How does a newbie make/sell an IM infoproduct?

Hello,

I've been researching and doing my homework on the IM world for about 6 months now, making sure I'm totally prepared, and I've finally started taking action.

I decided that the number one thing I found most appealing to me was product creation, and to build a list through that.

For my niche, I took the advice that most people give: pick something with a good market and that your passionate about.

As a result of several months of totally immersing myself into IM and turning it into my obsession, the only niche I can imagine getting into is Internet Marketing.

Problem is, how am I supposed to create an infoproduct about making money online if I've never made money online? I know a LOT about IM, I've spent hundreds of hours researching and studying it, but I don't have any "evidence" to back myself up with. I'm confident that I could make a product that would be very helpful, but who would buy it from someone who has no experience? I'm not looking for a thousand-dollar WSO launch, just enough to "make my money back" and give me the motivation to press on.

I actually just got done finishing off a guide that I was planning on releasing as a WSO after spending hours and hours researching and writing to make it as simple and step-by-step as possible. But I'm having second thoughts.

Although in the guide I wrote there is nothing "new," the "old" information inside has been completely proven to be successful, and I've spent my time ensuring that I've made it as step-by-step and indepth as possible.

I started working on my sales page earlier today when I had a complete breakdown that lasted for a few hours.

To restate my question, "How does a newbie make an IM infoproduct?" Or, I guess a better one would be, "How does a newbie SELL an IM infoproduct?"

Thanks in advance.

This is very simple to solve:

Find a way to make money, document it and voila you have your product.

Now, you might be interested in how to make money. Very simple. Buy a product that shows how to make money and then simply do what it says.

You can then contact the product creator and work together with him or her and together launch that product as a case study for the original product.

Not every IM product has to be something about a money making method.

There are SO many products that you could develop that don't specifically have anything to do with 'how to make money'...

You mentioned that you were planning on re-hashing a make money method (with some of your own spin of course) that you say is something 'real' and 'proven'.

I would highly advise against that until you have some of your own actual experience to throw into your product rather than just your research.

Pick something else for now that could really benefit people. Anything you can think up (or research) that will save time and effort is a sure fire winner for people who are in the specific segment of MMO that you are planning on concentrating on.

Why an info. product? Why not promote what every marketer needs: Domain names, web hosting, WP themes, Advertising, etc.

Let me give you a secret... Almost all product creators AIN'T MAKING MONEY!

Also, at the end of the day, you are selling an information product. As long as you do your research, compile it all up and lay it out in a step by step format where it is easy to follow. You can sell it and become an authority.

In fact, lots of "gurus" now started out just punching out products after products. If you are not confidence with your content, just give it away as a FREE WSO. You won't make money from it obviously, but you will build a list and maybe get some feedback

Couple of things. 1. Study what sells right here. Im is trend driven. Make sure you're selling what's hot. 2. Figure out an easy way to make some money. Doesn't have to be a full time income. There was a product that sold a few months ago that showed folks how to make $10 to $15 per day. Just that. It sold 1k + copies.

I think if you want to start making money soon, become an affiliate. Start up a blog, start getting subscribers and start building your list. Meanwhile, work on a QUALITY product that provided VALUE above and beyond what was expected by your customers. And it doesn't have to be about making money.

It can be about starting a blog, getting people to sign up for your list (offer them a tempting freebie if they sign up), or even how to become an affiliate and be successful at it.

    Good luck!

Making a product takes a lot of work and should be credible for people to trust you then buy your products.

Why not leverage a proven product as an affiliate?

You need to learn the business, so probably its best to start selling somebody else's product before you get into making your own.

Long-term you will make more money selling your own products. But it's important to know the ropes.

So, take out the difficult bit – creating the product – and get used to marketing a product, creating content, setting up a sales funnel, and that's quite enough you to be doing fine now.

Once you got all that sussed, then it's a better time to think about creating a product – which I highly recommend.

    I agree with Malc

Get your blog or whatever live and get your sales funnel in place and start building your list and promoting affiliate products.......

I bet if you do this first, by the time you do create your own product your methods would be slightly different from what you're thinking right now because you will have walked the walk and know what works and what doesn't.

Plus, you would be more qualified to create a product about making money online if you have actually made money online.

Not all products for the IM niche need to be about making money.

    Say what?

Yeah, I actually mean it. Not all products for the IM niche (market is probably a more accurate description) need to be about making money.

Let's look at a fairly straight forward business model. Azon marketing. The general gist of it is that you:

    • Pick a niche
    • Get a domain
    • Set up a website
    • Set up a squeeze page (gotta build that list ya know)
    • Put some content on your website
    • Start making some sales

More than likely I've left out a few things.

The entire process involves a lot more than just sitting back watching commissions roll in. Obviously one product idea here would be a course going through the entire model of successfully setting up an Azon site. As you say that would work best if you have actually managed to set up at least one successful Azon site yourself.

What if you haven't? What if, no matter what business model I outline, you haven't made any money with any of them?

The obvious conclusion is that well, then you can't really create a product for the IM crowd. Right?

    Wrong!

Any busines model involve a number of steps. While you may not have had much luck with the entirety of the model there may be bits and pieces here and there that you are very good at. Maybe you've managed to (re: the Azon example) set up a squeeze page that draw in list members like horsepooh draws in flies on a hot summer day. Maybe you do that very well, but just haven't really managed to make the entire model work just yet.

That's a potential product right there. There will be marketers out there who would be more than happy to learn how to do that. In fact, it may be the one piece of the puzzle they are missing.

My point is. There is always something you know how to do really well, even if you haven't put everything together just right. And there is always something you can create a great product about that doesn't necessarily directly involve watching the money roll in.

Having said that, proof of avalanche style commissions might be beneficial in the promotion of your product.

You would ideally create a product on something you knew about and can back up.

Making a 'make money online' product that has no proof and fake income claims could land you in a lot of trouble.

If you have the solution to a problem it's not hard to write that solution into a Word document and convert to a PDF file - and there you have it you've got an info product.

I totally made a huge mistake on my first post cause I didnt want to give away to much about my product.

To clarify: my product is about effectively getting free highly-targeted traffic. Ive tested out most of whats in it in the past (but i never 'monetized' it) and I have plenty of evidence to back up the rest.

Amazing answers from everybody, a lot of "big names" in here thatve inspired my IM 'career' so far, but regardless everyone in this thread gets my personal thanks.

      Don't.

That would be my advice. There are just too many "newbies" creating IM info products that simply aren't any good. When you release a product, you're tying your reputation to it. If the product is bad, you get a reputation for releasing bad products.

Here's what I would suggest instead:

      1. Create an info product about something else. Pick something you actually have experience with. IM isn't the only niche out there, there are millions of them. Do you know Photoshop well enough to make tutorials? Are you great at a certain video game? Can you play music or draw/paint?

Think about what you A) Like to do and B) Are good at. Then build a product that teaches it by sharing your own personal knowledge and experience.

      2. Find someone who is a veritable expert in some aspect of IM. Pick someone who has a lot of experience, knowledge, and success. Do a 50/50 JV with them. Write down a list of questions, schedule an interview time, and record it.

Use the recording to create books, audio recordings, and videos. Now you have an awesome info product for the IM niche. This is a tested and proven strategy.

It's nothing personal but I am getting sick of seeing info products released by people who just found out about IM. It's an autophagic loop where they buy a lot of info products, don't act on them, and then create info products to sell to other newbies.

I'm also getting sick of products that suggest doing this. Their "Amazing System" consists of pretending to have years of experience and success by faking it or copying an existing info product and then pretending to be a "guru".

You should release something real, something legitimate, something you can be proud of. Every other step in the process will be easier and more successful when you actually believe in the product.

That's my two cents, at least.

    Hi,

Creating products need not be all that difficult.

The one problem people have is that they don't write down what they
are going to be teaching in a step by step fashion before they go out
    and create that product.

Once you sit down and think about what you know and how to share your
knowledge that is understandable and easy to digest then you can create
a great product that delivers and gives someone EXACTLY what they need.

Don't just create a product for creating sakes.

    Plan first!!!

But don't allow yourself to go months trying to creating the perfect product
before you decide to launch it either.

As soon as you know what you plan to teach then you'll be able to create
your product in just days or weeks depending on what it is about of course.

    DON'T OVER THINK THIS!

And of course look at something you could create and have experience
in that doesn't necessarily have to be in the make money online niche.

Try to break things down and pick out those sub-topics that other will
    find useful also.

    All the best
    Gavin
