Need ideas for list building giveaway

I am going to start collecting names from my site. I have had this site for a few years and get steady seo traffic. I havent built a list before for a couple reasons. I didnt know what I would send them and I didnt want to just promote products at them continuously. My site is a free games affiliate site. I get paid for leads and I have adsense ads on it. But I would like to monetize it further.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What about putting together strategy guides for the top FREE games on your site?

That would probably convert very well.

Alternatively, there is probably a large cross-over between people who love all the FREE games you are offering and people who like and play the most popular 'platform' and PC games as well...

If you are familiar with any of the most popular games for X-Box or PC, what about putting together a strategy guide for those and then offering that as a FREE giveaway...

You probably have a lot of connections in the gaming niche, and maybe you have some friends who have already done their own guides or videos surrounding certain games.

Something like that, positioned correctly, would probably work very well also.

creating emails is the same/easier as creating content for you site. you dont ever have to send a promotional email. you can just keep sending content with your pay per lead link at the p.s. section.

There are new CPA offers for free to play games all the time. One network just released five new ones about a week ago. Add new games as they come available and promote them to your list.

Get them to click through to your site to view the offer details. This way if they don't sign-up for that particular offer they may do something else while they are there.

I know where you can get some excellent MMORPG PLR guides for opt-in bait. I've had good success in the past offering them to gamers. In fact I think I have a Diablo III guide I own rights to. If not, they only cost like $10.

Put a lightbox on your site offering a free guide and "advance notice" of new free to play games. All the big ARs offer lightboxes and they are easy to use.

There are a lot of things you can offer on your site.. from strategy guides to cheats for certain games..new releases ..etc
Also in order to increase your conversion ratio, instead of just adding your opt-in form on the site, and hope people will join in, i would put something like "Need beta testers for new games, enter your email here".. people love this kind of things.

Excellent idea coupled with Alex's suggestion, I'm going to start using this "need beta testers" idea myself

  • CJShu99,

You could try using the top selling offline niche magazines in your target countries to get ideas for a good mailing list subscription offer for your site viewers. Take note of recent cover story headlines and feature article titles. It'll be best to read the entire content of these cover stories and feature articles. Then, you can create your mailing list subscription offer around the ideas that you get from those cover stories and feature articles. Why?

Those publishing companies most likely spend a lot of time and money as well as tap their other resources, such as their relevant networks that they've grown and nurtured for years and their large teams of professional researchers and journalists, in order to identify the stories that'd sell and the headlines that'd grab the attention of their target readers...

And, if they're the top selling offline niche magazines in your target countries, then they must be doing the right things, especially since they're still selling quite well even with thousands of competing online publications...

I like the idea Alex suggested of using game strategy guides as a giveaway. Another thing you could do is start a free games newsletter that you send out to the list regularly.

In the newsletter, you could do things like review new games that have come out online or for consoles, publish cheat codes, discuss new gaming accessories, look st the best new app based games etc.

Basically, you could write about anything that would be of interest to gamers. I think that would be a really good giveaway offer.

Then inside the newsletter, you could have affiliate links for the games you discuss, and maybe even sell advertising to other gaming sites that don't directly compete with you.

      Good luck!

      Dan

If you want to start building that list, make sure that it is visible to everyone when they land on your site. If you want to give away stuff to get leads, you have to realize that the type of people who will opt in for your freebie, don't usually like to 'buy'.

In turn, you can give away your value in the form of nuggets of useful info that can help your list.

Also, when you decide to give, do it from your heart.

I too like the idea of the "beta testers". Could work well. I'm going to use it.

Also consider, "Join My Cheat/News Newsletter & Share Your Best Cheats/News". Let your subscribers send you information which in turn you use to create your newsletter giving the subscriber credit for their "Cheat/News" submissions - gamers love name recognition and it makes your job of creating the newsletter easier and it builds a sense of community.

as long as you give value i think it is okay even if you gave away a free report that you have written (related to your niche) or just interesting newsletter type content.

Just get them to sign up for site updates and send them links to your new content. No need to create whole new content or free guides.

If you give valuable information on your site that people don't want to miss they'll hand over their email addresses willingly to get more.

If your head is swimming, take a time out.

Spend it digging around your site stats, looking for the content that is most popular already. Create/acquire a freebie related to that if you decide you need to offer one.

Also take a look at how much of your traffic is new and how much is returning visitors. If you already have a loyal audience, you may not need anything much beyond a subscribe form and an announcement on your site.
