this forum isn't mobile friendly

Why can' t I use the search box using my tablet? I tried various tablets and it's because WF ain't geared up for tablets.

You ask a question .. then answer your own question in very next sentence. Is there a point to this post? Because I know you didnt just make a new thread to complain about the WF not being mobile friendly as that would be pointless, a waste of time, and just silly.

Yes, maybe the owner of this Forum should consider upgrading the design by now.

At the same time, this forum has become very successful with the current layout all these years, so he may be worried that a redesign may cause some things to go wrong, or possibly make some long-time members feel uncomfortable/confused.

In any case, I recommend that WF should be re-designed, specifically for modern browsers and devices.

The current Theme is probably over 10 years old... An upgrade is very much due.

    -----

btw... I have not tried out WF on Mobile/Tablet, so I don't know if there is really any issues on these devices.
I just feel that this design is outdated. Maybe a responsive layout would be nice for Mobiles/Devices.

Yes, I think Google should redesign their home page as well. How long
have they been using it? And there are so many new designs on the market.

hmm... Actually I believe that Google has been re-designed several times.

If you think that this Forum's Design is still "Ideal" for most devices in 2014... I have to disagree with you.

Google optimizes its sites for the various Browsers and Devices commonly used; I'm not aware that this Forum has done the same.

          Google! Search Engine

          Google

Basically the same since 1998 (the WF is even older than that) .. and comparing Google (a milti billion dollar site) to the WF (which is cool but I'm sure not a multi billion dollar income site) is silly.

Does not matter what we think really. The WF is a privately owned site. We are here as guests. Using, viewing and enjoying all the benefits of the WF is a privilege not a right. Given that its a privilege, one provided for free (for the most part), I think it would be very presumptuous of anyone to start criticizing its design.

Just because Google's design has been perfect all these years, doesn't mean WF's design is.

And because Google's design looks the same to you all the time, doesn't mean they don't keep updating it, fixing issues and making sure it works in all/most devices.

When a service is not free, I wouldn't consider that a "privilege", but a service I paid to use (and so far, I have no problem with it, but I don't use it on mobile anyway).

Your arguments don't seem to make sense, really.

google's design has changed a ton, and the methods for which it delivers search results and displays those search results has DRASTICALLY changed year by year.

Google's homepage is made up of a graphic and a search bar. And even that graphic changes monthly.

Google has undergone massive, drastic, enormous, EARTH SHATTERING changes in display, functionality, usability, delivery, management, speed, indexing capabilities, and UX every single year.

The only thing, THE ONLY thing, that hasn't changed has been the appearance of the text box on their landing page. And you could even argue that with auto complete, integration of the search field into chrome browser, auto loading of results when on a search result page, ETC ETC ETC ETC. AD INFINITUM, constitutes even THAT not being the same.

So, yeah. WF could easily stand a theme upgrade.

Google's Design/Look has not varied "Much" over these many years. That does not mean they are Not constantly updating and improving their old Design and Code.

I never said that Warrior Forum should change their Style to Blue and Pink, with pretty Hearts and Rainbows...

I simply suggested that this site be updated by now, because a lot, probably most of the code on this site is over 10 years old, and not optimal.

They could keep the same general Style, Colors, Feel, etc... And still improve its structure.

This site could perform significantly faster than it does now, if the coding and design was improved.

It could also be more user friendly to its visitors, especially on Mobile/Tablet devices.

              Again, this is quite silly...
I never "Criticized" this site's design. It has severed it decently for the past 10 years.

I simply gave a very reasonable suggestion, that this site could be better, in both performance and usability, if it were upgraded to modern standards.

Instead I get a bunch of thoughtless attacks that seem to be nonsensical...

WF's Page rank was actually PR5 last year. (I posted a Topic asking why is it so Low)
              Now it is PR4...

The value of this site is possibly slowly falling, because it is not being upgraded and well maintained.

We have pages like this laying around that serves absolutely NO purpose as far as I see: The Warrior Forum

Well... you can all just ignore my suggestions since I'm obviously not "popular" enough here...

Wow. Are people actually getting hostile about the freaking theme?

Y'all need a bigger "to do" list.

Just as a side note... We regularly get asked about adding Tapatalk or other "phone friendly" systems. That's not something that was just missed or ignored. They conflict with (as in, break) other features with the current set-up of the forum software.

So, not likely any time soon.

Ummm... That's one way to say "Disagreed with me."

The times when the forum loads slowly aren't due to the design or the code. They're due to other technical issues that take regular attention.

That's not to say there aren't other benefits that could come from code updates, of course. There are a lot of trade-offs in any such move, though. Some of them entirely non-technical.

Yup! I'm completely aware that the downtimes of WF are not at all related to the Design or Coding of the pages. They seem more like server-side problems.

I hope that could be fixed/improved some time though!

Yeah I understand what you mean.
New issues do tend to appear now and then, on the Social Network that I own.
On very large, complex sites, problems are bound to keep cropping up over time.

What was your point in saying that?

Just because "I'm rarely on here these days." doesn't mean I don't still use this Forum now and then.
I like this Forum, and only wish the best for it.

Business has been more busy since the new year, and I haven't been able to come here that frequently, recently.

I visit sometimes when I take a break from work (I was having dinner while replying on this topic, earlier). I may look around to see what new information and ideas are flowing through the forums.

I also have constant Sales/Orders coming from this Forum; so yes... the usability of this site DOES matter to me, to some extent.

Why does it matter to you that I care?

What matters to me (in the context of this discussion) is that it
is a collossal waste of time, energy and resources.

It's a competely silly thread. If you have ideas and suggestions
you believe would improve the forum you need to tell them to the
people who can actually do something about them.

So now you are ordering people around, telling me what I can and cannot talk about on these Forums?

My reply was very much on-topic with the original post.

I'm pretty sure that Paul and other Moderators do have some direct connection with the Admin; and the Admin probably does read topics like these, now and then.

I'm sure that Allen restrains from posting too often, to avoid drawing too much attention to himself. (And probably is busy elsewhere most of the time)

      Terry,

Andrew didn't start the thread, but he did offer what he felt were useful suggestions, and he did so in a civil fashion. I don't see a problem with that.

I'm not sure why papeter is having the trouble he's having with the search function, but that is also a valid concern. It appears to be an isolated issue, though.

Lots of unnecessary and unproductive snark in this thread.

In my experience, this is one of the more mobile friendly forums I've used. I think its "old-school" simplicity is one of the reasons why it works so well.

I've accessed it on an Android phone, and iPhone, and a Windows tablet, and I've had no issues.

It's reasonable to post about technical issues, but this thread has devolved into the typical forum posturing nonsense found on forums of any niche.

The general "forum culture" on the internet is a "unique" one, for sure.
