I have 2 domains, keytoabs.com and key2abs.com ( i have .net also) which you would prefer? with 2 or to in the domain name (in general number accepted?) or would it hurt SEO?

Thanks for any opinions, appreciate everything!

keytoabs is better and helpful in keyword ranking.
key2abs goes to a different direction.

I like keytoabs.com better... but at first glance, it's hard to decipher the URL. Stay on this track, but consider slightly changing the domain name.... or at least add dash in your URL.

I prefer keytoabs.com since it has better recall and it' easier to understand what the domain name is all about.

I agree. Keytoabs takes a bit of time to register and be understood by the brain as being "key to abs". Key2abs has a certain distinction, the 2 becomes a good separator. However, if you are after ranking, (who isn't), then keytoabs is the best option.

    Hi gearmex,

I have to ask what you're trying to achieve with this name and/or your site. I'm assuming you're targeting the fitness market, but the phrase "key to abs" isn't one that your potential visitors are using. If you type the exact phrase into Google, for example, you'll only get around 45,000 matches, and the top responses will be from searches for the All Blacks rugby team. You'll obviously get a lot more results using any combination of the three words in the phrase, but that won't do you much good in such a crowded market.

If I were you, I'd try to come up with a different name.

I think key2abs.com looks better. I agree with the others that keytoabs.com is tough to read at first. But that doesn't mean you couldn't write the link as "KeyToAbs.com" to help with that problem.

I disagree that one is better than the other for SEO. "To" isn't a very important word like "the" "or" "at" "how to" so you can make up for that within your meta-tags and content. Most of your long tail keyword placement will come from your content URLs anyway. And your overall SEO authority will come from lots of factors, not just "2" vs "to".

I prefer keytoads, but both are same for SEO unless your actual keyword is key to abs.

I think only text in domain name is good. I didn't find any benefits of number in domain and you just think how many search a query with number on search engine.

    • Wouldn't "to" act as a stop word in SEO so might be ignored.....

        newsaboutabs.com

I used to make clone sites of online stores for a customer. Different domain name, different header image. Same products. I rewrote the text for each. One of them went to page 1 in the Serps. Some of them were back on page 10. (Google really need to get their act together- same stuff should rank the same)
There were no differences in inbound links. Can you see the point I'm making?Throw sites on them and keep the one that does the best.

But if you plan to make a long term successful Fitness website, then you should look for a more interesting name...something that can become a powerful brand.

Hi Have tried using a key wordtool to see what results would be with each of you domain names? which one has the highest search for results, then you shuld be able to make a decision as to which one would be best, or do you need to modify
        the domain inany way.
        hope this helps.

KeyToAbs is pretty easy to read to me and key to abs is much more likely to be remembered, searched, or entered in a URL IMO. Unless of course your niche market is 4-7th graders trying to develop their abs in which case I'd go with key2abs.com.

I don't like any of them but to answer your question - none of them will help or hurt your SEO. Monthly ave searches according to GKP is: key to abs = 40; key 2 abs = 0; news about abs = 0. I would never use "news" unless you are actually planning on posting current news items as the main point of the website and then it would be the best of the three.

What are people more likely to type into their browser, 2 or to? If you optimize your page for either one it will be found but the likelihood of someone typing either phrase into their browser is slim. I think the key2abs.com is more brand-able tho.

From the very beginning, I was told never to buy a domain name that had numbers or dashes in it.

No numbers because people don't know whether it's the number 2 or two.

It's the same for the dash and it's not good for SEO.

I disagree. IMO, there are certain cases where you can build a brand with numbers in the domain. But in this case, I agree 'keytoabs.com is the better option. I doubt very many people are going to be searching for 'key two abs'

I'm no SEO expert, but I'm fairly certain it has little to no affect on SEO.

Just depends what you're trying to accomplish with the numbers.

Agree, for SEO purposes it's not as important as it used to be.

Saying that, if done right it can play its part. I've done fairly well with domain names which include the name of the product niche in them. IMHO, as long as the site content backs up what you're trying to achieve then having a keyword rich domain name can help with SEO, but not as much as it used to!

      Cheers
