimately trying to build a business, don't resort to any corner-cutters -- including spammy commenting. It doesn't make people respect/trust/like you, and now that blog owners are getting better at cracking down on spammers, the odds of your keyword-stuffed comments even getting approved are slim to none. You're much better off spending your time trying to think of legitimate ways to build relationships with people in and around your niche. That's where the *real* success lies!

Yeah buddy - When I am watching a YouTube video, and see that someone has just thrown their link up there; hoping to get people to sign up... I personally would NEVER in a million years click it!

...Now - that's not to say that you can't do it by providing value in your comment.

(I don't know whether that would work or not; as I haven't tried it, but if you are going to leave comments; make sure that you add VALUE!)
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8887192].message }}
  • Comment spam is not the best way to go, if you are interested in relationship building with your customers. If your product doesn't relate to the content of the Youtube video being shown, then it's spam. If you can reasonably draw a line between what you're selling and the video, then possibly you could justify that it's not spam. Now that's not saying I would comment spam on a Youtube video.

Well thats the whole idea is for people to leave where they got the information from in the "source" part at the bottom. If your affiliate product truly helps the person out, why not. I do not consider that spam! lol You wanna see spam just check your spam box in your email.

You are in sales and how is anybody going to buy if you don't put out your link. Its just how you go about it.... Today really though you want to be leveraging your efforts and if you can be building a list or a following at your blog or something I feel you are much better in the long run.

Definitely only make money by commenting (useful comments, by the way), on blogs and forums as a means to building relationships. Then, build upon those relationships to get guest posting opportunities and to drive traffic to your site.

Blog commenting is a great way to get traffic, but you need to do it correctly.

When I post an article on my blog, I search for other blogs that used the same or similar key words I used in my post.

Then I go to those blogs and make real comments to their posts. I then record them in a spread sheet so I can easily go back to see if my comment has been approved.

Then I go to all the social book marking sites and post the url to the comment on the other persons blog.

After I have posted 3 or 4 other blog urls to my comments, I post the url to my posted article on my blog. I do not post my direct url to my article until I have posted 3 or 4 urls to these other blogs so I don't get banned from the book marking sites.

When you first start this method you should start to get traffic to your blog with in an hour or two.

You need to do this method 3 to 5 days a week for at least 3 months and you will have a ton of traffic coming to your blog.

This process takes several hours a day to do and you need to keep good records of where you posted and the book marking sites you have posted on including dates and the exact post.

Not all your coments will be approved right away so you need to keep track of these so you can keep going back every day to check if approved.

This is benefitial to the people whos blog you comment on and to you as well as the people who visit yours and other peoples' blogs.

I hope this has been helpful,
    Steve Yakim

I like Ryan's approach. Blog commenting is a great way to connnect with bloggers in your niche. It can also lead to other things like guest posts,jv deals, etc.

On the other hand,if you're commenting just to get backlinks and make sales then it isn't as effective.

Untargeted commenting like that barely works, if ever. You need to go into a specific niche and make an online presence in a forum. Once you do that you can make a ton of money commenting on forums.

In my experience commenting is great for getting visitors to a blog, or just about anything for that matter. One good comment on a good blog can generate many visitors over time.

It's just about joining in on the conversation and be genuine, it of course helps if it's in a field of interest like everything else

It really helps to be the first commenter of course, that way many others reading the article will see this comment and if it's genuine and good(assuming it's a traditional commenting system with links in the name) people many will click through to whatever the url is.

Be early and engage in whatever the subject is, it's not that hard right?

Please don't add to the spam.

No, I have never tried that approach on Yahoo or YouTube; but, I see it profoundly increasing on my own videos (even on other sites like Vimeo). Makes me wish YouTube allowed approving comments or at least deleting them.

However, blog and forum commenting - offering qualitiy in your expertise - is working, will always work, and just plain does work for generating traffic. The big downside, is what I call "screen time". I takes effort and consistency; like anything worth doing.

I have dust collecting on multiple WSO's and 'products' that have, for years, discussed and 'taught' commenting ideas for traffic (which should lead to a site or offer - which in turn should lead to income). Sorry, I can't recall any specific product; but, maybe do a search in the WF and something will turn up worthy of a small investment.

The spammy 'You won't believe how much weight I lost! Try garbagelink.com' is pretty annoying and useless.

Commenting on blogs wherein you add to the conversation, or in forums - especially where you get involved in a discussion is an old tried and true method to get people to follow a link to your solution to their problem. Spam is always pretty apparent.

Always take the high road and add value.

That's straight out spamming and 100% of the time people don't bother clicking or even reading what it's about it. Spamming will never get you anywhere and it's a waste of time

You can however make money commenting if your comment has value and insight. If what you're commenting on allows signature links like here on WF, you can direct traffic to your blog (Best Option) and allow your blog and the content to work it's magic.

I'm not really sure if these spammers are earning money with their “get rich quick, moneymaking” spam ads or just hoping that by posting a link they will earn some money. Most likely, these spam links are posted by a backlink builder on behalf of a client (such as someone who paid via Fiverr). And, the links won't really generate anything. If you get caught spamming, you could risk a ban by Youtube and that could cost you a lot, especially if you spent years building your Youtube fan base.

    Yes.

There is a lot of spam and you don't do anyone good adding to it.

    We've all seen it.

'I like your video/system but for more better results Google (insert random system here)'

    Something like that.

If you comment, leave genuine feedback and engage

with the author/creator that relates to the video.

    As far as monetizing commenting,

what you could do is make your username out of keyword(s)

relating to your niche/market and get clicks to your profile.

    Works decently if done right....

Engaging the video creator is just smart and leaves a good impression on anyone reading the comment. And, if the person reading the comment, likes what you have to say, they are likely to click through on your Youtube username to check out your videos. The place for links to your site is on your own profile where those people can find it, not on someone else's video. Adding relevant and timely information to the comments section, boosts your credibility with the person reading the comments, rather than diminishing it as happens with spam comments.
