domain.com and www.domain.com both working

I used the weebly site maker from the hostgator cpanel, and then I tried the 301 redirect. Now both the domain.com and www.domain.com are working fine and are pointing to the homepage. What do I do to make the domain.com point to www.domain.com?

As a result of using the weebly site maker before hand, the .htaccess became very complicated and had lots of content already on it.

Yes and you'll want only one or the other for SEO reasons, having both www and non-www live can cause problems.

Using redirect is not working. It says the server is redirecting in such a way that it is never getting through.
