Website building...advice please

A friend of mine has asked me to build him a website for his property business and my idea was to use a professional wordpress theme from themeforest. How much would be a reasonable amount for me to charge for this?

Basically I think he wants me to get hosting upload the site and theme, configure it, put the content on there. Probably add plugins for SEO and then show him how to manage his site and upload content.

Thanks.

Gone are the days of website building.
There are 1000's of hosts that give you crazy awesome template based websites for $5 a month. Make him a nice logo and set him up with a wordpress type site. Clean and professional.

Thanks, but that's pretty much what I said. I want to know what a fair price to charge for this is though.

As a freelance web designer myself I charge an initial non refundable deposit of $197 for configuration and set up once the client has bought their hosting package. One of two affiliate offers I present them with for hosting companies I'm prepared to work with which usually nets me between $100 and $150. I then bill the client in blocks of each set of 10 hours work charged at $50 an hour.

Any plugins are at a cost to the client and billed for accordingly. From experience, make sure you have a plan agreed and signed by both parties for exactly what the website is supposed to do to ensure that you don't get caught with additional costs to bring in coding specialist like jquery or php etc if they want additional features at and believe it should be in the initial cost. And another reason why this is important is because you are doing this for a friend, they can often be the most difficult of clients and potentially put a strain on that relationship just because there's money involved.

I hope that helps in some way.
