Any recommendations on my situation

Hey fellow warriors, I am finally back from my hiatus. I had to leave IM alone in september to get a 9-5 because I was needing the money. But I am a little bit more stable now so I want to get back in the game. I kind of fill like a newbie again lol for some reason lol. But I wanted to get a good mentor or coach this time around. I think I would have done much better the first time around with one. So I wanted to ask my fellow warriors for reccomendations. I know I could just search and I did but all the threads that came up where old. Im just looking for the right direction that is why Im asking for this advice.

Thank you for any advice or reccomendations

Here's my first question - how much money are you willing to spend on coaching.

    You don't need a coach.

Keep your job, and do IM part time. Pick ONE approach and stick with it. People hop from shiny object to shiny object, and consequently never develop expertise at anything.

Research methods through this forum and pick one.

What did you try last time? What did you learn? What would you do differently?

What are you thinking about doing this time around?

      1. Get grounded.
      2. Try to understand what led to your successes and especially your failures last time around.
      3. Find that something here that resonates with your successes.
      4. Create a plan that leverages what you learned in 3.
      5. Take that plan to a coach. He or she will help you stay focused, will help you work your plan and realize your goals.

Think of it this way - You don't now anything about baseball, but you do know that baseball players make a lot of money. You show up at the New York Yankees training camp and announce "Hey Coach! I'm here! Show me how to play baseball 'cause I wanna bank some serious cash!" No matter how excited or how motivated you are, you are uncoachable. You don't have any of the foundational skills that a coach can build on to make you a better baseball player.

Make your coaches job way easier by letting him or her know where you're at. What you've done and what you can do. Past failures or successes are just stepping stones and building blocks for the next round.

Finding a coach or mentor is the one and only real shortcut out there.

      First steps:
      1. Decide how much you can invest in a coaching program
      2. Seek out a coach (search, post, whatever)
      3. Ask for a few minutes of their time and see if you are on the same page.
      4. Ask if you can contact some of their past and present students.

If they won't talk to you, move on. If they can't or won't let you talk to their students, move on.

      Good luck!

    You don't need a coach.

You need to learn how to do things yourself.

Hi mate – I get where you are coming from!

So stick with a day job, and just do IM part time.

I've got a ton of members at HeyMalc who are in a similar situation and most of them have yet to make any decent money online. And many of them have been at it for years.

What I tell them to do is to find a money making system which is proven and which they can apply. There are a few the I've checked out which are recommend including Rob Cornish's Gain Higher Ground, and the Chris Farrell membership.

These money making systems are run by decent people and have good support through a forum. So if you get stuck, you can go and ask questions. The main thing is not to sign up to guru promotions where you get buried in the email was just waste your time.

I recommend you consider signing up to a decent money making system with a modest monthly fee so that the vendor or can afford to run a forum to support you. I hope this might help. Good luck!

Learn a real skill like website design, SEO or any other number of real skills. Then learn how to market them well online or offline. Then shoot for the stars....

I see this suggestion all the time, and to be honest I don't get it. Real skills like website design or SEO. The website design I can go along with to a certain extent. I personally sold and built 400 of them last year. SEO on the other hand.. have you ever sold it? It is hands down one of the hardest sales to make. I only sold 18 last year to give you an idea.

The #1 biggest issue with this idea is scalability. Yes anyone can build a site. you can scale up and outsource that aspect. But can just anyone build and design a site that is truly going to work for the client? Website design is a skill. And If "I" have that skill how much can I really scale it? There are only so many hours in a day.

Look across this forum alone and see all the requests for a landing / squeeze page builder. Its just a page. But to build and design one that works/converts is another story. It takes SKILL to do this. This is not a task you can send off to fiverr. This is a task you put in the hands of an experienced professional. And I am sure many can attest for, you can pay out the nose for this stuff.

Believe me, I'm not taking this stance because I feel that people are crowding my profit potential. A bunch of people that do not know what they are doing only helps me. I'm simply stating that of all the possibilities online this ONE in particular is probably the hardest nut to crack.

Yeah I agree that SEO is a hard l to sell. However, I have done quite well with it. However, after a while I quickly realized that I needed to learn website design as well.

My point is basically that in order to succeed online you really need a skill. Sure people make money with affiliate marketing and through various other methods...but hands down learning a valuable skill and then creating your own products or services off of that skill is the way to make money online now days.

Jumping from one WSO to another WSO will never get you anywhere. You got to stick with something that's real and solid. The more real skills you have the easier it is to really make a good living online.

Being in your situation about 10 years ago, I started to do something small: tried to promote some obscure affiliate program (I selected "dog posters" niche as I can remember)

As I started to do some real work on a "real" project real problems arise: how to build a site, how to promote it. I started to advertise on Google AdWords, which got new questions: how to find keywords, how to organize campagn.

One lead to another, therefore I created keyword research tool and it was so good (I developed it for myself, not for money) that I started to sell it. And it was a beginning of my long career as marketing software developer.

So my advice will be: start something small, but do real job. Not planning, not education, not reading forums. Try to earn small money and solve problems/seek answers as you need them, not in advance.

The only advice I can give to you and to my former self: try to choose the most hard solutions - it will give real competitive advantage. You will get todo list soon, sort it not by priority or interest or perspective income, but by how hard and how lazy are you on doing these tasks.

If you will do the most hard tasks at the first place, you will become the one who gives answers, not who seeks them.

            Good luck!

I somewhat disagree with others. A coach can be VERY valuable if you had the money to spend. It takes some time to find a good, legit IM coach though.

If you have some money to burn, I'd to paid advertising. I'm currently making quite a bit with teespring.com.

Maybe try some CPA offers via PPV

Most importantly, stick to something you know others are making money off. The worst thing to do is jump around from idea to idea, plan to plan, strategy to strategy. See things through and at the very least you'll learn a lot.

You don't really need a coach like most everyone said. I believe a coach is a valuable investment once you have something going on and you want to take it to the next level.

Right now you need to figure out what you can see yourself doing for at least the next 6 months and jump right into the water. If you run into any obstacles you should be able to find the answer to any questions you may have on this forum.

I can't understand why some people are dissuading the OP from getting a coach if s/he clearly asked for one.

I wholeheartedly agree with getting oneself a good coach so you can quit wasting time "reading everything there is for free on the internet."

Sure, you can find everything for free. But a good coach will:

    -Cut through the chase
    -Focus on the important points
    -Show you what to do
-Hold your hand until you get it
-Encourage you when you don't believe in yourself
    -And the list goes on.

How much do you have in your budget to spend on a coach?
And also, do you have a particular business model in mind, or do you want the coach to guide you?

I don't know all the coaches out there and how reliable/effective/affordable they are, but I can tell you of the one coaching program that I joined which I HIGHLY recommend.

I don't know if she's currently accepting new people into the program - possibly, but I don't know.

If you're interested in finding out, let me know. I can either inquire for you, or send you to her directly.

Either way, good luck! Getting yourself a good coach is the best thing you can do for yourself.

I recommended "The Education of Millionaires" because its like having a coach telling you where to go to learn the various aspects of starting a business. Coaches dont have to be someone right there in person. You can read a book and be coached just as good - and for a lot less money...

Getting a coach "in person" is great but I think the ONLY reason you need someone in person is to have someone kicking yo up the butt to actually do something. A book doesnt hassle you to do the work.

So if you need a kick up the butt then get a coach. If all you need is direction then read a book :0)

That may be true for someone who is motivated and resourceful.

A book won't help you when you run into snags (and that always happens).

A book won't help you make decisions.

A book won't help you figure out in which direction to take your business, based on your particular strengths.

A book won't encourage you to come out of your comfort zone.

I have never read the book, and by all means, it may be a good one and let the OP purchase it.

But no one should fool themselves into thinking it will replace a real-live coach.

(Actually, it can replace some of the coaching programs out there where you have to follow what the coach shows/says/teaches, but the coach is not there on hand, in person, to do all the stuff I mentioned above. So yes, maybe in that case, a book and a coaching program might serve the same purpose.)

If you can't afford a decent coach, which I'm guessing you can't if you are only just getting back on your feet with a full time job, then a decent coaching / monthly membership site may well suit you.

Either way, do your research, pick one method of earning money to begin with, grab a proven plan to follow and stick to it for a prolonged period of time and study your results.

You may well feel you don't need a coach after doing the above.....

You need both actually. You need to go it on your own for a while to establish niche and direction. Once you get a little traction, you can look around for a coach.
