How I use Press Releases

I dont often share information like this but I thought I would today :-)

OK, I started 2 news sites in 2 totally different niches and i have been uploading press releases from a selection of companies within the industry. Well the sites are getting a tonne of traffic and growing very well....

I dont have to spend hours and hours of time writing content because the companies write them for me and email them to me...

What I do is I email the companies I want to get news from and get them to add me to their press mailing list. Some sites have a whole press center that you can register with...

When they launch news they will email it to you and if you are quick you can get it uploaded and pinged before anybody else and it becomes your content...

A lot of the companies I deal with are massive and are very slow at actually uploading their own press releases to their sites which makes things a lot easier for us the marketers :-)

Some press centers will send you videos and I also upload them and link back to the article and what not :-) Seriously this is epic!!

It wont work for every niche but the 2 niches I have selected it is working great :-)

Also, I do actually write content for the site to add my own personal touch to the site but I am not doing any link building or anything other than adding content a few times a week :-)

That should help you get those cogs moving :-)

Good Luck

Danny

PS I have re posted this as I think the mods thought it was a product or something.... nothing to sell here. :-)

The trick is to act fast and even better if you can talk directly to the company :-)

I always email a link to their press release back to them :-) A lot of the time the companies retweet and share my press releases :-)

Great idea. Are you monetizing with Adsense or...?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[8943145].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Danny Cutts
No I dont monetize with adsense...

One of the sites is a spin off on another site I own and I sell ad space directly to the companies and they get to submit the releases to me :-)

I actually charge more now for advertising because of the extra value and extra traffic I am sending to them :-)

The other site doesn't have any money making monetization strategies on it as I am planning on hitting the companies direct once we have a much bigger following :-) This site is in a very competitive niche but we are making headway and its growing...

If you are late getting the press release out just rewrite and put your own spin on it :-) Its like a constant stream of good quality PLR :-)

This is, after all, what press releases were originally intended for--they provide information and a "story" to the news media, which can use it verbatim, use parts of it, or rewrite it completely.

    Danny,

Without sharing your niches, what characteristics should a niche have or not have to make it a successful candidate for this method.

    Thanks for the post,

Hmmmm Now that is a tough question....

One of my niches is very broad but has a big following but there is only a selection of companies within it that we are targeting...

Also you want to look for companies that are always releasing new products or services... and not necessarily one product... The health niche is a niche I would not target...

But say a Motorcycle manufacturerers would be a good niche to look at....

You need to see how often companies release press releases and if they are doing a couple a week and you think they would interest your readers then you are probably onto a winner....

Care to share some examples of the sites you are talking about? I must be missing something(shocker!).

Today I was emailed 5 press releases...

I was the first to get them published and they have since been tweeted and shared across social media....

    Danny-
Interesting info. Now you say not a health-niche and why is that?
I'm an expert at a health-niche that's in demand and valuable.

I say no to the health niche because the companies that seem to release more press releases seem to be companies with multiple products within that niche...

With multiple products becomes multiple chances of press releases each and every week...

A lot of the health stuff are one hit wonder products....

I understand. What if someone did their diligent market research for in demand products that customers need in a health-related niche? Also is your niche website a local or nationwide site?

I can see it not working but I would assume it would harder to get a steady flow of releases....

One of the sites is targetted to the UK but we have followers from all over the world the other site is worldwide and is doing very well.

We are also launching another site in a few weeks time :-) Using the same principle!

If you want to take this further then build it as a brand and talk directly to the companies. I am having a day out tomorrow doing something that most people can only dream of doing.... All because I had the balls to get up and get on the phone and talk to people.

You need to look at the Whats in it for them :-) They will snap your hand off :-)

I think you get my point now :-)

Its been a while now since I posted and thought I would update you....

So one of the sites that I have been doing this method is now receiving over 6,000 visits a month... couple this with a bit of facebook and twitter marketing its set to be a great site... expecting it to grow over 10,000 a month by the end of the year easily :-)
