Fiverr Claims Valid? Promote link to 18,000,000+ ...

I have a small free (currently) classified ads website that is pretty country specific that I am just starting up and I have a few questions about driving traffic to it.
My main goal right now is to get traffic to the website so it will start being used.
Some on Fiverr claim that they will promote a website to 18,000,000+ FB users etc. Is this valid and will it help help drive traffic to the website. Along with the classified site I have a business directory that I would like (of course!) to populate with businesses.
Does anyone have thoughts on how to drive traffic to this website that will be beneficial and not just blackhat type traffic?
Am I just barking up the wrong tree with something like this?
Thanks

$5 for 18,000,000 Facebook users? That's a scam. A majority of those sellers use bots and fake users. Yeah, it'll bump your numbers, but within a few weeks your numbers will start to decline again. Go for quality, targeted traffic, not quantity.

If someone really had legitimate access to that many Facebook users, they wouldn't be selling them for $5.

They might truly promote it to 18,000,000 FB users... but it's highly doubtful they will promote it to active users, or promote it anywhere that active users will see.

There are tons of "junk" groups and pages, that have many members, but little activity.

I wouldn't count on much quality from something like this.

Thanks for the info. That is about what I was guessing.
Any thoughts on how to drive legitimate traffic to a new free classifieds website?

Starting a new classifieds website is in all respects just like starting any other website. You need to advertise your services. Since you're in the advertising business, this should be rather obvious. There are many free resources online where you can place a link.

One thing, though: there is no instant gratification. Getting organic traffic takes time. If you just want raw volume and don't care about quality, you can open up the gates and let anyone post without registering. But beware - that will bring in a whole bunch of junk. In that scenario, you don't need to do anything - bots and spammers will find you.

So true. We are starting to get just a little organic traffic and we work at it a bit each day to try to bring in more qualified traffic - we also don't allow open posting Really don't want to promote that sort of traffic. Would rather have quality traffic.

The thing with such Fivver Gigs is this, because it is cheap, you think you can just try it out, but we all know better. If we all can drive responsive traffic with a five dollar gigs, who else will need Google Ad Words? Make a search around this forum and you will see how many offers are there to offer solution to traffic. It's one of the most Profitable Skill to master.

Let's go back to the basic, traffic is really "ad exposures", the only thing different is that in the online world, things move fast within a few clicks of our mouse. So the questions still lies on the USP of what you are offering, and determine your target market before you decide on how and where to promote your site.

You owned a classified ads, now think in the offline world how does classified ads work, "classified ads" are place on newspaper because there is a readership there. And the readers don't buy the paper "just" for the ads.

The same goes to business listing, a gift items buyer won't goes to a Machinery Business listing to look for the info they need, right?

So it really depends on what kind of "classified ads site" and business listing site to find your traffic. we know one of the most successful online classified ads is craiglist go here and read how it all get started

    Cheers

Thanks Jason! I really appreciate your input and I am heading off to read how Craigslist got it's start. Regarding Fiverr, I was very skeptical in the first place so I asked here to confirm my thoughts. I feel no need to throw a five spot in the bowl and flush....

Stay away from traffic and advertising deals on fiverr...you will make $5 profit each time you don't buy them.

Considering this is even possible, they probably have some kind of 'illegal' software program. I doubt this claim is true so save your money. By the way, when you deposit funds in a Fiverr account you have to spend that money on Fiverr. You can't take it out if you cancel a transaction.
