How to bring traffic to a new blog

Hey Guys,

I recently set up a blog on technology, web development and media in general.
Myself and a few of my close friends currently write for it.

In the first week it has gotten 450 views, it is hosted on my own domain and server.

What advice do you guys have on bringing in more traffic? I am open to paid methods as well.

Also although I did not create the blog for money, I would ideally like to pay my writers so as to encourage them - when is the appropriate time to monetise the blog?

Many Thanks,
IBMSolutions

Maybe you're going about it wrong. Instead of thinking about what other people can do for you, figure out how your blog can help other people. In other words, build your blog around existing pools of traffic instead of 'generating traffic to your blog.' This MIND SHIFT will pay off quite well. Build credibility with the COMMUNITIES that would be interested in what you have to offer. Don't just drop a link and leave. Build trust first then DRIP FEED your content to your consumers. Establish that trust first.

    KK, Thanks.
    Specifically what are you suggesting?

That I join and engage in/on other forums and blogs?

    K thanks.
Any expansion on what article syndication is?
By social bookmarking do you mean directories like stumble upon?

Would you advise for or against purchasing SEO blog related stuff on Fiverr?

The best thing you can do to build your blog audience is networking with others in your niche and engaging with your target audience in places they already are.

If you are depending on only search engines to get you traffic then it might take you some time to get good amount of traffic.

You can drive traffic to your blog by using techniques like blog commenting, sharing your content on social media sites, creating youtube videos, forum marketing, article marketing, press releases etc.

If you want to get visitors to your new blog, give your visitors a good reason to visit your blog. Provide valuable information. Help you visitors. If they are happy, they will come back for more.

Most successful blogs in this world build their reputation in this way. It takes time and dedication. Every blogger wants to get traffic. But traffic is not what actually matters. What actually matters and increases income is quality readership for a blog.

It is not bad to try to increase traffic to your blog. Promote your blog everywhere you can. But don't do it to increase traffic. Do it to get more quality readers who will be interested in the information or advice you provide through your blog.

Slowly you will become an authority in your field. This is important. Here is a blog post that talks about some powerful ways to promote your blog online and get some traffic. Hope, it should be helpful in your blogging journey.

Promote your blog actively and be patient. Provide helpful advice to your readers. Don't try to teach them. Just be their friend.
