Any tips for a returning IMer?

So I joined years ago and eventually got into doing most of my IM focus on adsense revenue, and it went quite well for me.

Well, I've been out of the country(and with very limited internet access) since Fall of 2011 and just recently got back. To no surprise all my old sites and everything I had is pretty much gone, so I'm back to square one.

In reality I've been crawling the forums for the past bit in the freetime I've got, but I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed by the all the changes(it seems that even google's keyword tool is all different, etc) and just the idea of getting my head back on and find an idea to run with. I just can't get focused on one idea, I keep reconsidering and confusing myself and not actually going anywhere productive.

So I guess that what I'm asking for would be any tips that you could give to someone that's pretty much like an IM beginner, or maybe if you've got a helpful guide that you think might help. I'd really appreciate it!

Well Niche blogging, learn how to use WordPress and build up a blog in the Health area (or a high demand area people need assistance with), create a free report, sign up for an auto responder and give away a valuable report/product build a mailing list, put up some affiliate links. Depends on your aptitude and areas of interest-but niche based marketing is big. Sell on amazon, select a couple products, source cheaply (china, wholesale) sell on Amazon/Ebay. Create an information product ...Actually Bing marketing is not bad with the right products (as opposed to google ppc). Welcome back

What happened to your sites? I hope they are still there because you could build up on them.

Still, you need to come up with a new campaign. Don't stay around long enough, because you need to get down to work.

As MrFume said find a niche that matches your aptitude and interest. That should help you get the focus you need to follow through and rebuild. A lot may have changed but the basics remain - provide value by solving problems.

MrFume/fallison: So are you basically talking about finding a niche in which I can create reports/ebooks/etc to sell and build up a consumer base?

dee4d: I've got the site files, but the domains names and hosting had expired so all the SEO I did was lost.

Guess it all depends whether you want to get back into the whole adsense and niche site thing or try something else such as list building.

I took a break from IM and this forum for well over a year and I was amazed at the changes when I came back too

Why not focus on your career? I spent 2-3 years going crazy on IM and while I did OK, I really neglected my career.

First, remember that Google is not everything. Search engine traffic is not everything.

Secondly, start building a list as soon as possible.

Third, keep publishing highly informative articles.

    Well you're not new Stew.

    Hey that rhymes.

Anyway, if your sites got hit because of all the recent changes in Google, you can always transfer the content to new sites.

Then find the threads in WF that will show you how to get them in the game.

    And Google is NOT everything.

Don't try to please them because then they won't ever be pleased.
