New to affiliate marketing

Ive been loitering here in the background and reading all sorts on SEO for awhile now... I am a newbie and can see you guys can give people a good reality check at times so forgive me if this is too basic a question (though I have done a lot of looking around).

Ive decided on my niche (its a health niche which I can see is quite popular but I work in health and they say to do what you know)- in google keyword planner it had 40000 searches with low competition - good right? My issue is should I only rely on Keyword Planner (which I believe only does 'exact' matches) or is something like Market Samurai required (Pat Flynn used to promote this quite a lot)?

Secondly, the only products related to my niche are books - which are quite low in cost and hence going to be low commission. Is this reason to give a niche away? Do people generally only promote one product per website? The 'suggested bid' on Keyword Planner for CPC is $.92, so not sure what this means as far as possible future income.

Also, I am in Australia and one of my potential products is an Australian product (though would be relevant for other countries)... I don't think this should be a problem?

Anyway, Im sure I have a lot more questions but that's it for now...

Many thanks and any advice greatly appreciated!
