Why can' t I use the search box using my tablet? I tried various tablets and it's because WF ain't geared up for tablets.

  • You ask a question .. then answer your own question in very next sentence. Is there a point to this post? Because I know you didnt just make a new thread to complain about the WF not being mobile friendly as that would be pointless, a waste of time, and just silly.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Ummm... The search function works on my iPad. I use it all the time.

    • This. Never had a problem on mine either.
  • lol. answering ur own question in the same post
  • Yes, maybe the owner of this Forum should consider upgrading the design by now.

At the same time, this forum has become very successful with the current layout all these years, so he may be worried that a redesign may cause some things to go wrong, or possibly make some long-time members feel uncomfortable/confused.

In any case, I recommend that WF should be re-designed, specifically for modern browsers and devices.

The current Theme is probably over 10 years old... An upgrade is very much due.

btw... I have not tried out WF on Mobile/Tablet, so I don't know if there is really any issues on these devices.
I just feel that this design is outdated. Maybe a responsive layout would be nice for Mobiles/Devices.

    • Yes, I think Google should redesign their home page as well. How long
have they been using it? And there are so many new designs on the market.

  • lol, not really... (if referring to/including me)
I was simply defending opinion against people who started attacking my very valid suggestion.

Yeah I'm pretty busy enough all day, all week... but we all got to rest some time.
I'm rarely on here these days.

    • Andrew,Ummm... That's one way to say "Disagreed with me."

The times when the forum loads slowly aren't due to the design or the code. They're due to other technical issues that take regular attention.

That's not to say there aren't other benefits that could come from code updates, of course. There are a lot of trade-offs in any such move, though. Some of them entirely non-technical.

    • Then I can't imagine why you'd care...
  • Yes, disagreed in a "Mocking" way I guess. :p

Yup! I'm completely aware that the downtimes of WF are not at all related to the Design or Coding of the pages. They seem more like server-side problems.

I hope that could be fixed/improved some time though!

    • Andrew,That's worked on regularly, but there are always new issues. Not all of them native to the system...

      Paul
  • Yeah I understand what you mean.
New issues do tend to appear now and then, on the Social Network that I own.
On very large, complex sites, problems are bound to keep cropping up over time.

lol... really?? I don't get you people!
What was your point in saying that?

Just because "I'm rarely on here these days." doesn't mean I don't still use this Forum now and then.
I like this Forum, and only wish the best for it.

Business has been more busy since the new year, and I haven't been able to come here that frequently, recently.

I visit sometimes when I take a break from work (I was having dinner while replying on this topic, earlier). I may look around to see what new information and ideas are flowing through the forums.

I also have constant Sales/Orders coming from this Forum; so yes... the usability of this site DOES matter to me, to some extent.

Why does it matter to you that I care?
    • [1] reply

    • It doesn't.

What matters to me (in the context of this discussion) is that it
is a collossal waste of time, energy and resources.

It's a competely silly thread. If you have ideas and suggestions
you believe would improve the forum you need to tell them to the
people who can actually do something about them.

Until you see "ADMIN" chime in you can assume that nobody posting
in this thread can act on your suggestions.

These threads are nothing more than "whine-fests" that lead nowhere.

I always prefer the full desktop version of any site on my tablet, but I have never noticed any difference.
  • It's quite amusing the discussion that ensued from a question that was asked and answered in the same post, haha!

I don't mind navigating this forum from no matter which device I'm using.

I just wrote this post using my iphone..

    Cheers!

  • Then why waste our time replying here, when you have nothing constructive to add to the discussion?

Really? You seem to be overreacting greatly...

So now you are ordering people around, telling me what I can and cannot talk about on these Forums?

My reply was very much on-topic with the original post.

I'm pretty sure that Paul and other Moderators do have some direct connection with the Admin; and the Admin probably does read topics like these, now and then.

I'm sure that Allen restrains from posting too often, to avoid drawing too much attention to himself. (And probably is busy elsewhere most of the time)

So why are you whining so much over nothing?
Why do you keep bumping this thread with your silly replies?

You have contributed less to this topic than anyone else here.

    This is really amusing!... :p

I don't see why you and some guys here are getting so worked up over a very simple, relevant and valid suggestion I made:

  • Sure, Andrew... whatever makes you smile in the mirror.
  • Yea it sucks on my IPhone it needs a mobile version for sure
    • [1] reply
    • Terry,

Andrew didn't start the thread, but he did offer what he felt were useful suggestions, and he did so in a civil fashion. I don't see a problem with that.

I'm not sure why papeter is having the trouble he's having with the search function, but that is also a valid concern. It appears to be an isolated issue, though.

Lots of unnecessary and unproductive snark in this thread.

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I use the search function regularly on my iPhone and my iPad with no problems, aside from the occasional technical glitches the forum has. Just sayin'........

  • In my experience, this is one of the more mobile friendly forums I've used. I think its "old-school" simplicity is one of the reasons why it works so well.

I've accessed it on an Android phone, and iPhone, and a Windows tablet, and I've had no issues.

It's reasonable to post about technical issues, but this thread has devolved into the typical forum posturing nonsense found on forums of any niche.

The general "forum culture" on the internet is a "unique" one, for sure.
  • Back to the OP's original question.

Are you signed into the forum on your tablet? I think the search function only works if you are signed in. A lot of people don't bother signing in on their mobile devices.

    Just a thought.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Yes I signed in on my tablet. I just can't use the search feature on my samsung galaxy note 8. I dont have any probs with other forums. Anyway this thread might encourage the owners of WF to update this forum and bring it into line with more friendly designs.
    • [1] reply
    • I'm able to use the search function regardless of being on my phone all the time.
