Best Way To Manage Your Identity When Operating In Multiple IM Niches

I was wondering what the best way is to manage your identity if you are operating in multiple IM niches.

I will be launching 2 new projects very soon away from the "Make money online" niche, which I've been doing for a while, and don't want to put myself out as the face of all 3.

The ultimate plan with these 2 new niches is to eventually position myself and my website contents as a credible authority site. If I can help it, I'd rather not position these sites as being operated by faceless people, because I believe there is value in building a personal relationship with your audience.

So my question is whether it is advisable to use assumed names and whether there are any potential risks up front with your audience. Especially as engaging via social media is a huge part of my growth plan.

    Interesting question.

And one I would like to hear others opinion on.

I know that some of the top level marketers that I follow use pseudonyms and that they highly advocate using them for the very reasons you state.

I presume you would have to keep up the pretend the whole time though.

Yes, I've heard whispers of some top level marketers using assumed names in some of their ventures. I was just wondering if it an acceptable and understandable practice, rather than one that is done hush hush and very quietly.

If you are seeking to build authority, the secret is one niche, one name.

The exception to that seems to be if you have two niches, one professional and one hobby or other pastime. You see it more and more with indie fiction authors. They'll use their name for their fiction and for a site on how to write, for example.

Another approach to give some degree of separation would be to use different variants of your name. One niche is John Doe, one is John Q. Doe and a third is J. Q. Doe.

I can see how using different variants of a name can work.

With regards to using pen names, it is a common practice that is well known, but one that is almost entirely used by authors, as far as I'm aware. The link to the wikipedia list above proves this as well.

If anyone has got examples of assumed names being used in non-literary, screen writing, publishing circles.., I'd love to hear it.
