Can you make big money with small niches?

heres a problem Im having:
I dont know for my next site if I should go with a BIG niche thats competitive like dieting or credit repair.
or if I should go with a small niche like knitting or how to build a chicken coop lol.

Im mentally frozen and dont know what direction to go into. So Id liek to hear if there are people who have done really well with small niches, or if its more likely people make the money with the big niches.

background (if youre interested):

In the past 3 years Ive really worked my guts out and hired writers and promoted 2 sites and 3 years later I've made small money with them (like $1-2k month) so now im kind of sad and mad and I want to work hard on something that will reward me better.

Im getting older and dont want to keep chasing my tail I want some success.

thanks for any tips

There is a ton of money to be made in small niches. But, you need to have a portfolio of small niches to get into the really big money.

Now, I like being in the bigger niches because it is easier to make big money. But, if you master a couple of small niches you can easily get into the big money as well.

Actually, I know a dude that is simply killing it in a ton of different niches. He puts together nich after niche and blows it out of the water.

He is actually making in the seven figures.

    Hi

I just recently started to adapt to becoming full time IM soon, but I have noticed that it seems that everyone says it's best to actually have an established market, one that is in demand and quite a lot of competition. The reason being that a lot of competition means a lot of trade which means that there is going to be a substantial amount of money to be made, but you will have to be extremely competitive and outflank your competitors like if you were having a war.

However on the other hand, small lucrative niches are equally profitable as you don't have to compete with as many competitors on price, added bonuses, free gifts etc....
But how much money will you make if there is a smaller fan base?

Equally, if you can find a small lucrative niche market, which is always in demand and has a huge customer/fan base but is hardly exploited then that maybe a better option. And if you could develop that into a membership site which recurring income - I guess that would also be great too.

Alternatively, you could go with what your interested with, after all, there's nothing worse than promoting something you hate, would get bored and lose interest after a while or even worse, just putting it off all the time because you can even bear to look at it or put any effort in.

I hope I haven't confused you any further and good luck with whatever niche you decide

You could also try creating a few smaller niches that are along the same theme which lead back to a bigger niche that is in the same theme. Doing this allows you to build the legs (small niches) for the base (bigger niche).

Once you've completed this setup you can then move on to another entirely different niche again, focusing on building the legs first (small niches) before workign on the base.

An example might be the following:

    Car insurance
    Life Insurance
    Health insurance
    Pet insurance
    Travel insurance
    Home insurance

Those are the small niches (well not that small in this example) but they can lead back to a large insurance website you create as the authority hub.

Or you could just focus on one particular insurance product - Say auto insurance. This becomes your big niche and your smaller niches then become the following:

    Missouri auto insurance
    California auto insurance
    Washington auto insurance
    etc....

I realize that example is still extremely broad so maybe this paints a better picture

    Big Niche
    Pest Control

    Smaller niches
    Bed bugs prevention
    Termite prevention
    Spider Prevention
    Snake prevention
    Rodent prevention
    Roaches prevention
    etc...

    Respectfully,
    Tim

Here is another way to think about it.

Do you like plugging away at something that will eventually lead to a good payout even though it could be a ways down the road? Then the big fish may be for you.

But, if you like seeing winning small battles on a regular basis, then you may enjoy going the mini niche route.

Both can result in big rewards. My ADD condition actually favors the mini niche route

You can make $500-$1,500 in small niches, selling information products, just scale it to 10 or more niches and u can make some nice money with it.
In many niches there is none or small competition on Google so it's easier to dominate it, but also not much traffic to gain.

I'm looking at a couple of small niches to pursue, because although they may be harder to building a consumer base, once you have a faithful following the small niches groups will be committed to you and your product / services since you meet their need the most.

Yes, small niches are very easy to dominate and you get something you rarely find with the bigger niches, loyalty. Put out good content, good products, and setup a small forum like this one and you'll be pretty much be crowned as the king for that niche
