I am just scraping the surface and too many questions to ask...

OK, first thing, this site is GREAT! I have found my self here everyday since I found it. So MUCH information. I wish I could just pour it into my head.

Now, I am very new to the idea of making money online. I always new people did it. But never really knew how. Last summer I got the idea to "make a website" not necessarily to make money just out of the interest I had in learning how.

So I have bought several domains that I don't think can really be used for IM. Obviously I didn't have a product or something to market in mind. But this is where my first question comes in.

1.) If I put up a page to practice making a site, test different styles and google "deranks" me because it is really just a test site. would that domain forever be burned or bad in the eyes of google?

2.) Do you need a business to do this? DO I need to get a LLC or something or just start? (I know you're not lawyers, but I don;t want to waste money in things I don;t have to yet.)

3.)If you are into writing copy, or articles for hire do you use your real name or a "writer" name?

OK, sorry for the wall of text. But these will do for now. I am sure I will have more soon. But figured I'd stop lurking and post these.

Thanks

Hi, taking action is what counts and you have done so well done for that!

    1. Ok, to me the easiest way to build a website is with Wordpress. You can just mess around with different templates for the site and learn at the same time. If you are wanting to use all your domains then I would get a cheap hosting package. There are many out there but I really like bluehost.com and have never had a problem with them, plus when things have gone wrong lol they are on hand for online live assistance. You would need to link in your domain names to your hosting account. A Cpanel inside your hosting would be best and then you would just install Wordpress onto your domain.

You can mess about with your site as much as you like and google will not black list your domain. You will only really get black listed if you are doing any black hat seo methods, which you will not be so do not worry.

    2. You don't need to register a business if all you are doing is creating your own site/blog for personal use. If however you were to trade from the site then yes this would be a business and would need to be registered.

    3. I don't fully understand here what you are asking? But if you are asking that you are going to write articles etc yourself or having an outsourcer do them then you can technically use any name you wish, make sure that the outsourcer is fine that there name will not appear on there written article, it's not normally a problem! If a pen name is to be used then continue to use the same name consistently within the chosen niche that you enter.

I hope this all makes sense and has answered what you were asking.

      I really like bluehost.com .
      Don't use
      - Godaddy
      - Yahoo
      - 1&1
      - Dreamhost
      - the 50+ EIG brands, including Hostgator, Bluehost, Justhost, iPage, Fatcow, etc

Avoid "cheap" hosts, and instead look for a good host with a good reputation. There's many hosts that have low-cost options for $5 range. Even less expensive than so-called "cheap hosts" like Bluehost (EIG).

I highly suggest Stablehost or Arvixe for newbies.

Here is my advice to you since you are very new to this make money online thing.

One thing i see that you have a plans which having a blog or site as your journey to earning money online which in my opinion is a good start because i believe that many people who tends to get many information here but in the end they never took any actions.

    1) To answer your question 1, i would say, go ahead make a practice post but with other different domain names, it would be best to start with blogspot or something similar web 2.0 that offer free subdomains, just for testing purpose or gain some SEO experience, to me it is alright.

    2) There is no need to register a business just because you want to be a blogger or site owner at all if you are not planning too, unless you want.

    3) For me even if i hire a person to write an article, i put my name to it as a author unless it is a collaborated news blog or something similar.

My last advice to you is that try to take action as soon as possible and repeat it again and again until you succeed. It is good to learn one thing at a time and master it based from my personal experience as a website owner. good luck to you.

    Here's my advice to you:

    1) Since you already own several domains, go ahead and start a site with one of them. I use HostGator, and for a small amount of money per month, you can get the hosting package that allows you to have multiple domains. That way, when you are ready to have an internet marketing site, you can leave your "test" one up.. who knows, you may end up loving that site and being able to turn it into a source of money. You can set up a WordPress site through HostGator, and then you can practice on getting subscribers, building a list, writing up free (and eventually paid) products, generating traffic, writing articles, and guest posting.

    2) You don't need to register as a business. But be sure to keep meticulous records of ALL earnings you may make.

    3) I personally like to use my real name, that way people know I'm a real person. I sort of feel shady about using a pseudonym, and it would be hard to keep up with several other names/personas.

Thanks for the tips so far. I am in the phase of trying to figure out which direction to go.

But I don't want to get hung in the "planning phase" and never get off the ground.

Making a test site not a bad idea at all. I can't imagine it having any negative impact on your future success.

It's only a bad idea if, as you say, you'll never get off the ground.

    You don't need an LLC.

You can choose to use your real name or not. Totally up to you, best is your real name.

I wouldn't be so concerned with what Google thinks or does. If you depend on Google for anything, the chances are good you will be disappointed. There are many other traffic sources that you can control.
