Thoughts on Amazon Affiliate Program?

I've been scoping out the amazon affiliate program and it got me thinking....why isn't it popular? It's obviously discussed on here but it really isn't the primary choice for most people...any reason why?

The commission seems to be kind of small...what other cons are there?

It's extremely popular. Amazon and CB are the most popular programs on WF.

Commissions are small but Amazon converts well as people trust them. Get the clicks and let Amazon do the rest.

Interesting...The reason I ask is because I constantly see people on here looking for solutions that Amazon Affiliate solves perfectly..I don't understand why they are avoiding it

tl;dr i dont see it talked about

The market is low comp new products come out all the time you just need to be on top of product trends. Say a new type of frying pan with a certain name hits the market. Example top teir chefs pan lol this is a hard core example lol but if you have a blog where you do reviews of products you can simply type a simple review of the top teir chefs pan. Lol very easy to rank for..... Lol hope this helps

Yep. Amazon is great because of the trust value. Clickbank is great because of the high commisions.

Both have there own methods. Try them both out and see which you prefer.

It's true, Amazon has the added advantage of customer trust. Plus, whilst the commissions are small to start with, people often tend to buy more than 1 product while they are on the Amazon site which means you can progress to the next level of commission relatively quickly.

ClickBank is great for higher commissions but you need to "do more selling" or at least be very selective in your product choice. It also pays to find vendors with professional-looking sales pages.

Are you saying many users of WF don't think much of Amazon affiliate, or were you referring to some other forum/site/blog that talked about different affiliate options?

I hear about Amazon often in these forums, so I was just wondering...

Do a search on the Warrior Forum for 'Amazon' and you will see plenty of topics on the subject.

The Pro's are that Amazon are a trusted brand and if you can get your visitor over to their website they are the Best Sales Machine in the World to convert their visitors into buyers.

It also helps that you are selling physical items rather than digital products that are fairly hard to convert [in my opinion] outside the MMO niche.

The Cons is that you will have to wait at least 2 months for your first payment and it takes a lot of hard work to build and maintain enough sites to make serious money.

I would also not rely solely on SEO either, I would recommend using social media such as Facebook Fanpages, Video Marketing and other Web 2.0 properties. Some people are making big money via newsletters and article marketing but I haven't used these methods myself.

This was an excellent thread on the subject but unfortunately now closed

I'm a bit amazed that you say not to rely on SEO. Maybe I'm biased as I have the network to rank sites fast of course and if you had to outsource that it could become quite expensive. (personally I spend about $600 on links to rank a 25 or so page Amazon site, that $600 is sales value btw, for me it costs a lot less as I only have the costs of content).

Facebook Fanpages also need to be promoted, just setting it up and waiting isn't doing anything, same applies to video marketing, you can upload a video to Youtube but if you call it a day after that it hardly results in any traffic (unless you get lucky sometimes). Any strategy behind these things?

depend which niche you in since amazon offer wide rang of products ,

for me mostly on gadget and this month ...going to end
        have clicks but no sales....

perhaps people already spend a lot on holiday seasons....

or perhaps ..somewhere suddenly go wrong

I more curious fellow amazon affliates how you all target vistors...
for an example those on gadgets.

I'm not saying ignore SEO I'd just say be wary on relying on it and Google as you know some big time Amazon affiliates have been wiped out in previous algorithm changes. It's also something that a newbie to niche site marketing could easily mess up with all the conflicting advice around.

Yes Facebook and Video Marketing and driving traffic to Web 2.0's all will take a mixture of time, money and some knowledge but at least if something goes wrong somewhere you still are getting traffic even if your site is kicked out of touch by Google

It's not all that hard to rank an Amazon site, there are just a few simple things to keep in mind, and one of them is more important then all.

Have as many pages as possible with no affiliate links on them, few options to do that:

          - eCommerce site with add to cart function (although that converts a bit poor)

          - instead of a buy now button on product review pages create a button that says something like "Compare" that takes them to a comparison page where let's say 10 products are listed and thus 10 affiliate links on that single page (converts GREAT)

          - Have a single page on the website saying: "Click here to proceed" and link all the other pages to that page, again problem solved.

And for the rest people should obvious refrain from automated back links created through software's. Then what's left in terms of link builidng. Agreed not much, as most people won't link naturally to such sites so you'll automatically end up with links on expired high PR domains, which can be a bit hard for a newbie and perhaps a bit expensive when they have to buy them.

However expensive, it's not bad to spend $600 on SEO to have a site that makes $200/month that can be sold for $2000,- on sites like Flippa, but obvious that's where most people go wrong, they are scared to invest to make money and rather spend countless hours with Youtube and Facebook where they have to convert the buyer twice, once from those 3rd party platforms to their site, and then from their site to Amazon. Not very efficient, or perhaps you mean to drive them from Facebook, Youtube, Pinterest directly to Amazon but then you deal with issue's that 200 of your video's can get deleted any day any time cause they treat it as spam.

SEO has it's pitfalls, same like every other method.

Nice setup in Chiang Mai btw, I tried to find a house with a decent sized garden here in Pattaya but those lots are soo damn small and still pay like 20,000 baht/month up, just not funny.

              Here's a couple of ways;

If the product you are promoting has a discount on Amazon

'Click here to get a 40% discount off xxxx

The best price we have found online is Amazon click here to see the cheapest price

You can also link to Amazon reviews

We also saw this review from John in Kansas who said the product was also great for....Read the full review here

We saw a review where this lady from Texas compared product x with product Y you can read what she had to say about the differences here

There's tons of ways to go about it you just need to put a little thought into your review.

Another benefit of Amazon is the fact that you get credit for ANY sale made within 24 hours of them clicking on a link with your tracking id. For example, if your site is selling cat tuxedos, a person clicks on your link and buys a lawn chair, they you get a commission on the lawn chair.

I'm with you on the onsite stuff; limiting the amount of affiliate links, using comparison tables etc. Using Java Script for links helps and at the moment I am a beta tester for Amazon's Publisher Studio which Is a great way of adding links also using Javascript.

Yes I enjoy living in Chiang Mai and it is still pretty cheap up here but I am about 11km out of town.

Your post has some great information for me as my google referrals has dipped to 1 or less per day since 1/10. But I was wondering if you could elaborate a bit on this quote above? I'm thinking of doing what you suggested and with my new reviews have NO affiliate links, maybe just Adsense, then click to a comparison page. But not sure what the "click here to proceed" would go to. You said link "all the other pages to that page".
What do you mean by that?
Thank you in advance for the information. I'm into this for 1 year now and want to get more than the $60/month I'm getting right now. Mainly forum referrals which is tiresome.

The "Click here to proceed" page would link to Amazon, so that there's only 1 page on your site that links to Amazon.

You would have to make use of the "add to cart/shopping cart" functionality cause otherwise the visitor wouldn't end up on the right product page.

This makes no sense at all... If you have an affiliate link leading the customer to the product for more information, this it self "gives them value" by recommending them to amazon. All they have to do is click the link and they can see all sorts of information about that product.

I put amazon affiliate links on all my reviews, over 34 review so far with 3 affiliate links on each review. This site has passed all the updates and is still increasing in traffic and making more sales all the time.

Yeah, I have some information pages and posts but I would not worry about putting links inside your content.

I don't want to be a downer, but I do not personally know anyone who makes a decent amount of money as an Amazon affiliate. The only way I found to make money from Amazon is to sell items on there (movies, games, etc.) or publish an eBook on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (if you do not want to write, you can get the work outsourced). I know this was probably not the answer you were looking for, but I thought I would share in case it can help someone.

For one, how do you know what marketing methods are being used by the people who complain that Amazon affiliate program doesn't work? Most beginner marketers stick up a few widgets and banners and expect a flood of traffic and sales, but as any experienced affiliate can tell you, that's not going to happen. You have to be active to get traffic and then presell that traffic on the products. You can't just post a link and think it will convert into dollars. So, I'm just assuming the complainers haven't taken time to actually sell anything, they're just link spamming in the hopes of earning easy money.

Interesting point you stated.." You have to be active to get traffic and then presell that traffic on the products" which some I didn't get it...

I got most of the traffic from Facebook group , social medias..
yes I can get near to 1k traffic perhaps not enough...
I check this month ..daily click....

the lowest is around 16 ...highest can be 100++ or more per click
problem weird..this month don't have even a single sales...

Devilfish168 you must be doing something wrong, 700 clicks and no conversion?

You need to tap into traffic thats already in buying mode. If I'm using facebook, then I am not thinking about getting out my credit card.

On my site I target buying keywords, xxxx review, xxxx best price, xxxx vs yyyy etc. This converts well and I managed about $1000 in sales last month.

Nonsense, with Amazon it does work like that, just place a link and Amazon will sell, that's their job. I've proven it for myself countless times with my wide range of Amazon affiliate sites in combination with crappy content that is hardly readable.

So perhaps you should try some things for yourself instead of giving an opinion based on things that you read somewhere.

Sure, the commisions might seem small, but it all depends on the niche you're targeting. Keep in mind that some products sell in the thousands of dollars. Your best bet would be to target big ticket items that require minimal shipping.

The Amazon Affiliate Program is awesome. I just wished they paid a bigger percentage to start. Awesome business model though.

Well if you were an affiliate who lives in Minnesota, you recently had your affiliation terminated for political reasons. Your locale may be next, you'll never know until all your work and investment are instantly down the drain.

You can easily make a lot of money on amazon. Although their commissions are small, but a lot of people purchase their product from Amazon. So you can sell a lot of products on Amazon easily and get a big money. I suggest you to promote products greater than $100.

    Thanks
