How often do you email your list?

For those who are building their network market marketing downline through their email list, how many times a week do you email your list? I like to send out at least 1 email 6 or 7 days a week. Let me know what works for you.

    3 or 4 seems to be a happy medium for me. But I have lists that I email even less. There's a couple I will only email 1 a week.

    I've found the open rates are higher on the lists now I email less.

    I like to send my emails every day.

    I know of many leaders who are doing really well and get daily signups that send an email a day. Sometimes they even send TWICE. I know because I am on their lists seeing what they are doing.

      I don't do network marketing, but I can tell you how I feel as an email subscriber...

      If I get an email everyday, or worse yet more than 1 a day I instantly unsubscribe. As a sender/marketer, I never send more than 2 a week for that reason...

        I'm in the same boat. I don't have a list, but do subscribe to stuff. If I'm getting emailed much more than twice a week, I'm unsubscribing. I've signed up for a few lists from members here and unsubscribed after a few weeks because I was tired of seeing constant messages from them in my inbox.

        I simply don't have the time or patience to go through an IMer's email every day.

        Please, don't overdo it with the emails. More isn't necessarily better.

        Amazon sends me anywhere from two to eight emails a day, yet I allow it. Why? Because they are usually relevant.

        Don't assume your market feels the same way you do. Test, and then test some more.

    If you're building a network marketing downline, it's purely a numbers game and daily emails are the norm.
    If you're talking about someone who has subscribed to your list by opting in for a free product, then that frequency should be reduced. In this latter case its more about building a relationship and fostering engagement than pushing sales.

      Funny you ask that...

      I recently subscribed to someones list here on the forum - looked like a really cool freebie.

      So far today, I have gotten 3 pitch emails all sent before 9am, all from the same person

      I will probably unsubscribe and perhaps re-subscribe under a throw-away/promotional only email address but...

      My understanding is they are making pretty good money.

    you can mail a promotion mutliple times a day. resend to unopens with a different subject line. monitor the unsub and if its all good resend to unopens again. should space it out a few hours.

      Several times a day??? That's the fastest way to get me to unsubscribe to an email list. And if it's from the same person, but with a different subject line, it's going straight to my SPAM folder.

        theres always going to be unsubscribes. as long as you maintain the unsubscribe rate and manage to get high enough earnings per click, you will be making money.

        to earn per click, you need to mail out and accept you will have unsubscribes. its you job to determine how many unsubscribes you willing to get per earning.

          I'm only talking as a subscriber, not a marketer. I don't doubt that a lot of people will open multiple emails per day, and even take action and buy. Plenty of marketers do that and make a good living.

          Personally though, I think much more than 2 per week is overkill. Lists I subscribe to need to be more informative than selling me on a product or service. Otherwise I hit the unsubscribe button and add the sender to my SPAM list.

          Just my perspective as a subscriber.

        I think you've missed the point. The point is:

        You send 1 email. Wait a few hours/half a day. Then you create a segmented list of those that did not open the initial email. Then you send another email with a different subject line to try and get them to open again.

          Point not missed at all.

          There's probably a good reason I didn't open the original email. And sending another email, even with a different subject line, is just going to make me unsubscribe.

          Again, I'm only talking as a subscriber, not as a marketer. I understand wanting to get someone to open the email, but blasting emails to a subscribers inbox twice in one day will make a lot of people mad.

          More isn't necessarily better.

            What autoresponders allow you to do this feature, to separate and segment the subscribers who have not opened a particular email

      Some of the world's best marketers do market to their list even a few times per day to get the message across and don't forget that many of their new subscribers just came in at different times during the day so they feel that it is OK to send 2-3 times per day.

    Not calling anyone a liar but surely bombarding your list daily and as some of you say multiple times a day leads to a hefty unsub rate together with a lot of annoyed subscribers?
    I mean who on earth is happy to receive multiple emails from the same person day in and day out.
    How could you possibly be offering premium content on a daily basis, unless all your doing is blasting links to the latest WSO and hoping for the best...

    It's also pretty critical to know who your market is.
    Let's face it, those of us on this forum are (for the majority) in this industry. Which means, inevitably, we're on a lot of lists. Which also means, if we don't see something of particular value in the emails we get from a certain provider, there's a good chance we're going to unsubscribe if we get emailed too many times per week.

    But if your list is made up of prospects that are new to this, and that aren't on a ton of lists, then regular emails may not be such a bad thing.
    I'm on the mail list for a couple of online bike companies that I've bought stuff from before. And I get hit a few times a week. And you know what - I still open those. They're not pushy, and I'm interested in the subject.

    Guess it all comes down to knowing your target market and directing your campaign accordingly.

    It's my understanding that the only time emailing multiple times a day really works is if you're making your money through solo ad sales and ad swaps. I've noticed on here that most people who recommend mailing multiple times a day or recommend building a list through ad swaps and solo ads use this tactic.

    Granted, Ad swaps and solo ads can work for building a list, but at some point, your subscriber isn't getting any value from you if you mail them too often so how often you mail is dependent on your business goals. If you only want to sell solo ads to your list you can email them 5 or 6 times a day sometimes but you can't build a relationship using that much contact.

    I don't email anymore gave it up. I found building my list via SMS text messaging I am able to build a better relationship with people and don't need to have such a large list to become profitable.

    I think it depends if someone is sending me valuable information on a daily basis I am going to look forward to their emails

    If they are just trying to send me affiliate links for products on a daily basis I am going to unsubscribe very fast

    i think it depends on your niche and your content. If you send promo emails very oftehn, a lots of them will unsubscribe verry often.

    I think once a week is good enough to keep people interested. My strategy is to offer something exciting in every email and then keep them waiting untill my next email so they stay tuned with me.

    Your personal experience doesn't matter. It never has and it never will.

    Repeat with me: What matters is what my subscribers respond best to, not what I think.

    And the only way to know is to test.

    I personally have great success e-mailing every two days, but I haven't tried e-mailing daily or even more frequently and it's something I'm thinking about testing next.

      This is absolutely true! What good is it to have someone on your list who's not making you any money? I hit my lists every day. Sometimes multiple times a day, when there's something that they legitimately need to know about. If someone unsubs, big deal. They're doing me a favor, because they weren't going to make me money anyway. At the end of the day, it's about how much money the list generates. The only way to figure that out is to experiment with what you mail them and how frequently.

    It really depends on your reason for having a list and your ability to replace those who unsubscribe. Even if your emails are great, if you mail every day it's likely your unsub rate will be relatively high. I know that's true in the IM niche, anyway. Can't say for other niches.

    For some, it's really 100% about the money to be made and not at all about the relationship or longevity. Fair enough. As long as you can keep up with the turnover, more power to you. No one is forcing anyone to stay on your list, after all.

    If you are into relationship marketing, though, handling your members with kid gloves is usually the smarter play. I find that the only 'rule' to follow is a simple one:
    • Email when you have something important or useful to share and don't worry about sticking to a set schedule just for the sake of sending an email.

This is more in my comfort level, and if/when I start building a list, it will be a relationship-type email system.

        Exactly. Neither approach is better, necessarily. It just reflects different goals. Some are in it purely to maximize their list income. Some are in it to develop a long-term business relationship that's more interactive. Both can make you a nice income. I always kind of shrug when I see arguments break out over which is "better." It's all good!

          Agreed. This really has to do with the list itself. What do they expect? Why are thy on the list?

    Not the quantity but the quantity. I am on Ben Settle's list. He emails daily and I read them all.

    So many of the top email marketers advocate daily so when others say it is a not good idea to, then who should you listen to?

    I think it depends on your mail content/service to your recipients. If it is relative with your recipient closely, then you can send them one email every two or three days.

    I think it depends on what your offering. If its valuable 6 days will work. If the email content isn't all that great you showed lower it to 3 or 4.

    I only broadcast an email to my list when I have something to say. This may only be 3 to 5 time a month.

    I believe in using my autoresponder to automate my business. So, I create follow up messages for my lists and when the follow up messages are done, I move them to another list that has another series of follow up messages.

    So, I never have to worry when I send out a broadcast message to a list because it is not that often. I mostly promote my own products and the broadcasts are about things that are not previously planned in my follow up message which is usually an reciprical advertisement or ad swap.

    If you set up your follow up messages properly, you shouldn't have to worry about how often you send a broadcast to your lists.
