.net vs .com which one is best?

Which one is good?
I am planning to purchase a .net domain.
#net

If you are asking in regard to SEO, I find that both domain extensions are great. There is not difference in them when it comes to SEO, so what ever you chose, it will work fine. I have .net domains that are performing well in terms of rankings and organic traffic.

However, when it comes to business, most people are used to. com extensions and so if your .com extension is still available, it would be best to take that.

I would stick with the .com for sure if I can't get one I might pick up an .net but the .com is first choice for me at least..

    Hope that helps

For SEO, it doesn't matter much. To get and keep visitors .com is tons better.

If the project is important for you why not take them both (in case both are free for registration of course)?

I personally always stick to the .com even if I have to deal with longer domain.

.com is better as it looks better at the end of the domain. However for SEO, I think .com, .org and .net all are same and they need the same effort for ranking them.

    Type-in traffic: .Com

    Branding Purposes: .Com

These are my personal preferences above.

SEO: Doesn't matter. As long as you're doing the backlinking and other SEO stuff correctly, your site will still show up in the SERPs.

Depending on your subject you can choose either net or com. If you are not a trademark no need to purchase both com and net. If you redirect one of them to the other you will have to work for both. You need traffic from the other domain in order to redirect it. Otherwise you will own the domain that doesn't have any visitors and even if you redirect you will not get any value. If you work for both to get traffic than it's valuable.

Neither one is better nor worse than the other. Branding and making a site popular is made neither easier nor more difficult because of its domain name extension.

The only people who worry about these things are internet marketers!

lol this is totally true. If you build a great enough product/service, you shouldn't have to worry about the TLD, etc.

Certainly .com is the premier extension and will probably always be at the top of the totem pole. But times they are a-changing and there's a lot of new TLD extensions to choose from.

Much will depend on what kind of business you are in.

A lot of domain experts have high hopes for the .web extension when it becomes available. Other considerations could include:

          .blog
          .club
          .directory
          .network
          .online
          .solutions
          .website

Just a few of the new choices available now.

Two domain names are exactly the same ... except

One is a dot com - the other a dot net.

Which is best? Dot com wins out every time. Why?
            • It is meant for commercial sites
            • For "type in" traffic - it is the standard (default)
            • It is most easily branded and what most people expect
            • It is more professional looking and what "the big boys" use
            • It is more scarce (which is a good thing when you own it)
            • It is the preferred extension in most people's preferences
            • When you go to sell your site or domain, all other things being equal, it will be worth more to you than any other extension
            The choice is a no-brainer.

There are many great domain names available in every niche so don't believe the excuse that "all the good dot coms are taken" -- they aren't and all you have to do to find one is use the free tools available.

Personally, I would always go with .com first since it's the most recognized and easily remembered. The only time I would go with .net, .org, etc. is if the .com extension is already taken.

As far as SEO, the extension really doesn't matter.

I agree with the majority. People expect a .com when they go to the internet. It's just the way it is. Plus, if you think about it, if you're not sure of a company's Web site, you're most likely to try "company.com" before "company.net". Just my thoughts!

.com all the way. It is better for visitors, branding and SEO.

I know that most people will say that it doesnt matter for SEO but my experince say that it does matter. Not to the search engine directly. But most people regard .com higher and it will therefore be easier to build links to a .com. Peopla assign it more trust aand are more willing to link to it.

I think visitors and people searching automatically think .com especially if trying to remember the name of a site.

I would always try to go for a .com if possible. It just rolls off the tongue.

If you have the .com available, always go for it. Though I agree that at this point there's almost no difference at all between a .com and a .net, however, take note that for almost any user, the first thing that they'll think about when typing a site's name is that it ends in a .com.

.com all day if possible. If that's not available and you get the .net, be careful who has the .com and what's on it. You'd hate to build an amazing website and then have all of your traffic be filtered to the .com because people type that in by mistake.

If you're a business or building a brand, I recommend getting both if possible. Maybe get a few of the main ones (.org, .net) depending on your budget just to make sure no-one else does.

Everyone's right that SEO-wise it's irrelevant. Everyone is most familiar with .com's though. Although, what's about to happen soon makes me wonder what's next in the world of domains!? - The biggest land rush in the history of the internet begins on February 4 – Quartz

Always go for .com and take .net only if .com is not available. The only exemption is if your website represents some kind of a network and is about some kind of networking then .net could fit nice into that profile.

i wanna buy a .com name which is the same name as the .net for an existing online business. Their .net business domain is valued at $6700 but the .com which is available and i wanna buy to resell to them is valued at $850. Should I buy to hopefully profit by reselling to this unique business that has a .net website?

If the .com is available then go for it, of course. Even if they don't want to buy it, you're only out like $12...that's a pretty awesome risk/reward.
