Is there really a market for new websites?

Is there a market for new turn key websites? I had planned to build a few sites this year some being e commerce. I had planned to sell these sites on flippa, has anyone out there done this and made a profit. Its it really worth the effort for the amount of return you would get for a "new" site??

Kind of depends on what you mean by 'turn key'. If the site is practically monetized already, has plenty of unique content, and you can show its getting decent traffic than by all means there's a market. Not just Flippa, but even right here in WSO land under 'complete websites for sale'.
Many of these sites for sale have the content, and the designers simply sell them along with info-packs on driving traffic plus directions for monetizing. Lots of opportunities.

I think you can sell trunkey sites on ebay as well even if you dont have any traffic. There are many guys doing it on ebay. Better you try there, I hope it brings some success to you.

Judging from the number of turnkey that are for sale in the "Complete Websites For Sale" section of this forum it would seem that there is a good market. Many of the sellers there list practically every day, something they wouldn't do if it wasn't profitable.

There is for sure a market for turn key sites.

Whether a site makes money or not is important. Whether a site gets traffic or not is also important.

Another factor is the design. People buy sites that simply look good and where the buyer can imagine that they might be making money with the site.
