E-mail Marketing Help - Scraping or buying a list?

Hey guys!

I need some advice. I have a fitness website that I want to attract a lot of traffic to. The ideal target market is anyone who wants to lose weight, but how can I get data (e-mails, specifically) for people wanting to lose weight? I wouldn't mind hiring an e-lance programmer to do a web scrape for me to get emails so I can begin an e-mail campaign, but where would the e-lance guy look to find this kind of data? I mean, there isn't a database anywhere where people who want to lose weight give their e-mails, right? Has anyone here in the fitness niche done anything like this?

I know most of you will probably say that I need to build an organic list, and I am trying to do that, but for now, I would like to buy a list and start a campaign because my site is very new and I want to get traffic quick. Please let me know if you know anywhere where I can find a cheap, accurate list.

Thanks,

- Newbie

Not a good idea to ask for or supply info regarding buying or scraping email addresses.
Mods have been known to ban members who do...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

What I am doing is solo ads. You pay someone who already has a list to send their email list an email about your site. They usually guarantee a certain amount of clicks to your website. I bought 100 clicks, and got about 30 subscribers. And got 10 from Facebook ads which hasn't really been working for me. It may vary depending on how your website looks, ect. safe-swaps.com is a good place to do this.

Posts about scraping emails with outsourced software and spamming weight loss offers definitely won't be tolerated here by the mods.

If you are serious about building a long term business in the weight loss niche, why not start your own list?

'Buying' one seems like a pretty horrible idea all the way around...

Instead of trying to buy a list, spend the money on traffic to a squeeze page with a great front end offer. This has the added benefit of getting people who opt in to get to know you a little bit if you talk about yourself and your mission inside the giveaway, on the thank you page, or in your autoresponder series.

You can use Solos, or Facebook traffic - either of those will work and both are fast to produce results.

  • Sorry guys, I didn't mean to post anything that the mods wouldn't like... I've heard scraping emails is not a bad idea, but then again I don't really know..

Either way, you guys made some solid points. Can I ask for more info on solo ads or facebook traffic? When I go to my FB page now there is the option to promote page, but I don't know how much I want to spend. I was considering doing $10 a day for 10 days, or should I do $20 a day for 5 days... same amount of money spent but different durations.

I have a really solid website that has excellent information and content for those in my niche, I'm just struggling with traffic. I am not afraid to pay for targeted traffic... please let me know the best approach, and be specific, i'm a newbie...

    Thanks!!

From my experienced Solo Ads have worked better for me. You can test it. You can buy as little as 100 clicks. And see how it works out for you. Just go to safe-swaps.com

Facebook ads have been a fail for me, I'm paying like .85 per click, when solo ads are only about $.35 per click.

    Good luck.

    You've got this all wrong.

Firstly "anyone who wants to lose weight" is NOT a niche market. You need to be more specific.

When you try and cater to everyone and anyone you end up catering to no one as your advice is too vague and doesn't really relate to any specific persons problems.

Niche down and REALLY focus on one very specific type of person, i.e. weight loss for post pregnancy women or men over 50 with heart problems.

For building an email list you do that by attracting visitors to your site through quality content (and getting that content in from of your target audience / influential people) then ASKING them to sign up to your list. Not by scraping or buying lists.

If you scrape emails then email these people that's straight up spam.

I know this isn't what you WANT to hear but it's what you NEED to hear. Trying to take shortcuts and do things the quick way doesn't work out in the long run. Do it properly first time and it will be a long lasting thing.

Do you honestly think spamming strangers is going to get these people wanting to visit your site on a regular basis?

I think it's part of the more general "how do I cheat" virus that seems to be going around...

newbiemarketingguy, the problem isn't with scraping the emails. It's finding a legitimate use for them. The one you propose is not such a use.

What's the use in scraping someone's email? They're not going to be interested in any product email you send, whether informational, promotional or solo ad. These 'leads' don't really belong to you. So, what you'll want to do is get your own leads via Facebook, blog, etc. The leads you generate on your own will be presold on the idea of hearing what you have to say, rather than forced to endure yet another spam email in the inbox.

Try buying Solo Ads, the response rate is greater. If you scrape emails your IP
would probable get banned by the Email giants Yahoo, Google, Hotmail etc
