What are the secrets of successful blogger?

Hello,

My name is Bastiaan and I just started participating in this forum. I started my own blog 2,5 months ago. Eventually I want to monetize my blog by selling affiliate products and selling products I developed myself.

In my opinion you first need to built a readership with engaging, useful & unique content. Then you have to make sure those people see you as an authority on your the topic you are blogging about. Then you can start selling things.

There are so many blogs out there and sometimes it is hard to stand out and to get heard. I asked 9 influential bloggers what their best tips are for growing and monetizing a blog.

I think this article will be very useful for anyone who wants to start a blog and eventually monetize its.

I also want to know what your best tips are for growing and eventually monetizing a blog. What is your best practice?

Let me know what you think and what your best tips/practices are!

Regards,

Bastiaan

    Hi Bastiaan,

There are SO many things to learn

But you I guess first you need to focus on:
    1. Your blogging topic. Make sure this is something you're passionate about and can create interesting and engaging content.
    2. Traffic. This will be mainly organic (search) and social. So you'll need to learn how to SEO your site and promote your blog on the social networks.

    Good luck!

need a lot of time bro...unless you enage others help to provide you articles..

I tried 4 blogs ...usually one blog I will promote more...

think back ..what others said is true..

better concentrate one blog ..first..than the rest let it slowly build up the traffics perhaps.

If you are blogging about say weight loss. The pattern I see most, is people are trying to pigeon hole themselves into trying to convert 1 item or report. The reality is that there are MANY things you could be trying to 'push'. Say as stated you are trying to push a 10 step diet program. That's fine, but what is one of the most important things you can do when you diet? drink water? why not throw a water delivery service up as an offer? ( yes they do exist, and yes they have affiliate programs )

So instead of pounding people with the stuff you want them to have, give them things they NEED to succeed within the topic you are covering. Then by staying on topic and discussing the importance of water, you make the offer on that single blog post ( Targeted advertising ) That doesn't mean you put banners all over your site for this, because it is relevant. you stay with in the context of a single blog post and make a single offer.

I am in no way suggesting you do this with every single post you make, but every 4th or 5th post you might try and directly match a product or service to your content of that post.

        Hope that Helps!

From personal experience I would say the most important aspect of blogging is having high quality content. People will be far more likely to share it and a post can go viral if it's good. Posting quality articles 2 times per week is far more effective than posting crap every single day or multiple times per day.

Pick a topic you like and STICK WITH It. The majority of blogs fail to make money because the writer(s) get burned out too soon and stop writing before they have a chance to start receiving organic traffic.

Also, use twitter to your advantage. It is very easy to get super engaged followers on there to help spread the word about your articles for you.

JR, As much as I agree with what you are saying I also am in a way going to disagree. If I write some 1500 word piece, that is great for my readers, and don't take a few minutes and run over it with the SEO comb, I have shorted myself. Many times changing a word or 2 in the title and using/placing a specifc key word in a strategic place is all that Is needed.

I like to think that these changes don't effect the over all reading of the article. The one thing I do is link each and every piece of content added to my site at least 2 times from with in my site, using a alt tag loaded text link. Usually I use one on my previous post making it a "Next post" type link, and then I add it to my site map.

Another thing I do is I tend to write a series of posts on the same subject. I will then create a Introduction post that has links to all of the posts in that series. This technique I have found to be very helpful to my readers. It allows them to find a certain thread of information with out going through it endlessly looking for a needle in a haystack.

So again I am totally agreeing write for your readers, but I am suggesting to spend that little extra time and make your writing efforts work for you on the SEO front as well.

  • The best way is to use keyword marketing. For example, purchase the keyword "successfulblogging.com" Make sure that the keyword has high traffic low competition. Then use the keyword in the Title and Body of your articles, add meta descriptions and keywords. That should work..

      MASintermarketing,

I don't agree with you point. Just buying keywords and place them strategically on your website doesn't give you good rankings anymore.

Like Absolutelee says: first focus on high quality content that helps people and is unique and engaging. Eventually when people discover your blog and you've done enough genuine networking people will link to your content.

You make it look easy to start a successful website and rank well in search engines. But it actually takes a ridiculous amount of time to really become an authority and create things that are worth reading.

    Nonsense.

Please no one listen to this. Has nothing to do with being a successful blogger.

Good to see you finally got this thread approved. I noticed you tried several times yesterday.

I had a look at your article and I noticed that nearly every blogger stated that the "secret" was good content, perseverance and letting people know about your blog.

    Couldn't agree more.

Please no one listen to this. Keywords play a factor in marketing, plain and simple. Most people are just too dumb/impatient to do it right and rather than taking the time to explain it (time=money) novices are told to just totally turn away from keywords cuz the big G's gonna slap ya.

Your readers and customers search with keywords/phrases. Ignoring them would be stupid. Basing your business (and content) solely around them is stupid (and no longer viable).

I agree with many of the top posters.

Connecting with your readers is KEY & this can only be done if you genuinely are trying to help them. If your making your blog with the focus of making money then trust me, I've had heaps of blogs in the past but it just doesn't last.

The blog I have now, my main focus is to help people and I blog about the issues I face in paid affiliate marketing which seems to connect with other newbies.

I enjoy writing about it and get a sale every now and then from it too! See the money coming in as a bonus.
