Hi,

I have a few recipie sites looking like this one:

It is very clean but does not catch interest, looks dull to me.

Does anybody have a suggestion for a nice looking free wp theme that would suit this kind of blog? I may want to insert a few images on top also.

Thanks.

I would check out ThemeForest.net for themes.

Yes, they're not FREE, but I have bought recipe themes on there, and they were AMAZING!

I'm with mtihani on that one. Free themes are not the best solution.

If you need a direct reason why, here it is: Why Free Themes are EVIL - Wordpress Advice of the Month

ThemeForest has some great cooking themes, and then cost only $40-$60.

You know what, I won't try to lead you in with fake promises and false advertising. So let me just be honest. If you're looking for some online business advice for normal people (with no hype and constant product pushing) then hop over to newinternetorder.com

  • Changing themes, whether free or paid, wont make your website any prettier.

Adding images of the food and deleting the default widgets in the sidebar is a great start

You don't need a theme really.. adding pictures like "ThatsReallyAwesome" said is the best way to add some color to your website .. Most likely it'll be the same cost as buying a theme.

I do agree though, themeforest does have AMAZING recipe themes but they still need pictures to make them profitable.

Best of luck with your recipe sites!

    • I don't think you need a new theme, so many people waste 100's of hours trying to find the "right" theme.

I'd agree with some other posters, include images of the food that you have the recipes for and more visual items.

Perhaps you could use some video as well, take some of the recipes and do short video cuts of making that recipe. Post to you tube embed on your site, will help greatly in traffic and reader engagement.

If you don't have the money for a paid theme, I like using Weaver II. If you use Weaver II with some nice looking pictures, your website will look great.

    Good luck.

      Thank you all!

I would like to sell the websites so I need the extended license and can not afford that for 11 sites. And I can not come up with pics of every new recipe other than stealing them from Google Images which I do not dare to do. And if I buy pics for a couple of posts they will get burried on page 2, 3 etc. in a few days. The pics must be static on the homepage, in a slider or without. I will look into Weaver II, thanks for the tip.
