Micro Niche Sites - Still Profitable?

I have a blog that is growing in traffic and size daily, it's about a specific animal that people keep as pets. I wrote 10-15 articles initially and update it every now and then. The site was created as a hobby more than anything but I quickly found others were using my information for their pets as well.

With 10k-15k unique visitors per month what kind of Adsense revenue could I expect if I was to add some ads on the sidebar?

At this rate I am expecting double the traffic over the coming months. I am also about to sponsor a pet-specific website.

It all depends. You can't base Adsense revenue based on website traffic (as we would all like to do). Test and see. That's your ultimate answer.

I wouldn't choose AdSense as my monetization method... There are many other more profitable monetization methods (like affiliate programs) which could be better options for a website with 10k-15k unique visitors per month... just my opinion...

      Totally agree.

NEVER have AdSense as your only monetisation model.

    Have you done any linkbuilding/seo?

Geez.. if your getting that kind of traffic, you obviously know a lot about this specific animal, why not write an eBook centering around "How to care for..." -or- "How to breed ______ in Captivity" or something like that and offer it up for $17, $27, or even $39?

Then, sprinkle a few more affiliate product links inside the eBook that are directly related to your expert advice, and make back-end sales through your book via recommended products, which will earn you commissions.

Lastly, if that starts to generate some cash flow, then pay ClickBank $50 and recruit others who will glady market your eBook (*and internal links) to their audience for 50% - 75% of the cover price.

    Win/Win/Win

Have you considered creating a Facebook fanpage related to this animal? As you seem an expert in this micro niche you could make a killing.

Add some videos if you haven't already. Pet videos rank very well. And agree with the other posters that you should make your own products in this niche.

What's the average a person can make a month if they set up a mini niche site and sell products including their own and affiliate?
I'm an expert in a health-related niche and thinking of doing the same thing. Can he make more if he set up a membership site?
May I ask what methods did you use to bring traffic?

Obviously you've come somewhat of an authority in your niche. Use that to your advantage.
I echo previous opinions that adsense may not be the best option. I would monetize as follows:
    * affiliate products (starting with ones you've used and can recommend)
    * product creation - ebook, video series, utilizing your expertise
    * possible cpa offers (willing to bet there are some for pet foods and products) to round things out

And keep focusing on the article writing. That's what has gotten your traffic to where it is. If you neglect that and strictly focus on monetizing, you'll lose momentum.

Oh and by all means put an opt-in form in there for a free newsletter. Then you start building a list which gets your newsletter say once a month. And then you can market to them more directly.

I would consider my website an authority website for this specific animal but still consider it micro in size personally.

The animal is not the typical family pet, so no toys, food, etc. I can say it's a type of reptile that is commonly kept however. I don't want to share to much yet until I can monetize this site.

I forgot to mention I am building a list, there is an opt-in form but I have not sent out any newsletters yet. I just added the opt-in form a few weeks ago and only have about 100 subscribers so far.

TBH I got lucky with this site, most of my sites do not get nearly this much traffic and I have no clue why I did exactly to rank it. I never built any links, never did anything but basic on-page SEO, it's just a ton of content and images.

Start writing your Newsletter. I started mine when I had 3 (yes, three!) subscribers. They are expecting something from you. Remember, they shared something valueable with you: their email address.
Also writing the Newsletter Trains you in creating Content. Because when you create your own product as suggested before, you Need lots of good Content.

You could integrate a quick Survey into your Newsletter subscription process. Something along the lines of: "Get our most burning question about your Pet answered in my Newsletter - Subscriber here". And then you offer not only one field for the email, but also an additonal field for the question. This way you get subscribers and ideas for Content.

Regarding monetization I would prefer Amazon. I am pretty sure that you find a few articles there that an Enthusiast for this Special pet Needs. Any sales on Amazon (that are related to the pet) also give you an idea what is neededin the market and you can write about.

You could also hide your best Content behind a Firewall and create a membership site, so yo not only get a onetime payment, but earn residual income as Long as the members stay.

Good luck and Keep us posted on your Progress.

While my content is great and informative I don't know if the paywall solution would work here because they could find the information elsewhere. I basically created a definitive source of information from across multiple areas.

No Problem - then create a product and the Newsletter. Don't tell anyone that they could find the Information elsewhere
Remember that humans are lazy and want to have Solutions.
When you offer an ebook/guide you help them and solve (hopefully) their Problem.
Don't put all the Content on the site. Use the site as a teaser subscribing to the Newsletter and buying the book you promote in it (and on the site).

    Hi,

what seo method is best for adsense niche site's?

@zamzung; yes I think affiliate products will be better they pay higher commissions as adsense or azon...

but with that you must build a list, without a list you will not make affiliate product sales (please correct me if I be wrong)?

    best wishes
