Hi, so I've been blogging on my favorite NFL team for three years, and only made $50 on Adsense. I could never get it to work. So I'm starting fresh with a new URL and site. Same niche though. I've bought a decent domain and good theme (using Wordpress instead of blogger now).

I was wondering how do I get the initial first month traffic? With my previous sports blog, my busiest month was 5k views.

Also, how should I list build for this niche, and how do I grow my Twitter presence? I've created a Twitter for it but have less than 100 followers.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can use banner ads on sites your niche routinely visits. If you get your ad in their face when their excited and doing something in their passion, then your response will be better. Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try that! Do you think if someone's more on a budget they could offer an ad swap with a popular blog in that niche?

Why not create a fan page on Facebook? Build up likes (this is very cheap) and after you have built up a rapport, direct them to your blog.

Thanks for the tip. I've never used Facebook ads. How much would I invest and would you know how many likes I could get out of that amount?

  • Knowing how to utilize social media is key. That's how I've gotten 20k views in about 6 weeks. Facebook fan pages are willing to share content that they find interesting, so if you find an appropriate FB page, try to get into that network and you will have a platform to share your work.

    • Another good source of traffic to try are Facebook groups where sports fans congregate and talk. You'll get the chance to refer others to your own blog or at least your personal profile or page where you have your links to your blog listed. Establish trust with the people you are talking to on these groups by coming across as personable but knowledgable on your niche.

Thanks for the idea. I looked at the groups in my niche and I have the potential to show my content to thousands of people?

          Coel,

I'd hate to see you give up on a page you had for 3 years...how much traffic were you getting?

Also, how were you attempting to generate traffic other than creating content.

Ultimately...you need to find out where your niche group hangs out online and then go to that spot and give them what they want. As a previous user said Facebook is a great way to do this right now, if you need any help setting up an ad just shoot me a message I'd be glad to help.

I was getting a few thousand page views a months. I was promoting it threw Twitter, Facebook page, and other places that I would occasionally post my post to.

I'm learning a lot of new stuff from Warrior Forum and think I know what most of my mistakes are from my last blog.

Did you ever ask about doing a partnership with the team(s) you were covering?

This could lead you to a floodgate of traffic. Sometimes outside of the box ideas are best.

How would I partner with them? Is it likely they would say yes?
