One small change that nearly doubled my YouTube views

Hey guys

Wanted to share a little something.

I'm sure the YT experts out there know all about this but one small change i made to YouTube videos has seen my views per day nearly double.

Up until a few weeks ago i was just letting Youtube pick the thumbnail of my video. I now have a custom image which is black with large white text that describes the video. For example

'HOW TO X' (X=what the video is about).

That's it - that is all I changed. I can only assume that now when my thumbnail shows up in the listings it's easier for someone to see what the video is about amongst all the captures of what's in the video. The title page really jumps of the page due to the high contrast of black title square against the white.

Anyways - thought i'd share. Below is the results.

If want to increase the views even more, use a picture of a girl with big boobs, as a thumbnail :p

Of course if you are not into exploiting women do what the OP suggested. Just a thought

If I'm selling to men... pic of a pretty girl... If I'm selling to women (which is the majority of my income)... picture of some beefcake.

      Good tip though OP

Interesting find... I'm (finally) getting back into YouTube. This one technique will help out a bunch!

To do that you have to verify your account... Right? That is why most people don't do that because they can't verify their account.

Hey, thanks for that! Another thing this does is it helps brand you. I might try this, but in certain niches, actually have a thumbnail with more than the How To words on it, although that's a killer idea. But something like a logo, graphics consistent with my blog, etc.

Great tip actually - thanks for sharing. Sometimes the default thumbnail is just plain confusing also, picking some arbitrary portion of the vieo. At least if you take control over it, it couldn't help but increase the viewer interest.
