How Do Affiliates Know If They Have A Buyer?

Im in the IM market,
I have a nice size list that i have been using to promote a few products periodically.

I'd like to segment the leads who purchase, so that ill have a list of buyers and a list of non buyers - -but i cant figure out how without placing a tracking pixel on the download page, which i cant do because the product is hosted on jvzoo.

So is there a way to track who is buying and who is not??

Thanks

You already answered your own question, I am afraid. As an affiliate you can't track buyers - they are not your buyers. Only the product vendor can place a tracking pixel on their download or thank you pages.

You can only segment your list in people who click your links (or don't click or open) and thereby at least filter out a group of people who are interested in these kinds of products. But you won't know if they have bought.

If you want your own buyers list, you need to become a product vendor, sell the product to your list and then you'll know.

If it peeves you so much, perhaps you should use correct punctuation, capitals where appropriate and cut down on the drinking.

Thanks for your answer...maybe i'll try something where I segment my list by users who have clicked a link a certain amount of times and play around with that for awhile.. thanks.

Thats a good idea, I'll read more into the feature immediately. Although I'm sure it only works if the products are hosted by those services (which makes sense). But its a good start nevertheless. thanks

That's a cool idea! Can you automate the segmentation on your original list then?

One way you could do it, is send them to a download page where you have them enter their email address (again) in order to receive their bonus. Then with an automation rule in your autoresponder that person would be moved from the original list to his "buyers" list.

Excellent idea trevord92! That should essentially solve what blackhawkup is after.

Here is what I have done. I setup my own tracking service on my web hosting service.

Here is a link to one of my products Unlimited Background Checks at eVerify.com. This link will take you to my tracker and then redirect you to the product. Thus I get all the tracking data of my customers within the tracking softwares back office. Here is the broken link so you can see the link http://www.fouryours ucess.com/1/tk.cgi?backgroundcheck

You can't really track the purchase. You can know some demographic info, if the merchant share some with you. Like the IP address etc. That is specific to each merchant / type of business and can't generalize.

What you can do is to create a custom URL for each email you send, like appending a random ID to each mail and keep a database of all of them. When they click through to your landing page and then to the merchants site, you can track using the same IP if you know some PHP. That is you can see who all are clicking through to your site from email and who among them actually go to the merchants site. I think that is nearly as good as the report you are looking for.

I'd need to build a business case for development resources. Is this something that many people would be interested in? Would you be willing to switch auto-responders for the ability to know who is buying and who is not?

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but if this is something that lots of people want (comment below) I think we can make this happen.

    Cheers,

I believe there is a way for you to segment your list in your autoresponder. There should be an option to have your prospect move from list to list when they purchase said product. For the exact step by step I would look towards your A/R help center for the details

Most Autoresponders will need you to place a snipet of code on the confirmation page to know when to move the prospect to the buyer's list. The problem here is that the affiliate has no control over the sellers webpage, so won't be able to insert the snippet of code.

To me the obvious answer to this question is the developer's (in the case of someone who is a software affiliate such as myself) control panel. My favorite among many being used is iDevAffiliate, where as an affiliate I can log in any time and see traffic and sales stats, among other things. Plus some setups also generate email notification of sales (I call that "email money").

Other of my developers have "blind" arrangements; i.e., where I send sales their way and have no idea what's going on until a check or PayPal payment comes through a month or quarter later.

You can argue the latter is a situation ripe for affiliate abuse, but I actually got surprised just yesterday with a call from a (blind arrangement) plug-in developer based in Canada who said they realized they owed me a little over 1K for 26 sales! I was shocked both by their honesty and by the amount. Maybe Canadians are better people, ha!

The real question is why? I know it is tempting to drop the dead weight, but the reality is, you don't know who the dead weight is. The people that buy your next Item, may not have bought the last 6.

Here is something I do from time to time, maybe once a year at most. I offer a killer FREE deal. Of course its all internalized, so I know exactly how many on that list opened that e-mail. I actually send this out 2 times across 3 days, and say oops sorry if you got this twice, there was a server issue. Once you know how many times that file was downloaded and compare to your list you kinda sort a know where your list stands.

I have been doing that for a number of years, and actually have people on my mailing list reminding me / asking when the next FREE deal is coming! I do mine the first week of February every year hahaha This year I have a 3% communication rate on this subject alone with my list. kinda funny

Now that I am thinking about it a buddy of mine did something similar a few years back. He sent out an offer, and stated that before purchasing said item at this Low low price that they will have to sign in first the username was preset and the password was the e-mail address. So they got sent off to the Password page, and then to the offer.

Because I do not want to promote products that people already own and have purchased via my links. I guess thats the only reason really
