I'm considering creating a product to sell on Clickbank and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips or share some past experiences?

That's a very open-ended question. If you can't be more specific, you might not get much value from the responses.

I'd recommend that you do a bit of research, using search terms like "Clickbank product creation", or look at the WSOs on this forum. Then you'll know enough to ask questions which can be answered without people trying to cram a whole book into one Warrior post.

    Some Resources:
    * Clickbank itself has a lot of good how-to info
    * No doubt there are good WSOs here
    * Check out Affiliate Marketing Training, Software & Support | Affilorama
    * Do a Google search

From experience, I can tell you that most Clickbank products are "info products" in the form of an ebook. Creating an ebook is simple. Write it in Microsoft Word (or the free OpenOffice). Add images for cover and body. Do the MS-Word page numbering and then Table-of-Contents things. When it's perfect, save it as a *.PDF file. That's an ebook everyone can read on any computer.

    Hope this helps...

if your early in. you could create a few avatars of your ideal customers. If you make them out like a character with personalities, you can start to have some direction.

I would be interested in creating a clickbank product too. Although if you sell it on your own site is it possible that spammy marketers from Clickbank could lower your product's credibility in the market? Or is all marketing good marketing?

    Here's what will happen....

    1) you'll spend months and thousands creating a great product.
    2) you'll spend another 50 to submit it to clickbank for approval.
    3) Clickbank will reject it like they do for 95% of the products.
    4) you'll lose your money
    5) you'll feel shattered, confused, and end up on jvzoo, but with there crappy set up you won't get the affiliate signing up as fast and easy as you would with clickbank.
    6) your project will fall apart.

No clickbank has become a bit of a joke. I'm not sure who's running it but they're basically nazi's. They only care about their elite click, of power merchants so to speak. Any new merchant is just tossed to the way side, and they keep your 50 bucks. I think what it is partly is they have a good thing going, and they don't want some newbee, not matter how well intending they are, to mess with there good thing.

So no clickbank is a total joke. Trust me, if you go ahead and do this, and you get accepted on clickbank and pass the 50 dollar review please PM me I'd like to know. As it will prove me wrong. But I don't think I'm wrong.

I've seen a lot of garbage on Clickbank so how is it that they were approved?

I suspect you're in forex or MMO? ClickBank has to take measures to protect themselves against the FTC.

Get into a real niche where you can help people. Write an ebook on something useful, use a real picture/name and put up a 1/2 way decent looking website. If you're using a penpal name just disclose it on your website.

Clickbank will accept you right away.

I have products listed on Clickbank - it's not rocket science and it's not automated income. You've got to work hard to get quality affiliates.

      All the best,

      Vikram

    A couple of thoughts:

I think you are putting the cart (literally and figuratively) before the horse. Your question, in my opinion, shouldn't be about where you are going to sell but about what you are going to sell to whom and how will it help their lives be better in some way.

Once you have a product that provides real value, it really doesn't matter WHERE you sell it. You could sell it through any number of payment processors or merchant accounts. You could take checks. You could require money orders. You could sell it offline for cash only.

Where to sell it only needs to be addressed after you have something to sell (or are getting close to version 1).

So do you have in mind what you'd like to help people with?

I'm still in the market research phase, so no...I don't know yet what it is I would like to help people with yet. Although I'm not opposed to making good money, I'm not after a quick buck. I want to generate a quality product that will truly be helpful but I'm trying to find something that I'm interested to make the actual product creation more enjoyable.

That being said, I don't want to waste my time either. I've been researching products on Clickbank that look like high quality products (great sales page, great product, great niche) and I always wonder why some of these have a very low gravity score? Are they just starting out or is no one promoting them?

        Here's my advice.

        1. choose the right market. focus on DESPERATE markets.. that are desperate for a solution... Do they have money and are they willing to spend it? Yes. good! no? pass!

        Health - great!
Relationships ( get ex back, save marriage, get a girlfriend) - great!
Money ( MMO / forex / real estate / stock trading) great!

Health - eczema, panic attack, diabetes, hair loss, weight loss, back pain, etc.
        Great markets.

Acne - bad. Think about it.. in the acne market.. who is your prospect?
Kids. teenagers. and broke college students. do they have money? no.
        skip.

Knitting / rock Collection - are those markets desperate? not really.. not the same level as someone who has a serious problem.. it's a hobby niche.

How to get a job / how to write a resume - is that a good niche? I'd skip!
Think about it.. if someone is looking for a job.. do they have money? no. that's why they are looking for a job in the first place. lol

Ideally I look for markets that are desperate, target people who have money, have similar products on clickbank that have at least a 40 gravity,

Then I go to Google trends and type in the main keywords.. how is the niche going? is it losing traction? yes? stay away..

Look up markets like Male member growth, breast enhancement.. look at it in google trends. they are tanking fast. I'd stay away.

Try your market if it's booming and rising.. GREAT sign!

        2. Creating the product
Way too much to get into here as far as how to create a product.. but I'd encourage you to really dive down deep.. become the expert.. learn the market. find out what people's biggest frustrations are..

What do they like about the other products? what do they NOT like about the other products? learn from it.

        3. Upsell - you need upsells. think of things that compliment the course..
if you're doing weight loss.. a great upsell is a meal planner, weight loss calculator, recipe guide, membership etc.

If you're running blanks on what upsells to do a.) see what the competition is doing.. get ideas from that.

b.) go to amazon.com .. look up a book on your topic.. then scroll down to the bottom.. you see the section that says ' customers who bought this also bought THIS... < BOOM! ideas for good upsells.

        4. Setting up the membership site
Really minor. You can use OptimizePress, Wishlist Member, or DAP.
        those all work great

        5. Sales Letter
This is honestly one of the most important things. the sales letter will either make or break you.

        Bottom line.

If you've got a crappy sales letter.. you are not going to make money.. no matter how good your product is..

If you've got a HOT sales letter that converts.. well.. even if you're product is not the greatest.. chances are you'll still make sales.. will be alot easier to get affiliates etc.

So this is why I HIGHLY recommend just saving up and getting a solid copywriter... they are worth every penny.

How much to spend on a copywriter.. really comes down to how serious you are about this and how much money YOU want to make.

        an ok copywriter for $500 - $1500
A good copywriter is going to cost you $3k - $5k
A great copywriter is going to cost you more $5k - $10k
An amazing copywriter that makes you millions.. will cost even more..
        but it's worth it..

If you can't muster up at least $3k to pay for a *decent* copywriter..

You can try posting up a job on Elance / Odesk.com or looking in the Warrior for Hire section. you can find guys that can write copy for as cheap as $100..
But you get what you pay for..

At the VERY least.. I'd recommend spending $500 - $1500

        6. Graphics
Simple sells. It's cool to get some graphcis that wow people.. but at the end of the day it rarely helps with conversions..

There are tons of guys in the Warriors for Hire section that do pretty good graphics..

        GetMinisite.com
        BlingCovers.com
        WSOCreative.com

        etc.

        7. Affiliates

Test your offer first. Send some solo ad traffic to it.. PPC, whatever.
I would HIGHLY recommend figuring out what your conversion numbers are before you ever bother contacting affiliates.

        Once you do.. Give affiliates a big commission 65% - 75% +
Reach out to them on Skype, facebook, go to events, etc.

If you've got a good offer.. it converts.. and you are cool.. they will want to help you out.

        'Nuff said.

Thanks Jarrett. Reading your comment about getting a job, made me ask myself what's the difference in the getting a job product and the make money online product.

Don't most people come to the Internet looking to make money because they are broke or in debt or unemployed? I am just wondering what your thoughts are in the difference between the two products.

Don't most people come to the Internet looking to make money because they are broke or in debt or unemployed?

So here's what I've found in the MMO / home biz niche.

The largest demographic I've seen are men who are 40 - 63
who hate their job and are looking for a way to make an additional income.

Which is why the selling point "tell your boss to shove it!" is so prevalent..

      With that being said..

MMO / home biz is a HUGE market. so there's a lot of subcategories underneath that.

Make money online taking surveys... Make money with 3 click software.
Those are going to be offers that really attract people who are broke, unemployed, don't have much money.. and are looking for a get rich quick scheme..

If you're selling a $7 WSO.. or software that makes a bajillion bucks with 3 simple clicks and are selling it at a price tag of a whopping $19.. then yes. you're going to be dealing with alot of those same people.

So offers like that are going to be similar demographic to 'how to get a job / loans / grants' stuff.

Compare that to offers like this in MMO / Home Biz:

      SEO / offline marketing / e-commerce / kindle / higher ticket stuff..

the crowd you would be dealing with for these offers is a much different crowd. These people typically have a job and have more disposable income.

Have you gone through clickbank training for vendors? Thats a great place to start. They offer offer a platform that will walk you through the process of setting up your first product. They take care of things like the statement that needs to be there and a lot of those small things.

I think Jarrett covered it all. Awesome post!

One thing I would add is to remember that Clickbank is just a payment processor with a HUGE affiliate platform.

Make sure you get your product converting, and test, test, test, test, before releasing.

Then, if you can show a converting product to affiliates you will have no problems recruiting.

Most people release the product with no idea of whether or not it will convert.

The good news is, if you do it right you can make a lot of money on Clickbank.
